Episode 98: In Other Words, Being Royal Is a Real Hassle
If the Duke’s family were to fall or lose power, it would only lead to chaos in the Kingdom of Eladoria. And that would be exactly what *they* want—whoever *they* are.
But I do know one thing: whoever they are, they’re getting in the way of my fun, fluffy time. And I can’t have that. If that’s the case, I’ll go all out to stop them. I wouldn’t even mind wiping out an entire country if necessary.
If I sic Lagios on them, it would be a piece of cake. I’d probably get some change back too.
While I was thinking about this, I noticed Duke Flute looking at me with a stiff expression. Oh, was I making a scary face just now? Whoops, my bad.
Brother Leonard glanced at me. Are we almost there? The only remaining issue might be… us, huh?
“Also, we came out of this unharmed. And that was thanks to the knights of the Duke of Flute who risked their lives to protect us, wasn’t it?”
“Hmm, that’s true.”
Brother Leonard nodded. He looked like he wanted to say, “Well done.” I think this should do it.
If the Duke’s knights had run away at that moment, it would have been a big problem. But they stood their ground against that many Goblins.
In fact, they tried to help us escape along with Balt and Ray. That deserves recognition, even if they didn’t end up fighting the Goblins directly.
“I’ll report this matter to His Majesty the King and request a reduced sentence. Are you okay with that, Rufus?”
“Thank you very much.”
“Prince Leonard, Prince Rufus, thank you for your generosity.”
Duke Flute and Flare-chan bowed once more. We’ve done all we can here. The final judgment rests with His Majesty. There’s no point in discussing it further now.
I resumed my meal, which had gotten a bit cold but was still delicious. The food is always a little cold because it goes through a taster first. I wish I could have a hot meal once in a while. I wonder if I could use a microwave or something………
“Prince Rufus, thank you for your support.”
“What do you mean? I only spoke my mind.”
I smiled back at him. If I admitted to helping, it might look like I’m colluding with the Duke. Even if it’s just for appearances, it’s better to play dumb for now.
As I was thinking that, Duke Flute bowed his head. He looked like he was barely holding back a smile.
What’s up with that? I thought my true intentions were obvious, but maybe not? I don’t see anything funny about this situation.
While I tilted my head in confusion, Flare-chan started talking to me.
Oh, right. One of my missions during this visit was to get closer to Flare-chan. Remembering that, I chatted with her about all sorts of things until dinner was over.
“Finally, today’s official duties are over. I’m free!”
When I returned to my room, I threw myself onto the sofa. It’s a bit rude, but Brother Leonard is the only one here. So it should be fine. He probably did the same thing when he was younger. I just know it.
“Rufus, what are you talking about? There’s no end to it.”
“What do you mean!?”
“Because you’re going to help write the report.”
“Why!?”
Wait a minute. I was pretty sure Brother Leonard was supposed to write the entire report for this inspection. I’m just a kid—there’s no reason for me to write it. Besides, I don’t even know how.
Oh, I see what’s going on. He’s just too lazy to write it himself, so he’s trying to dump it on me. Not gonna happen.
“Rufus, you remember what you did, right? If I wasn’t there to see it, I can’t exactly report it, can I? You understand that, don’t you?”
“Ah……….”
Oh no, that’s right. Since I’m the one who blew up the mountain, I’m the only one who can write about it. More like a written apology than a report, though.
I’m definitely getting in trouble for this when we get back. But I don’t want to get scolded……….. I had no choice! I did it to protect Flare-chan, to protect everyone! That’s right!
“Well… I was so caught up in the moment that I don’t remember much…”
“Rufus?”
“I just remembered! Please teach me how to write an apology!”
Brother Leonard nodded silently. Looks like I have no choice but to face the consequences.
I got carried away and ended up blowing up an entire mountain. I regret it now.
Does that sound apologetic enough?
“All done, finally.”
“Good job~. Aww, I wish I could’ve blown up a mountain too. Darling, call me next time you decide to blow up a mountain, okay?”
“I’m never doing that again!”
Why would Tia even say that? Brother Leonard have been writing his report at the other table. Now he is giving me a look like, “This guy’s not sorry at all.” I really am sorry, Brother Leonard, I swear.
“Director, you’re going to the mines tomorrow, right?”
“Yeah. But it doesn’t look like we’ll go too deep inside.”
“Ma.”
“Huh? Tetsujin, you want to come too?”
“Ma.”
Tetsujin made a gesture like it was eating something. Ah, so it wants to eat the ores. I wonder if they’re tasty? But if Tetsujin wants to eat them, then I’ll let it. I’m kind not only to fluffy creatures but also to rock-hard ones.
“Alright. You can come too, Tetsujin.”
“In that case, Director, I wanna come too~.”
“Moguran too? I don’t see why not, but…”
I looked over at Brother Leonard to make sure. He rested his chin on his hand for just a moment before nodding. I guess that means it’s okay.
“Looks like it’s fine.”
“Thanks a lot~.”
Moguran looks like a mole, after all. Maybe it just wants to dig around in the big tunnels as much as it likes.
