Episode 72: In Other Words, the Room Was Too Small
Ray brought back the cream puffs and mitarashi dango. According to him, quite a large number had been made.
It seems that His Majesty the King and the head chef are seriously planning to spread these sweets. Maybe they’re going to serve them to the nobles first? By now, they’re probably enjoying the new treats.
At the same time, the title of “Prince of Sweets” might also be spreading.
Oh well, I’ll just accept it. Whatever happens, happens. It’s best to go with the flow, like a leaf on a river.
“Thanks to everyone, we might finish verifying the inventory by today. I really appreciate it.”
“No need to thank us. We will do anything if it’s your command, Master.”
“The pudding was delicious. But cream puffs are good too.”
Tia said this while getting a cream puff from Lagios. Of course, she also shared her pudding. My summoned magical creatures sure get along well.
“Selvus, do magical creatures have compatibility or anything like that?”
“I’ve never heard of such a thing. Normally, they don’t move without specific commands.”
“I see, that makes sense. I’ll just have to investigate that myself from now on.”
So far, I haven’t seen any conflicts between my summoned magical creatures and those summoned by Selvus and Lala.
I wonder if they don’t fight because they don’t see each other as the same kind. Or if they simply don’t feel like fighting. It’s hard to say.
“Prince Rufus, thank you for the pudding the other day. My grandchild was delighted. We’re also taking good care of the mug you gave us.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Oh, I’ll give you a recipe so you can make it at your house, Selvus. That way, you can have it anytime.”
“Thank you very much.”
Selvus bowed deeply. There’s no need to bow so low. But then again, I am a prince of this country. I guess there will always be some distance between us. It can’t be helped.
That’s exactly why I need to find a comfortable distance to interact with everyone, while respecting each other’s positions.
“I also proudly display the mug I received from the Guild Master. It feels too precious to actually use.”
“You don’t have to hold back. If it breaks, I’ll just give you a new one.”
Balt and Ray were visibly shocked by my comment. Well, they know that each mug is worth a hundred gold coins. No wonder they looked like that.
But I can’t let Selvus and Lala know about its value. If they knew, they might feel compelled to return it. That would be awkward.
After our break, we resumed work. The sweets had cleared our heads, and everyone seemed energized. They performed their tasks enthusiastically.
“Phew, that’s done. In the end, most of it was inside Tora-chan. I can’t believe my ancestors were such collectors.”
“Well done, Master.”
“Thanks, Lagios. And thank you, everyone. I couldn’t have done it without you. Who knows how many more days it would’ve taken alone?”
Just organizing the inventory by myself would have been exhausting. I’m truly grateful.
But when did Brother Gilliam prepare this massive amount of inventory lists?
It’s almost as if he used a Room of Spirit and Time. Or maybe he anticipated this and prepared everything in advance. That wouldn’t be surprising.
(Note: It’s a Dragon Ball reference. Uncultured people……if you don’t know this reference, I suggest watching it if you have the time ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧.)
“But Young Master, why did you suddenly decide to finish it all? I remember you saying it was okay to take time.”
“Well, that’s true, but I wanted to finish before heading to the Duchy of Flute. I can’t relax if I leave work unfinished. Also, the Summoning Guild being this cramped is inconvenient, right?”
Mainly used for practicing Summoning Skills. Some magical creatures are quite large, too. And I need enough space to practice summoning them.
Until just a moment ago, half of the only desk in the room was buried under a mountain of inventory lists.
Selvus and Lala didn’t say anything, but let me be blunt—
It was in the way!
“Well then, I’m off to report to His Majesty. Balt, could you check His Majesty’s schedule for me? Ah, but before that, Balt and Ray, could you come over here for a moment?”
The two of them approached with curious looks. Honestly, only Balt, who was about to go see His Majesty, needed to hear this. But if I whispered to Balt alone, Ray might feel left out. It’s tough being in a position of leadership.
“Tell His Majesty that we found almost all of the inventory lists. That alone might be enough for the report since His Majesty is probably busy.”
“Understood. I’ll report it that way.”
Ray also nodded firmly. It seemed he understood that this was a sensitive matter.
I felt a bit guilty toward Selvus and Lala, but I had to keep this secret from them. It was definitely better for them not to know about something this dangerous.
I have Balt, Ray, and my reliable companions on my side. But I can’t assign bodyguards to Selvus and Lala around the clock. Considering the nature of what’s inside Tora-chan, the two of them are likely at the greatest risk.
Of course, it goes without saying that I need to be cautious as well.
