Kicked Back to a Rich Family by the Real Eldest Daughter - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Xie Xiangyi ignored their banter and looked at Tang Jinzhi with a complicated expression. Her heart, which had been calm, was suddenly in turmoil the moment Tang Jinzhi looked her way.
Tang Jinzhi quickly averted her eyes, trying to explain, “Don’t overthink it. I only did this to get back at them.”
Xie Xiangyi didn’t believe her. She was more inclined to believe what Zhang Yueqi said.
Tang Jinzhi was deliberately helping her, and the revenge was just a side benefit.
She wasn’t even willing to tell her the real reason for doing it, and even now that Zhang Yueqi had exposed her, she didn’t forget to reassure her not to overthink things.
Xie Xiangyi’s throat bobbed. She looked at Tang Jinzhi with a complicated gaze. She didn’t forget to say, “Thank you.”
Tang Jinzhi said dryly, “You’re welcome…”
Tang Jinzhi felt like she saw a mix of touched and bewildered emotions in Xie Xiangyi’s eyes.
She hoped it was her imagination. Xie Xiangyi better not think too much about it, or she would get scared.
Tang Jinzhi tried to salvage the situation, quickly making a counter-argument: “I didn’t try to hide it from you on purpose. Zhang Yueqi just added drama and stole my lines.”
Xie Xiangyi heard it, but she didn’t believe it. She stuck to the idea that “Tang Jinzhi was thinking of me.”
Zhang Yueqi also heard it, and she didn’t believe it either. Why couldn’t it be the script she imagined?
Zhang Yueqi protested, “Alright, don’t be so disingenuous. We all get it.”
Get what, you idiot!
Tang Jinzhi felt a lump in her throat. She decided to stop arguing. The more she explained, the more it got twisted.
But Zhang Yueqi clearly wanted to add more to her own role.
She sat down next to Xie Xiangyi and leaned in eagerly. “Tang Jinzhi’s version is a revenge story, and mine is a romance. Which one do you like?”
Xie Xiangyi’s lowered eyelashes trembled, her eyes revealing confusion.
She had heard Zhang Yueqi’s words and couldn’t help but wonder which one she would prefer.
“Hold it! Actually, I’m going with the career-oriented version!” Tang Jinzhi quickly interrupted them, stopping Xie Xiangyi’s thoughts from wandering.
She couldn’t help but sigh inwardly at how good Zhang Yueqi was at describing things.
Zhang Yueqi was puzzled. “When did we get into a career-oriented story?”
Xie Xiangyi also turned to look at Tang Jinzhi. What else had she not told them?
Tang Jinzhi gave a light “ahem” and raised her chin, suddenly adopting a dignified posture. “Haven’t you heard the saying?”
“Art! Comes from life!”
Zhang Yueqi: “So? What does that have to do with our mischief?”
“What mischief? We were correcting the hospital’s negative atmosphere.” Tang Jinzhi glared at Zhang Yueqi. If she didn’t want to maintain her image, she would have rolled her eyes at Zhang Yueqi.
Zhang Yueqi was speechless. Only a fool would believe her.
Xie Xiangyi, however, nodded at this moment. “It really should be corrected.”
Zhang Yueqi: …?
Tang Jinzhi was quite pleased with Xie Xiangyi’s response.
She stopped being coy and went back to the main topic. “I was simply curious about gossip, which is a ready source of inspiration for me. I just happened to overhear gossip about myself, and that’s why I couldn’t resist joining in.”
She used to often go to the park to listen to old ladies gossip while they sunbathed, but even after hearing so much, she never found any inspiration.
Because Tang Jinzhi realized everyone was just like her, with a not-so-smooth life, and she felt quite relaxed after listening to them.
So, in addition to looking for inspiration, she was also looking for balance.
Zhang Yueqi was very curious about what she meant by “useful.” “What’s the use for you?”
Tang Jinzhi didn’t hide it. “I want to write a few murder mystery scripts. I’m lacking inspiration.”
