Kicked Back to a Rich Family by the Real Eldest Daughter - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
“Dr. Xie, Dr. Xie.”
Xie Xiangyi only snapped out of her daze when the nurse in front of her called out her name twice.
She apologetically handed the pen she was holding back to the other person. “Sorry.”
The nurse, Li Li, quickly took the only pen that hadn’t been swiped and looked at Xie Xiangyi before asking, “Dr. Xie, why are you so distracted today?”
Nurse Li Li had met Xie Xiangyi last year when she was in the dermatology department.
Li Li, with her social butterfly and “face-loving” personality, saw Xie Xiangyi like a mouse sees rice. She loved to chat with Xie Xiangyi whenever she could and was now the nurse with the best relationship with Xie Xiangyi at the hospital.
She was quite curious. Xie Xiangyi kept zoning out today.
Xie Xiangyi let out a light “ahem” and casually said, “It’s nothing, just a little tired.”
She had to blame Zhang Yueqi for this.
Now, whenever she wasn’t busy, all she could think of was “your wife misses you.” She couldn’t even manage to distract herself.
Li Li didn’t notice Xie Xiangyi’s perfunctory response. She nodded lightly. “I just remembered you worked a night shift yesterday. It would be strange if you weren’t tired.”
She continued, “But you should really find a way to relieve your stress. I’m genuinely worried that you’ll end up like Dr. Liang from the next department, who vomited from writing his paper. I’m not exaggerating; he really did.”
Xie Xiangyi was a little surprised. “Vomited?”
She knew Dr. Liang from the next department. He was in the same graduating class as her.
Li Li nodded. In fact, she had once accidentally seen Dr. Liang crying in the stairwell, but it wasn’t a good thing to talk about, so she didn’t plan on telling Xie Xiangyi.
She sighed deeply, urging, “You need to pay attention to your physical and mental health.”
To study medicine, you had to have a strong ability to handle stress.
Xie Xiangyi nodded and smiled. “I know. I’m doing well. There are only a few months left. I’ll get through it.”
“That’s true.” Li Li nodded. Her gaze shifted, and she suddenly reached out to Xie Xiangyi, winking and teasing, “I almost forgot to ask, Dr. Xie, do you have wedding candy?”
Xie Xiangyi’s expression froze. She shyly avoided the other person’s gaze, her tone unnatural. “I’ll grab a handful for you next time.”
Li Li was amused by Xie Xiangyi’s rare shyness and let out a chuckle.
“I thought you tagged me in the group chat to show off, but I didn’t know you were so thin-skinned, Dr. Xie.”
Xie Xiangyi: “…”
Xie Xiangyi didn’t want to discuss the issue of being thin-skinned anymore. Besides her work matters, she had something else she wanted to ask Li Li.
She turned her head to look around, let out a loud “ahem,” and her expression became slightly more serious. “Among all the nurses, you’re the most informed. Do you know how the news about me spread?”
Li Li leaned back, pretending to be overly dramatic and covering her mouth in shock. “How did you know that I specifically helped you find out about this, Dr. Xie?”
After saying that, she blinked her eyes hard, afraid that Xie Xiangyi wouldn’t understand her hint.
Xie Xiangyi opened her mouth. She really wanted to curse.
But it was clear from what she said that Li Li probably knew something.
She took out her phone, opened the takeout app, and handed it over. “I’ll order you some milk tea. Hurry up.”
“Okay, Dr. Xie. You’re beautiful and kind.”
After the other person returned the phone, Xie Xiangyi said, “…Tell me.”
Li Li blinked. “I already told you just now.”
Xie Xiangyi’s face was full of confusion. “Who did you talk about?”
Li Li hugged the splint in her arms, looking innocent. “Did I talk about anyone else with you, Dr. Xie?”
Xie Xiangyi was stunned for two seconds and quickly understood who Li Li was talking about.
Dr. Liang?
Xie Xiangyi’s brows furrowed slightly. “What does his stress have to do with me?”
She had hardly had any contact with him. At most, they would nod and say hello when they met.
They had almost no interaction.
