Episode 62: In Other Words, Magical Creatures Are Special
And so, it was decided that tomorrow, everyone would get to taste-test cream puffs and mitarashi dango. I’d say it was quite a productive dinner.
After that, all that was left for me to do was take a bath and go to bed. When I returned to my room, I summoned everyone as usual.
“Please help us out if there’s a call for a bath, Aqua.”
“Leave it to me.”
“I’ll help out too, Darling.”
“Thanks. But I don’t think I’ll end up bathing with Mother today.”
“That’s what they call a flag.”
Tia just had to jinx it. She was grinning mischievously, clearly teasing me. There’s no way she actually thinks that’s going to happen.
As I used Moguran as a pillow and cuddled Lagios, a servant came in with an apologetic look.
“Your Highness, the Third Prince, I apologize for interrupting your rest. Her Majesty the Queen has requested your presence.”
“Got it. I’ll head over right away. Aqua, you’re coming with me. And just in case, Tia too.”
“Master, that sounds like you’re already certain about what’s going to happen.”
“No, it’s just a precaution.”
I made my excuse and left the room. But as Lagios predicted, I ended up taking a bath with my mother.
And this time, there were even more attendants joining us than yesterday.
I guess word must have gotten around. Mother probably couldn’t ignore the envious looks from the attendants. I mean, they always take good care of her. I get it, but they clearly didn’t consider how I’d feel being surrounded by all these beautiful women.
“I’m exhausted…”
I collapsed face-first onto my bed when I returned to my room. A refreshing, cool breeze blew over me—Tia’s Wind Magic.
“Isn’t a bath supposed to be a place to relieve fatigue?”
“I believe that’s usually the case.”
Tia and Aqua tilted their heads in confusion. They wouldn’t understand—the complicated issues that come with being a boy. If only I were a normal kid… but inside, I’m an adult. It’s tough.
Not only did I have to fill the bath with hot spring water, but I also ended up drying everyone’s hair afterward. I might need to give Tia a reward or something.
“Thanks, Aqua, Tia. If this is going to be a daily thing, we’ll need to figure out a better solution.”
“None of the others seem able to do what I can, huh?”
Yeah, that’s exactly it. Only Tia’s Wind Magic has the special effect of beautifully drying hair. I wish the other attendants could do it too.
But I have a theory about why this is the case.
If I remember correctly, the energy that magical creatures use to operate is supplied by the Creator God. That would mean the energy they use when casting magic is also from the Creator God.
Most likely—no, definitely—the magic used by creatures on the surface and the magic used by magical creatures are fundamentally different, even if they look the same. That’s probably why Tia’s magic has unique effects.
Wait a second……….. does this mean I’ll have to dry Mother’s hair every day?
“Hmm, this could be a problem.”
“Young Master, is something the matter?”
“Oh, um…”
Realizing that I couldn’t come up with a good solution on my own, I decided to get everyone’s input. After all, three heads are better than one. I was sure they’d come up with ideas I couldn’t even imagine.
“In that case, why not just have Tia go by herself?”
“Ah, that’s a great idea! Nice thinking, Lagios!”
“Eh? But if Darling doesn’t come along, I won’t feel motivated~.”
“Please, I’m begging you! Have mercy, Goddess Tia!”
I had to plead with Tia and somehow get her to agree.
In other words, I’m powerless against Tia.
“Oh, fine… If you’re going to beg that much, I’ll do it. I just have to take a bath with the ladies, right?”
“That is correct, Princess.”
“Very well, you may relax.”
Alright, that should do it. Looks like one of my problems is about to be solved. Now, all that’s left is to explain this to Mother and get her approval.
If I use the hot spring and hair-drying as bargaining chips, there’s no way she’ll say no. This battle’s outcome was decided before it even started.
“I’ll have to do something to thank Tia. By the way, how did you like the pudding?”
“It was… a strange experience. Is that what it means to eat? And to find something delicious?”
“Plus, the sweetness might have something to do with feeling happy.”
“I see,”
Everyone said, their faces turned serious. Did I say something that deep? Maybe magical creatures are just a bit dull when it comes to sensations like that.
The magical creatures that Selvus and Lala summoned didn’t seem to have emotions either.
“Communicating with magical creatures, huh? Maybe if you spend time with them like I do—summoning them often, talking to them, eating with them, laughing together—they’ll start to act more on their own thoughts. Yeah, I’ll have Selvus and Lala try it out starting tomorrow.”
The magical creatures they summoned looked just like mine. If that’s the case, then by interacting with them the same way I do, they might deepen their mutual understanding and even develop emotions.
Come to think of it, just now, by letting them taste food, it felt like they were gaining new emotions. Maybe the true potential of magical creatures hasn’t been fully realized yet.
If that’s the case, then it’s my responsibility to help them reach that potential. After all, they’re my precious partners.