Zhang Yueqi’s eyes lit up. She was very curious. “Murder mystery? Why are you writing that?”
“To make money. I’m very poor.”
Tang Jinzhi had carefully assessed her assets and connections these past few days and concluded one thing: she had no assets and no connections.
But she had one thing she could use, and that was the benefits the family had promised her when she agreed to the arranged marriage.
She had no plans to be an actress, so she could trade those promised resources.
For example, she could ask them to invest in a variety show that used her murder mystery scripts. This world didn’t have any mystery-solving variety shows yet. Tang Jinzhi thought that as long as the artists were good and her scripts were good, it would be hard not to make money.
Or, for example, she could ask for an introduction to a reliable director, to make her dream of having her novels adapted into TV shows a reality. If possible, the family could invest some money in her name, making her a shareholder.
This was the fastest way she could think of to make a lot of money.
Zhang Yueqi didn’t understand. “How much money can that stuff make?”
She had heard of murder mysteries, but could they make money?
Tang Jinzhi shook her head. “From what I’ve seen so far, not much.”
Tang Jinzhi didn’t want to waste words on something that wasn’t even a sure thing.
There was another thing that had been making her curious.
“Pardon my asking, but are you two very rich?” Tang Jinzhi asked, then added, “Don’t misunderstand, I just feel like our wealthy families aren’t the same.”
After asking, Tang Jinzhi braced herself. She knew she probably wouldn’t be able to handle it, but she couldn’t give up on asking, just so she could completely give up hope.
Zhang Yueqi didn’t even think and immediately took out her phone to check her bank balance.
Seeing her with her head down, carefully counting, Tang Jinzhi’s mouth twitched. She suddenly didn’t dare to listen.
Zhang Yueqi scratched her face. “Ah, there’s only a little over two million yuan left in the card. My mom should be transferring money to me soon.”
Tang Jinzhi was silent. She raised her hand to her chest and slowly turned to look at Xie Xiangyi.
Go on, just put me out of my misery.
Xie Xiangyi turned her head, avoiding her gaze. She didn’t want to be a downer.
The tactless Zhang Yueqi asked, “What about you, Xie Xiangyi?”
Xie Xiangyi’s lips moved twice, and she said softly, “I don’t know.”
Zhang Yueqi didn’t believe her. “Can’t you just open your phone and check?”
After hesitating for a long time, Xie Xiangyi finally said something that silenced both of them: “It’s too much to count in a short time.”
Zhang Yueqi also clutched her chest. “Your wealthy family and my wealthy family are really not the same.”
Then she saw Tang Jinzhi raise her hands to cover her eyes.
Zhang Yueqi: “What are you doing?”
Tang Jinzhi: “I’m scared to listen anymore.”
Zhang Yueqi was puzzled. “Then why are you covering your eyes?”
Tang Jinzhi’s tone was serious: “I’m afraid my eyes will start glowing green.”
Xie Xiangyi, who had been listening in, was speechless: “…”
She had already said she didn’t know…
Tang Jinzhi suppressed her envy and quickly calmed herself down.
She was just feeling bad for the original owner. She wasn’t affected at all!
Xie Xiangyi looked at them again and decided to explain, “That’s all money that the family transfers into my account periodically. The shares belong to the family, too. I didn’t earn any of it myself.”
Tang Jinzhi was stunned for a moment. Was Xie Xiangyi trying to comfort her?
Realizing this, Tang Jinzhi suddenly let out a laugh. She blinked. “So, that means I’m more impressive than you.”
Xie Xiangyi’s expression immediately softened. She smiled and said, “Mhm. I’m not even a chief resident yet, so I don’t earn much.”
Zhang Yueqi, who was just about to call her mom and demand more allowance, quietly put down her phone.
Tang Jinzhi’s focus suddenly shifted.
“Huh? You’re not a chief resident yet?”
