Kicked Back to a Rich Family by the Real Eldest Daughter - Chapter 28.1
Chapter 28.1
She didn’t know what to say. The tickets were already bought. They might as well just watch.
Xie Xiangyi had been busy at the hospital for a long time and hadn’t spent time like this in a while. She looked at Tang Jinzhi next to her, who seemed excited, and felt at ease, thinking that this might not be a waste of time after all.
They waited for a while in the waiting area before it was their turn. Xie Xiangyi led Tang Jinzhi inside. After they found the couple’s seats Zhang Yueqi had specially booked for them and sat down, she didn’t let go of her hand.
It was Xie Xiangyi who didn’t let go.
Tang Jinzhi didn’t know what was wrong with Xie Xiangyi today, but it seemed she really liked holding her hand.
She tentatively hooked her finger, and it was quickly squeezed by Xie Xiangyi.
Tang Jinzhi was speechless. She turned to look at Xie Xiangyi, her eyes asking what she meant. Didn’t she feel embarrassed?
Xie Xiangyi leaned into her ear and explained: “I’m already used to it.”
Tang Jinzhi was confused: “Used to what?”
How strange.
Xie Xiangyi shook their clasped hands: “Holding hands.”
Tang Jinzhi was speechless. So Xie Xiangyi was holding her hand to get more used to it for the future? To hold it more naturally?
What was she going to get used to next? Kissing?
Tang Jinzhi unceremoniously slapped Xie Xiangyi’s hand away, her tone full of speechlessness. “So you’re practicing holding hands. I thought you had some kind of special fetish.”
To keep Xie Xiangyi from feeling awkward, she hadn’t pulled her hand away and had let her hold it the entire time.
Xie Xiangyi took a sip of the fruit tea next to her and faced the large screen, her tone calm. “It’s not really practice. You were the one who held my hand first.”
Tang Jinzhi was blocked by her words and immediately lost her momentum to pick a fight with Xie Xiangyi. She also turned to stare at the large screen.
The little follower didn’t want to be a third wheel, so she didn’t sit with them. The people around them were all couples. When the lights dimmed, they could occasionally hear laughter.
The beginning of the film was a scene of two people kissing.
As soon as the scene of them kissing each other’s nose and chin came on, Tang Jinzhi heard the sound of Xie Xiangyi choking on her milk tea next to her.
Tang Jinzhi: “…”
It wasn’t Xie Xiangyi’s fault for overthinking. Tang Jinzhi also thought of the scene of them kissing yesterday.
To be fair, the scene in the movie was too ambiguous and a little suggestive.
It was ridiculous.
It would have been fine if Xie Xiangyi hadn’t coughed, but now that she was coughing, Tang Jinzhi started to feel awkward.
Tang Jinzhi took pity on her and reached out to pat Xie Xiangyi’s back to help her catch her breath.
Xie Xiangyi covered her mouth and coughed twice. Fortunately, the lights were dim. From the heat that was rushing from her neck to her cheeks, she could tell how red her face and neck were.
“Cough, are you okay?” Tang Jinzhi asked in a low voice, leaning into her ear.
The warm breath sprayed on her earlobe. Xie Xiangyi subconsciously flinched. Her voice was still calm. “I’m fine. Let’s keep watching.”
Tang Jinzhi gave a soft “mhm.” Just as she sat up straight, she heard Xie Xiangyi add, “Maybe it’ll be better once I get used to it.”
Tang Jinzhi: “…”
I know, I know. I know you’re trying to get used to our relationship, but can you not say it out loud!
Tang Jinzhi gritted her teeth in her heart.
For the next hour and a half, the two of them didn’t say a single word because they didn’t dare to.
Xie Xiangyi was almost unable to sit still.
The movie was too explicit. The couples around them were too bold. Not only were there sounds of kissing and heavy breathing in the movie, but there were also…
She now understood that this movie was implicitly for couples to flirt.
Noticing the commotion around them, Tang Jinzhi was also having a hard time, but half of her attention was still on the movie, so she wasn’t as “distracted” as Xie Xiangyi.
When the movie ended and the end credits started to play, the lights in the theater came back on. Xie Xiangyi’s heart, which had been in her throat, finally relaxed. She felt that the air around her was filled with a sticky, ambiguous atmosphere, and she wanted to leave quickly.
The audience in the theater was leaving one after another, but Tang Jinzhi remained seated. She listened to the familiar yet strange voice in the end credit song, her mood a little complicated.
At this moment, Zhang Yueqi came over to find them, pointed at the large screen, and said to Tang Jinzhi, “The singing voice sounds just like you.”
Tang Jinzhi’s eyebrows twitched. Zhang Yueqi was quite observant. This song had appeared in “Tang Jinzhi’s” playlist.