Li Li secretly looked left and right, lowering her voice. “Envy, jealousy, and hate.”
“He wanted to stay at the hospital directly after graduation, but he had no chance.”
“And you…”
Li Li pursed her lips. She didn’t need to say the rest.
Xie Xiangyi understood almost everything after hearing Li Li’s words.
Her mentor had told her a while ago that she could stay at the hospital directly after graduation.
But she planned to get her doctorate, so she didn’t agree or refuse directly, saying she would consider it.
Xie Xiangyi was still struggling with the decision. She hadn’t said anything about it publicly, so Dr. Liang probably had his own ways of finding out.
Xie Xiangyi’s expression was displeased. “So it’s purely because of jealousy?”
Li Li hesitated for a moment and nodded. “More or less.”
Xie Xiangyi rarely showed her emotions when she complained. “I haven’t even talked to him.”
Li Li spread her hands. “Jealousy is unreasonable.”
Being envied only meant that Xie Xiangyi was outstanding enough.
After clarifying the situation, the weight on Xie Xiangyi’s mind finally lifted.
She couldn’t help but sigh at how resourceful Li Li was at getting information. She really knew everything.
Xie Xiangyi looked at the time and then at the takeout that was being delivered. “The milk tea will be here in about fifteen minutes. I’m going home now.”
Li Li smiled and waved. “Dr. Xie is so punctual in getting off work today.”
Xie Xiangyi: “…”
Xie Xiangyi left the nurse station without looking back. She was afraid that if she stayed any longer, she wouldn’t be able to stand her ground.
Meanwhile, at home, Tang Jinzhi also had a worried look on her face.
Zhang Yueqi was watching TV and crying, constantly supervising Tang Jinzhi to make sure she was watching seriously.
Tang Jinzhi had been watching TV with her all day, and her eyes were hurting.
The TV show was good and very emotional, but every time there was a tear-jerking moment, Tang Jinzhi’s emotions would be interrupted by a burst of sobbing.
Zhang Yueqi’s eyes were swollen from crying.
Tang Jinzhi had been a tissue-providing assistant all night. She had to admit that Zhang Yueqi’s empathy was too strong.
She was very suitable for playing murder mystery games.
Just as she was thinking this, she heard a “click.”
Xie Xiangyi was finally back!
Tang Jinzhi pressed the tissue she had just pulled out onto Zhang Yueqi’s forehead and rushed to the door.
“Xie Xiangyi!”
Xie Xiangyi’s movement of changing her shoes paused for a moment. Before she even saw the person, she heard Tang Jinzhi’s excited voice.
That sentence couldn’t help but surface in her mind again.
Xie Xiangyi closed her eyes and lowered her head to change her shoes.
When she stood up, Tang Jinzhi had already run to her.
“Are you tired from work? Did you not eat dinner? Are you hungry?” Tang Jinzhi very considerately took the jacket Xie Xiangyi had taken off and continued to mumble, “You barely replied to my messages today.”
Xie Xiangyi looked at Tang Jinzhi, then at the jacket she was holding.
She felt that Tang Jinzhi was adapting to their relationship faster than she was.
“I’m fine. I’m not very hungry. I was quite busy today.”
Tang Jinzhi nodded, reached out to stop Xie Xiangyi from walking to the living room, and pulled her toward the bedroom.
“What’s wrong?”
Xie Xiangyi was pulled along for a few steps. She looked at Zhang Yueqi, whose eyes were fixed on them, a little confused.
Tang Jinzhi tugged on Xie Xiangyi’s sleeve and lowered her voice: “I have something to talk to you about. Let’s go back to the room first.”
Seeing them whispering, Zhang Yueqi’s swollen eyes narrowed. She stood up and moved closer. “Hey! Are you two talking bad about me?”
Tang Jinzhi pushed Xie Xiangyi toward the room. “Nonsense. This has nothing to do with you.”
Zhang Yueqi looked them up and down, and suddenly clapped her hands.
“I know! I’m interrupting your alone time!”
Tang Jinzhi: “…”
She looked up and saw Xie Xiangyi looking at her with the same expression.
Oh my god! She gave up.
