Episode 70: In Other Words, That Means ‘Prince of Sweets’
While eating the cream puffs and mitarashi dango that were brought out, the King turned his gaze toward me. Now that I think about it, there was a feeling that he wanted to discuss what to do with these sweets.
I stopped eating and looked at him.
“Rufus, I want to have the kingdom take the lead in spreading these cream puffs and mitarashi dango to the citizens. Of course, the pudding from the other day as well.”
“I think that’s a great idea. They don’t seem too difficult to make, and I’m sure the citizens will love them. There aren’t many types of sweets available yet, after all.”
The King nodded in satisfaction at my response. Perfect. Now I could pass all the work on to someone else. Surely, the palace chefs would take the lead in popularizing them.
“Therefore, I plan to market them as ‘Rufus Brand Sweets’ to the citizens and even abroad.”
Rufus Brand?! Why is my name included in the sweets that are about to be spread around? Isn’t it enough that I was merely the one who resurrected these ancient desserts? Besides, Tetsujin is the one who actually recreated them.
“Um, wouldn’t it be fine not to attach my name to them?”
I knew it was probably futile, but I wanted to decline if possible. After all, if they were branded as “Rufus Sweets,” people might start calling me the “Prince of Sweets”. I’d rather avoid that. It sounds kind of squishy.
If possible, I’d prefer to be known as the “Summoning Prince” instead. That would help promote my Summoning Skill, after all.
“That was the head chef’s wish. The other chefs agreed, too. They hope you’ll continue to teach them new recipes.”
“Well, that’s actually Tetsujin’s…”
But this excuse had already been proven useless earlier. Whatever magical creatures do is the responsibility of their summoner. Since magical creatures only move upon command, it’s only natural.
“Huh? I thought the reason for going to the Flute Duchy was because it’s about time for Rufus to make a public appearance, wasn’t it? If that’s the case, then this would be perfect timing.”
Guh! Brother Leonard, is this payback for earlier? How petty can you get? I’ll make sure to pay him back for this.
“Understood. In that case, let’s go with that plan.”
“I knew you’d say that, Rufus.”
The King laughed cheerfully. I bet he saw this as a reward for recreating the new sweets.
If that’s the case, I’d rather have a public park where I can play freely with everyone. That way, I could have fun times with all my friends.

Though the burden on my shoulders grew a little heavier, it couldn’t be helped. I needed to change my mindset.
With that settled, I decided to focus on my own work today. Of course, that meant sorting through the mountain of catalogs that Brother Gilliam had sent me.
“Tora-chan, as usual, I’ll need your help.”
“Understood.”
“You seem quite motivated today.”
“Well, I’ll be heading out soon, so I want to get as much done as possible before then.”
As I was talking to Lagios about this, Balt, Ray, Selvus, and Lala gathered around. They were seemingly curious.
I decided to share what was discussed during lunch with everyone. Sharing information is crucial, after all. Especially since the Summoning Guild consists of only three members, including me. I’ll need them to handle things while I’m away.
Balt nodded vigorously after hearing my story.
“A visit to the Flute Duchy, is it? While Leonard-sama will likely handle the main preparations, that doesn’t mean we can do nothing.”
“Rufus-sama, we’ll be accompanying you, right?”
Ray looked a bit anxious. Did he not want to go to the Flute Duchy? I hadn’t heard of any issues between him and that place, though.
“Of course, Ray. Will you both come with me?”
“Of course!”
“Absolutely!”
Ray replied energetically, and Balt responded as if it were only natural. Good, I’m glad they didn’t abandon me. Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m becoming the “Prince of Mishaps”. So I was worried they might eventually leave me behind.
“What about Selvus and Lala…?”
When I looked at the two of them, they shook their heads vigorously from side to side. It seemed they didn’t want to go to the Flute Duchy.
Well, that made sense. It likely wouldn’t just end with a simple inspection. We would almost certainly have to greet the Duke of Flute. They were probably expecting that, too. After all, the future of the ducal house was at stake—though that might be a bit of an exaggeration.
“I guess you two will be staying behind. I’ll need you to handle things while I’m away.”
“Understood.”
“Leave it to us.”
Selvus and Lala looked visibly relieved. I’m not that cruel, you know.
If this were my past life, I probably would’ve reacted the same way they did. It’s amazing how people can change with time. Before I knew it, I’d started to accept my role as a prince of this kingdom.
Plus, I now have reliable companions by my side. If it’s for the sake of showing everyone how great and trustworthy they are, I’m willing to give it my all. If I can showcase their excellence and how safe they are to be around, maybe one day, I’ll be able to take them with me wherever I go. I’ll do my best.
With renewed determination, I randomly pulled out a few sheets from the mountain of catalogs. I then checked whether the items listed were available.
The King did say I didn’t need to look through everything. So this pace should be fine.
Maybe just checking a few from each category would be enough.
But finding those categories among this massive pile is a real pain……….
Oh, right. Since everyone I summoned is here, I might as well have them help me out.