Xie Xiangyi also looked at the screen. She was so focused on leaving just now that she hadn’t paid attention. Now that she was listening, she realized that it sounded like Tang Jinzhi’s singing.
Facing their gazes, Tang Jinzhi spread her hands. “Yes, that’s right. It’s a song sung by ‘Tang Jinzhi,’ but it’s not me.”
Zhang Yueqi followed them out. Hearing Tang Jinzhi’s words, she was surprised but also felt strange. “It is you! But aren’t you Tang Jinzhi? Is there a second Tang Jinzhi?”
She added: “You sing pretty well. Are you a singer?”
Tang Jinzhi smiled: “You’re so smart. There are two Tang Jinzhis, but I’m not a singer.”
Xie Xiangyi’s gaze lingered on her face for two seconds. She was a little confused. She casually took Tang Jinzhi’s hand and didn’t immediately comment.
Zhang Yueqi walked backward in front of them, facing them, and tilted her head with a smile. “I get it. It’s you before you had amnesia and you after you had amnesia.”
Tang Jinzhi’s long eyelashes trembled. She lowered her eyes and answered very seriously: “No, you can’t understand it that way.”
She was being very pretentious. She just wanted to be herself.
“Huh?” Zhang Yueqi didn’t understand.
Hearing the almost inaudible sigh next to her, Xie Xiangyi couldn’t help but look at Tang Jinzhi’s expression. Was it disappointment or loneliness?
How could this be?
Without waiting for Tang Jinzhi’s explanation, Xie Xiangyi lowered her eyes in contemplation. After a while, she finally spoke, her words full of uncertainty. “Two Tang Jinzhis means one is the singer Tang Jinzhi, and one is the novelist Tang Jinzhi. Are you the latter?”
Tang Jinzhi’s eyes lit up, and she nodded heavily.
She had decided. Xie Xiangyi could hold her hand for as long as she wanted today!
Tang Jinzhi stared at Xie Xiangyi with bright eyes. Her smiling eyes shook Xie Xiangyi’s heart. She didn’t hesitate to praise her: “Smart. You’ve never misunderstood what I meant.”
Xie Xiangyi was led out of the theater in a daze.
She was confused. Although she had said the words, she hadn’t thought about them in detail.
Some things are terrifying to think about, but this Tang Jinzhi thing was also terrifying to think about.
Xie Xiangyi started to doubt whether her own thoughts were wrong and whether she should really follow what Tang Jinzhi said.
She always felt that something was not right and didn’t dare to think further.
“Ouch!”
Zhang Yueqi, who was walking backward, bumped her head without paying attention. The yelp temporarily brought Xie Xiangyi back to her senses.
Xie Xiangyi frowned at her: “Can’t you just walk properly?”
Zhang Yueqi, holding the back of her head, was not convinced. “Why don’t you talk about yourself spacing out while walking! Is it because someone is holding your hand and leading you?”
Tang Jinzhi smiled and helped her out: “Yes, you don’t.”
She was in a very good mood right now.
Zhang Yueqi rolled her eyes. She held her head and walked next to Tang Jinzhi, “Tch.” She then suddenly asked, “What did you think of the movie?”
Tang Jinzhi thought for a moment and nodded: “It was pretty good.”
Zhang Yueqi’s hand, which was rubbing the back of her head, paused. She asked tentatively: “You don’t think it was cheesy?”
Tang Jinzhi pursed her lips and commented: “It was a little, but it’s forgivable.”
The scenes she imagined from reading the text were a little different from the ones she saw with her eyes. Besides, it was two beautiful young ladies. Could it be the same?
To Zhang Yueqi, this type of movie was very common, and she didn’t think there was anything special about it. But for Tang Jinzhi, it was completely different.
Someone was making a yuri movie with so many ambiguous plots for her to watch. She should be happy. How could she have the nerve to complain?
Maybe in the future, she would find it ordinary, but not now. To Tang Jinzhi, this was like a mouse entering a rice jar. She wasn’t tired of it yet. Everything felt new to her.
Zhang Yueqi complained: “You’re so biased.”
Tang Jinzhi gave a soft laugh and sighed in a low voice: “Because you don’t know how barren the world I was in was.”
Zhang Yueqi: “I don’t get it.”
Xie Xiangyi also didn’t quite get it, but she heard the disappointment and melancholy in Tang Jinzhi’s tone.
They left the mall.
Zhang Yueqi still had 300 yuan in her pocket. She knew Tang Jinzhi sang well, so she thought about taking them to a KTV to sing. But this idea was immediately stopped by Tang Jinzhi.
Tang Jinzhi: “Aren’t you going to hang out with your friends who are coming to visit in a few days? Aren’t you going to save some money for yourself?”
