Episode 74: In Other Words, Magic Tool Artisans Do Exist
I had Tora-chan bring out the instruction manual for the Wind Box and handed it to His Majesty the King. Of course, the manual was written in ancient script. So it would need to be deciphered.
I was wondering how to explain it, but it turned out my worries were unnecessary. His Majesty was reading the manual while humming in thought.
It seems His Majesty can read ancient script. Well, that makes sense. Since he’s interested in magical tools used by the ancients, it’s only natural he’d learn to read their language.
Come to think of it, maybe the reason Brother Gilliam is so obsessed with ancient civilizations is that he grew up watching His Majesty from behind.
To prevent me and Brother Leonard from following in Brother Gilliam’s footsteps and becoming ancient civilization nerds, Mother must have deliberately kept us from seeing His Majesty’s obsession.
Well, Brother Gilliam does have the Scholar Skill. So even without His Majesty’s influence, he might have turned out the same way. It’s not His Majesty’s fault, nor Mother’s.
In front of me, His Majesty was gleefully operating the Wind Box like a child with a new toy. He was letting out small cries of delight.
Did he already suspect there were magical tools inside Tora-chan? Could that be why he called me here in the first place? The thought crossed my mind.
“Your Majesty, if our conversation is finished, may I take my leave…?”
“Wait. Rufus, there are more of the same item inside, right?”
“Yes, well… that’s true.”
“Then could you bring out another one? I want to give it to the magical tool artisans for research.”
So, magical tool artisans do exist. And apparently, they’re under His Majesty’s management.
Considering every country is desperate to investigate relics from the super ancient civilization era, it’s only natural they’d exist.
However, it seems they don’t operate publicly. Is it because they’d be targeted by spies or something?
“Of course. Tora-chan, please.”
“Understood.”
I handed another identical Wind Box to His Majesty. It seemed he hadn’t considered giving the first one to the magical tool artisans for research. As expected of him.
“With this, our nation’s understanding of the super ancient civilization era will deepen even further. Perhaps we’ll even be able to activate that. Rufus, you’ve done well. I’ll reward you.”
“Thank you very much. Um… what is it?”
“Hmm, it’s a secret, just between us.”
With that, His Majesty beckoned me closer. Though it was somewhat improper, I leaned my face near his.
“The truth is, a giant ship is lying dormant somewhere in this country. According to researchers, it’s a ship that flies in the sky.”
“No way, an airship!?”
“Shh! Not so loud!”
“S-sorry!”
I glanced over at Balt and Ray. They were both staring off into the distance. They were clearly pretending they hadn’t heard anything. They really know how to navigate these situations.
An airship, huh? The super ancient civilization era must have been incredible. It wouldn’t be surprising if they had even ventured beyond this planet.
“Is something like that really here?”
“Yes, indeed. But… an ‘airship’, huh? That’s a good name. I’ll use that.”
“P-please feel free…”
Oh no, did I just name it by accident? I might have just determined the name of that flying ship right here and now.
It could have originally been called something else, but my memories from my past life… Well, I’ve already said it, so it can’t be helped. Whatever happens, happens.
“Oh, I almost forgot. Don’t tell Gilliam about this.”
“Of course.”
If Brother Gilliam found out that a flying ship was hidden somewhere in this country, he’d definitely dash out of the castle. He might not come back until he made the ship fly. I absolutely can’t tell him.
More importantly, if Mother finds out about the Wind Box I gave to His Majesty, it could become a huge hassle. Does His Majesty realize that? He does, right? I believe in him.
After that, just to be clear, the magical tools were brought out on His Majesty the King’s orders. So if his work gets delayed, it’s not my fault. Just making sure that’s understood.
“Now then, back to the matter of your reward. Is there anything you want?”
“In that case, I’d like a place where I can run around with the magical creatures I’ve summoned.”
“I see. If we have such a place, other summoners will also be able to freely test their abilities. Rufus, don’t you think that our nation currently has a better understanding of the Summoning Skill than any other country?”
“Yes, I do.”
Satisfied with my answer, His Majesty nodded with a look of agreement. It seems that he aims not only to get ahead with magical tools but also with the Summoning Skill compared to other countries.
This works out perfectly for me, It will help raise awareness about Summoning Skills.
“Alright, I understand. I’ll select a location right away and grant it to you, Rufus.”
“Thank you very much.”
Yes! We’ve secured a playground for everyone! Now no one will have to worry about a lack of exercise. Eventually, it might even be nice to organize a “Magical Creature Interaction Park” there. If the children enjoy it, it could lead to more people with Summoning Skills in the future.
