Episode 67: In Other Words, It’s Hard to Stop Eating
After thoroughly enjoying the cream puffs and mitarashi dango, the head chef wanted to try making them too. Of course, I gave him permission. We decided to have His Majesty and the others sample the ones he made.
If we start making them now, they’ll be ready just in time for the morning tea.
While teaching the head chef how to use the cooking equipment, I had him make cream puffs and mitarashi dango.
I suddenly wondered if the head chef was okay with his other duties. He probably still had to do the cleaning and prep for lunch. Oh well, it’s not my problem if he gets scolded. Probably.
While I was thinking about that, the additional batches of cream puffs and mitarashi dango were completed. As expected of the royal palace’s head chef, he perfectly replicated them on his first try. I’m truly impressed. If I had made them, they probably would’ve turned out as something entirely different.
“As expected of you, Head Chef. They look absolutely delicious. I’m sure His Majesty and the others will love them.”
“Thank you very much. It’s all thanks to you, Third Prince, and to Master Tetsujin.”
Oh, he’s started calling Tetsujin “Master”. I suppose Tetsujin must look like a divine being to him right now. To me, though, it just looks like a tin robot.
The head chef eagerly left the Summoning Guild. He took the finished products with him to serve them to His Majesty and the others.
From now on, the head chef will probably be the one making cream puffs and mitarashi dango. I’m sure he’ll also teach the other chefs how to make them. A new set of sweets has debuted in this world. Nice going, Tetsujin!
After that, I spent my time working at the Summoning Guild and supervising Selvus and Lala.
“There’s still a bit of time before lunch. I overate a little, so I’ll get some exercise before heading to lunch.”
“Have a good time.”
“Take care.”
With the two of them seeing me off, I left the Summoning Guild. Just as I was leaving, I noticed Lala glance at her stomach for a moment.
It didn’t look like her belly was sticking out or anything. But I wonder if it’d be squishy if I poked it. Who knows.
Since it wouldn’t be practical to bring everyone along, I only took Lagios and Pii-chan today. The rest were sent back.
Everyone seemed satisfied after eating the delicious treats.
“It’s nice how magical creatures don’t get fat. Must be nice… Must be really nice… I wish I were a magical creature…”
“That may be true. But if you imagine them gaining weight when you summon them, they might actually appear that way.”
“Pii-chan?”
“You’re right… I must be careful not to imagine that. If Tia ended up fat, she’d definitely get back at me later.”
If that happened, she’d absolutely play pranks on me. No matter whether I gave her sweets or not. And they’d be terrible pranks, too!
While I was trembling at the thought, I heard footsteps approaching from behind. Since neither Lagios nor Pii-chan reacted, it probably wasn’t someone dangerous. Who could it be?
“Who are you calling fat?”
“Mother!”
It was my mother. She was holding a parasol adorned with plenty of lace. Normally, a servant would be carrying it for her. So why was she holding it herself? And her outfit was more casual than usual, looking easy to move in—like she could go straight into a yoga session.
“Rufus, you’ve created something truly remarkable once again. Both the cream puffs and the mitarashi dango were absolutely delicious. I even found myself going back for seconds.”
Mother smiled warmly. It seems she enjoyed them thoroughly. Maybe a little too thoroughly.
In other words, she overate.
“I’m glad you liked them. I ate too much as well, so I’m getting some exercise now.”
“Oh, I can imagine. His Majesty loved them too and ate quite a few. That’s rare.”
She looked off into the distance as if recalling the scene. Just how many did His Majesty eat? If Mother is this astonished, it must have been quite a lot.
As I stood there, staring off into the distance with her, I suddenly felt her gaze on me.
“Oh, by the way, His Majesty is planning to sell the pudding, cream puffs, and mitarashi dango with the head chef. And they’ll be using your name, Rufus.”
“WHAT?!”
I did want the pudding, cream puffs, and mitarashi dango to become popular with a lot of people. But I definitely didn’t want my name associated with them.
Does that mean I’ll be credited as the creator? That’s completely wrong! If anyone’s name should be on them, it should be Tetsujin’s.
“Oh, it’s nothing to be surprised about. You recreated foods from ancient times in this era. That alone is incredibly valuable. And on top of that, they’re delicious. These should definitely be spread worldwide.”
I see… They want to spread pudding, cream puffs, and mitarashi dango across the world while also promoting the name of the Kingdom of Eladoria. And to do that, it’s convenient to attach my name as the Third Prince of Eladoria.
If people believe that I have the power to recreate things from an ancient civilization, other countries will surely start paying attention to the Kingdom of Eladoria. That, in turn, would strengthen the kingdom’s national power.
Looks like I can’t refuse. It’s already been woven into the country’s strategic plans. What a hassle.