The tickets and everything were already bought. If Zhang Yueqi only paid for her food and drinks, 300 yuan should be enough for her to spend for two or three days, right? After all, she could just come back and live here and not have to pay for a hotel.
It was a good thing Tang Jinzhi didn’t remind her. As soon as she did, Zhang Yueqi’s emotions flared up. Whose fault was it that she didn’t have any money to spend!
Zhang Yueqi said angrily, “I’m not singing! Let’s go home!”
Xie Xiangyi raised her eyebrows. She was suddenly a little excited to see how Zhang Yueqi would scold her and Tang Jinzhi after she came back from her trip with her friends.
On the way home, they bought some snacks and groceries for the next day at the supermarket. Since Xie Xiangyi was paying, Zhang Yueqi was not shy and bought a whole bunch.
After carrying everything home, Zhang Yueqi was exhausted.
She lay on the sofa, gasping for breath and angrily complaining, “You, you two, are, are heartless!”
Tang Jinzhi put some of the refrigerated food in the fridge without turning her head. “Who told you to buy so many drinks? There are some at home. Whose fault is it that you don’t know how heavy drinks are?”
Xie Xiangyi walked over and kicked Zhang Yueqi. “I told you to exercise more, but you didn’t listen.”
Now she was tired as a dog.
Zhang Yueqi rolled on the sofa and looked up at Xie Xiangyi. “I’ve noticed that you’ve changed. You’re not so aloof anymore.”
Xie Xiangyi was stunned by her sudden words.
“You just never noticed. When was Dr. Xie ever aloof?” Tang Jinzhi walked over after she was done cleaning up and pulled Xie Xiangyi to sit down and rest with her.
Zhang Yueqi lay on the sofa with her feet on the back of the sofa. “Before you two got married.”
Otherwise, why would she only think that Xie Xiangyi was different now?
Xie Xiangyi: “You’re overthinking it.”
She didn’t want them to continue this topic. She didn’t feel that she had changed. The only change was that her life had a new color now that Tang Jinzhi was in it.
“Yeah, you’re overthinking it.” Tang Jinzhi also felt the same. She poured herself a glass of water, took a sip, and continued: “Our Dr. Xie has been a lovable, smiling, good baby since she was little.”
Xie Xiangyi’s face stiffened.
Zhang Yueqi burst into laughter. “Hahahahahaha.”
She was having a great time. “Yes, yes, hahahahaha.”
Xie Xiangyi closed her eyes and turned to look at Tang Jinzhi. “What do you mean?”
Tang Jinzhi couldn’t hold back her laughter. She couldn’t help but reach out and poke Xie Xiangyi’s straight face.
She unceremoniously betrayed her: “Zhang Yueqi told me that before.”
Xie Xiangyi gave a cold snort and grabbed the finger that poked her face. She turned to look at Zhang Yueqi, her gaze so cold it made people shiver.
Betrayed again, Zhang Yueqi was furious. She rolled over and sat up. Under the pressure of Xie Xiangyi’s gaze, she was furious.
She gritted her teeth: “You two are going to have no friends this way!”
Tang Jinzhi looked helpless: “I don’t want to either, but the only way for me to understand Dr. Xie is through you. Even if I don’t say it, she can guess.”
Zhang Yueqi thought about it and realized she was right.
Xie Xiangyi shook her head, took the water cup from Tang Jinzhi’s hand, and left.
There was another way to understand her besides Zhang Yueqi. She remembered telling Tang Jinzhi before that she could ask her directly.
Xie Xiangyi sighed. Forget it. If she didn’t want to ask, then so be it.
Tang Jinzhi, whose water cup was snatched away, looked bewildered. Why did Xie Xiangyi take her water cup?
Was she so annoyed by her teasing that she wouldn’t even let her drink water?
Tang Jinzhi asked: “Where are you going?”
Xie Xiangyi ignored her and left with the cup. When she came back, the cup was filled with the terribly bitter tea that Tang Jinzhi hated.
What a vengeful Xie Xiangyi!
Tang Jinzhi’s face was full of resentment.
Although the tea was bitter, it was effective.
With Xie Xiangyi’s help, Tang Jinzhi only had one nightmare in the first two days, and after that, she didn’t have any recurring dreams. She slept soundly.
However, that nightmare was a little hard to describe.
The dream wasn’t that special. She just dreamed that Xie Xiangyi was cupping her face, and when she thought she was going to kiss her, she took out a cup of gentian grass water and pinched her face to force her to drink it.
It made her so angry that when she woke up, she secretly kicked Xie Xiangyi. But she found that the other person wasn’t asleep at all.
Xie Xiangyi was also speechless to find out that she had such an image in Tang Jinzhi’s dream.
That day, she had come back after a night shift and had deliberately showered in the guest bathroom so as not to wake Tang Jinzhi. But she had been kicked by Tang Jinzhi just two minutes after lying down.