Tang Jinzhi only knew that when you got sick, you saw a doctor. She didn’t know much about the medical profession.
The expression on Xie Xiangyi’s face froze for a moment. Wasn’t that normal?
She took a light breath and pretended nothing was wrong. “Mhm… I’m not.”
But Zhang Yueqi, who had done her research, knew a lot. She explained for Xie Xiangyi, “She’s only 26 this year. She has a long way to go.”
Xie Xiangyi nodded innocently. It really wasn’t because she wasn’t working hard.
Tang Jinzhi had a sudden realization. “Oh, I see. I just felt like you seemed so reliable, so I thought you were like Dr. Qiu.”
Xie Xiangyi’s lips couldn’t help but curl into a smile. She gave a soft “mhm” and then seriously replied, “Dr. Qiu is amazing. I’m still a long way from her level.”
Zhang Yueqi nodded repeatedly. “Exactly, exactly.”
And the “amazing” Dr. Qiu finally came over while they were happily chatting.
“Why are you all sitting outside?”
Tang Jinzhi smiled in response. “It’s easier to chat outside.”
She then asked, “Dr. Qiu, can I be discharged?”
Qiu Wanjun nodded. “Yes, but remember to come back for a check-up.”
She had planned to talk about this anyway. Tang Jinzhi was indeed able to be discharged.
Tang Jinzhi immediately turned to look at Xie Xiangyi, her tone firm. “I want to be discharged today!”
Xie Xiangyi thought for a moment, took out her phone to check the time, and then nodded with a complicated expression. “Okay, let’s do it today. There’s still time.”
She could go get their marriage certificate before the civil affairs bureau closed.
Tang Jinzhi’s steps toward the ward stopped. She looked back at Xie Xiangyi. “Are you in a hurry? If so, I can go back by myself.”
“…I’m not in a hurry. I just forgot to tell you something.”
“Huh?”
“Let’s talk about it when we get home.”
Xie Xiangyi looked around. There were too many people here, and it wasn’t a good place to talk.
Tang Jinzhi understood. She wanted to tell her a secret. She got it. She got it.
Once they decided on the discharge, they didn’t waste any more time.
Xie Xiangyi went to handle the discharge procedures for Tang Jinzhi.
Zhang Yueqi said goodbye to her friend reluctantly. Tang Jinzhi’s sudden discharge was something she was not ready for.
Tang Jinzhi directly ignored her resentful gaze and took the clothes Xie Xiangyi had brought along with her phone into the bathroom to change.
She had to say, Xie Xiangyi’s clothes fit her perfectly. The undergarments were new, too.
After all these days, Tang Jinzhi once again marveled at Xie Xiangyi’s thoughtfulness.
…
The discharge procedures were completed half an hour later.
Zhang Yueqi wanted to follow them home, but Xie Xiangyi said they had to go out for something and told her to come back tomorrow.
Tang Jinzhi didn’t bother with their conversation. She just told her to come visit anytime and left it at that.
Finally leaving the hospital, Tang Jinzhi felt a subtle sense of excitement and nervousness. It was a new world outside, and it was a little thrilling.
The ride was only two minutes long. Tang Jinzhi didn’t even have time to feel sentimental before the ride-hailing car arrived at the apartment building.
She got out of the car and followed Xie Xiangyi into the elevator. Remembering that Xie Xiangyi said they had to go out, she asked, “Are you going out later?”
Xie Xiangyi turned her head and looked at her. “Mhm, you are too.”
Tang Jinzhi was a little confused. “Where are we going?”
Xie Xiangyi got straight to the point: “Remember I said I forgot to tell you something?”
Tang Jinzhi’s eyes lit up, and she made a “I’m all ears” pose. “I remember, I remember. Tell me.”
She waited excitedly for Xie Xiangyi’s secret.
Xie Xiangyi’s mouth twitched. She really hoped Tang Jinzhi could keep that expression on her face later.
“We’re going to get our marriage certificate. We’re getting married.”
