Episode 75: In Other Words, Everyone Wanted to Play Outside
The report to His Majesty the King was successfully completed. It allowed me to finish one task. This means I’ve now managed to fulfill my role as a member of the royal family.
By the way, I didn’t mention the magic crystal. So the Wind Box will probably stop working once it runs out of fuel. When that happens, His Majesty will likely come to his senses.
Still, I can’t believe there’s such a large vehicle as an airship. This could mean that there are even larger magic tools than I imagined. I wonder if things like the Ice Room are considered the weakest among the Four Heavenly Kings of magic tools. Poor Ice Room—it’s okay to cry.
“Does Tora-chan have a flying ship inside?”
“Umm, no, but there are some documents related to it.”
“Documents? Like blueprints?”
“Seems like it. Also, there’s a user manual.”
“There’s even that? Well, no need to bring it out.”
If I were to submit something like that to His Majesty, the airship restoration project would definitely be set in motion. It’s a good thing His Majesty didn’t realize that Tora-chan might have such large-scale magic tools hidden inside.
I didn’t expect it either. That was a surprise.
After returning to my room, I immediately called everyone together. I considered stopping by the Summoning Guild before heading back. But I decided against it. After all, I’m the one who declared today’s activities over. It wouldn’t be good for the Guild Master to go back on that. It could cause Selvus and Lala to distrust me.
“Hey, listen up, everyone. I asked His Majesty, and he’s agreed to create a place where we can all play freely outside.”
“Bear!?”
“That’s great news! Is it okay if I dig holes?”
“Of course, but make sure to fill them back in when you’re done.”
“Of course!”
Hearing about a place to play outside, Beartolt reacted excitedly. It must have been thinking about exercising and getting fit.
However, Beartolt looked at its reflection. It was tilting its head in confusion. No wonder—it’s now in a muscular form, having shed all its excess fat.
Beard, noticing its change, stood in front of the mirror with Pii-chan. It was striking a side chest pose.
Pii-chan, you don’t need to teach Beartolt unnecessary things, okay? Although, it seems pointless to stop them… Oh well.
“Playing freely outside, huh? That does sound appealing. I haven’t been able to run at full speed yet.”
“Lagios running at full speed… Please do it in puppy size, okay?”
I feel like Lagios running at full speed in its original size would be terrifying. I should observe how things go first since I don’t know how big the area His Majesty is preparing will be.
“Alright! I’m gonna dig a ton of pitfall traps!”
“Please don’t. No pitfall traps or pranks, okay?”
“Aww! There goes my reason for being…”
“You’re cute just by being here, Tia. So it’s okay.”
“Really? If Darling says that much, then I suppose it’s fine.”
Tia started wriggling happily. Victory! With this, I’ve managed to avoid Tia’s pranks. Words are free, after all. And to be honest, Tia really is cute.
While everyone was excitedly discussing what to do outside, it seemed like dinner preparations were finished. A servant came to call me. Though it felt a bit earlier than usual.
Leaving everyone in the room, I headed to the dining room.
Huh? It feels unusually quiet. I can hear a scratching sound, like someone writing something. It’s coming from the dining room. No way…………
“M-Mother?”
“You’re here, Rufus. Sit down.”
“Yes.”
I obediently sat down as instructed. The person desperately scribbling something was none other than His Majesty.
No way… And behind His Majesty’s chair, a wooden sword was leaning against it.
No way…
“Rufus, it seems you gave His Majesty something you shouldn’t have, didn’t you?”
“Are you talking about the Wind Box?”
Mother silently nodded. Apparently, she already found out. Could it be that His Majesty was playing with it instead of doing his official duties?
I glanced at His Majesty the King, but he seemed unaware of my presence. He was silently focused on writing something.
“Oh, you don’t need to worry about His Majesty. He’s diligently working right now.”
“I-I see.”
It appeared that His Majesty was being made to do his work under Mother’s watchful eye. But thanks to that, his work efficiency seemed pretty high—though, of course, his mental endurance was being completely ignored.
“Didn’t you know, Rufus? His Majesty has been obsessed with magic tools since he was a child.”
“No, I just found out moments ago.”
“Well, I suppose that can’t be helped. I tried to keep you away from anything related to magic tools as much as possible. But it seems to have backfired.”
Mother held her head in her hands. This must be pretty serious. She might even be thinking of it as a lifelong mistake. It seems that showing magic tools in front of His Majesty was a bad idea. If I had known this in advance, I might have kept quiet about it.
“Listen carefully. Don’t show any more magic tools in front of His Majesty. Understood?”
“Understood.”
I wonder if Mother knows about the airship. From how His Majesty was talking, it didn’t seem like she was aware of it. If she found out, who knows how she’d react.
Should I tell her or keep it to myself? I’m not sure what to do.