The ungrateful little thing’s kick was so deliberate that it was hard for her to pretend she didn’t know.
Xie Xiangyi found it funny when she thought about that day.
Tang Jinzhi looked at Xie Xiangyi curiously, not understanding what she was laughing about. Zhang Yueqi had gone out with her friends today, so she wasn’t home. Tang Jinzhi was quite bored.
Xie Xiangyi was only at home to come back for lunch.
“Shouldn’t you go back to the hospital for work?”
Xie Xiangyi looked at the time. “Soon.”
Tang Jinzhi nodded, scrolled through her phone, and found the calendar page. “When is your next day off?”
Xie Xiangyi: “The day after tomorrow. I have a day off. What’s wrong?”
Tang Jinzhi thought for a moment and said: “I want to go back for a visit before the engagement.”
She needed Xie Xiangyi to go with her. She also had to get that 50 million. She hoped it wouldn’t be too much trouble.
Their engagement party was on June 6th. It was only April 18th, so they had plenty of time.
Xie Xiangyi thought about her schedule and found that the day after tomorrow was the most suitable. She said directly: “Let’s go the day after tomorrow. I’ll go with you.”
Tang Jinzhi: “Thank you.”
Xie Xiangyi smiled: “You’re welcome. You also have to go back with me.”
Tang Jinzhi was a little surprised: “Huh? When?”
They had known each other for almost a month and a half, and Xie Xiangyi had never talked to her about her family. Now she was suddenly telling her to go back. It was hard not to feel nervous.
“Relax. We’re not going to my place. We’re taking Zhang Yueqi to her place. Her mom said she wanted to meet us.”
Tang Jinzhi nodded in a daze.
Well, it seemed that their marriage was about meeting other people’s parents.
Xie Xiangyi: “There’s no rush. We’ll go after I’m done with things on my end.”
That place was a bit far, and they would probably have to stay there. Xie Xiangyi didn’t have that much time off.
Tang Jinzhi didn’t say anything. She would just follow Xie Xiangyi’s arrangements.
After Xie Xiangyi left, Tang Jinzhi went back to her study. These days, she had spent most of her time checking her million-word manuscript. After fixing the bugs, she turned her attention back to the murder mystery script.
Zhang Yueqi said that her friends would be coming over in a while. She didn’t know if they were her dorm friends. She was being all mysterious and wouldn’t say.
Tang Jinzhi didn’t really care who came to play. She was just excited to see others play her script.
She was currently writing a new script. It was short, but the content was very exciting. She had no other goal than to let Xie Xiangyi play it. She wanted to give Xie Xiangyi a huge shock.
Tang Jinzhi’s smile was evil. She typed on the keyboard with more and more vigor. She was already looking forward to the wonderful expression on Xie Xiangyi’s face when she got her identity.
As for whether Xie Xiangyi would have time to play with her, Tang Jinzhi wasn’t worried at all. There would always be time, and she wasn’t in a hurry.
The afternoon passed quickly. When Xie Xiangyi came back from the hospital, Tang Jinzhi was still sitting at her computer, furiously typing.
Tang Jinzhi took a moment to look at Xie Xiangyi at the door and asked her: “Do you need the study?”
Xie Xiangyi said: “Yes, but I brought my computer. You can continue. I’ll just sit over there.”
She pointed to the tatami on the side, signaling to Tang Jinzhi that she didn’t need to worry about her.
Tang Jinzhi gave an “okay” gesture with her hand and didn’t bother with Xie Xiangyi anymore.
Xie Xiangyi took out her computer and walked to the desk to get her notes and books. But Tang Jinzhi, who had been indifferent to her, was now looking at her with a wary expression.
“What’s wrong?” Xie Xiangyi was confused. She glanced at the computer from the corner of her eye. The word processing page had already been closed.
Was she guarding against her? Was she afraid of letting her see?
Xie Xiangyi was a little unhappy. She didn’t even plan on looking.
Tang Jinzhi said with a serious expression: “You’re not allowed to look. I can’t spoil it for you. I wrote this specifically for you to play.”
Xie Xiangyi blinked, her tone light: “You wrote it specifically for me?”
All the unhappiness in her heart instantly vanished.
Her lips couldn’t help but curve upwards. Okay, since it was written specifically for her, she wouldn’t hold Tang Jinzhi’s previous actions against her.
Tang Jinzhi nodded very seriously: “So you can’t look now.”
Xie Xiangyi smiled with her lips raised and promised: “I promise I won’t look. I’m very excited for the script you wrote.”
Tang Jinzhi let out a forced laugh. “Mhm, good.”
She had put a little extra something into her little creation. She hoped that Xie Xiangyi would still have a calm and collected expression after she played it.
