Killer Queen (GL) - Chapter 15
The smell of scorched flesh permeated the air. Luo Yu understood that the little angel must have just endured torture by an iron. How could his frail body withstand such hellish, inhuman torture?
Luo Yu suddenly hesitated. She had originally come to end the little angel’s life, but now, seeing him in this state, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Moreover, she deeply disliked killing in the first place.
A hint of realization surfaced on the little angel’s face. Since Luo Yu hadn’t been captured, then… “You’re here to kill me, aren’t you?” It was a statement, not a question.
Luo Yu was slightly surprised. The little angel didn’t know her true identity, so how did he guess?
“Actually, when the masked person rescued me, I knew it was you. Although you wore a mask and your voice was different from usual, a person’s aura doesn’t change, and we were so close at the time,” the little angel’s voice was weak, as if saying one more word would exhaust all his strength.
Luo Yu’s heart trembled. Her fingers clenched tightly, and her temples throbbed. Could it be that the Luo Family has already tortured her identity out of him…? Thinking that Luo Han would be back soon, she wondered how she would endure her thunderous wrath. She might even shoot her dead in a fit of rage.
Luo Yu violently shivered. A suffocating pressure, like a mountain pressing down, overwhelmed her, making her tremble uncontrollably. Bl00d rushed into her brain, giving her a dizzy, nauseous feeling. Luo Yu was chilled to the bone and even felt unsteady on her feet.
How will Mother treat Xi Qi? Will she torture her before killing her for revenge? Dismember and abuse her? Or throw her directly into a pot of boiling magma?
“But, no matter how they tortured me, I didn’t say a word,” the little angel added slowly after a moment.
If the little angel hadn’t been so severely injured, Luo Yu would have punched him hard. Can’t you say one sentence in one breath! You have to split it into two parts and scare me half to death!
The dagger in her sleeve slipped into her palm. Luo Yu finally plucked up the courage to draw the dagger. The cold light was sharp and fierce. Slowly, step by step, she advanced.
“Do you hate me?”
The little angel could almost feel the coldness of the blade approaching his throat.
“Those people are destined not to let me go. Giving me a quick death will actually save me from more torture,” the little angel’s expression was calm, devoid of the fear of impending death. Instead, it was the peace of someone about to ascend to heaven, just like his beautiful name. There was one more thing he didn’t say aloud: to be able to die by the hands of the one he loved was also a kind of happy ending. He was already a dying man; these words had no meaning left to be spoken. Let this love be buried and dissipate with his death…
…
Luo Yu’s dagger finally swung down fiercely. The sturdy chains snapped instantly, and the little angel fell down, collapsing onto the cold stone slab.
“I’m getting you out of here,” Luo Yu’s words were calm, but to the little angel’s ears, they caused a huge uproar.
“Are you crazy?” The little angel was incredulous. “This place is heavily defended and strictly guarded. Dragging a burden like me—are you throwing your life away?”
The little angel couldn’t tell if he was more joyful or more worried. Being able to live naturally made him ecstatic, but could they really escape? Would he drag Xiao Yu down, resulting in both of them failing to survive?
“Cut the nonsense. Let’s go,” Luo Yu was not an impulsive, rash person who acted recklessly. If she intended to save someone, she would never barge in.
The Luo Family’s underground was crisscrossed with a dense network of tunnels. Luo Yu had lived here for over twenty years and was already familiar with the terrain, knowing every secret passage like the back of her hand. Whenever she got tired of the endless assassin training, she would drag Luo Shisan and Luo Shisi to secretly escape through the hidden passages and have a blast playing outside for three to five days. Even though she would be disciplined when she returned home, Luo Yu never tired of it. She never expected that these scattered and complex tunnels would actually come in handy now.
The little angel was too severely tortured. Forget about escaping; even standing up was difficult. Luo Yu had no choice but to squat down, put the little angel on her back, and crawl into the tunnel to escape the Luo Family.
Luo Yu was a girl after all. Although the little angel was not heavy, Luo Yu struggled significantly carrying him. She was soon sweating profusely and panting heavily. The worst part was that the wounds on her shoulder and waist were pressed by the person on her back. Every step was a tearing pain, and every forward step was an agony. It hurt so much that Luo Yu’s eyelids twitched, and she wanted to throw the person off her back just to stop her torment.
The little angel also noticed Luo Yu’s strain and pain. “Are you hurt? Is your wound bleeding? Put me down, I can walk myself!”
“Stop pretending to be strong. I’m fine. We’re almost there,” Luo Yu’s face was getting paler and paler.
Xiao Yu, how can you say it’s only me pretending to be strong? For you, killing me directly would have been the most rational choice.
In the dark, oppressive tunnel, the path ahead was invisible. The quiet and heavy surroundings were silent, with only Luo Yu’s slightly labored breathing audible.
After what felt like an eternity, they finally reached the end of the tunnel. Outside was a stretch of grass. The night sky was full of stars, and the air was so fresh and pleasant. The breeze blew past, carrying the fragrant scent of earth mixed with grass and trees.
Luo Yu took a deep breath. Having escaped the damp, dark, repressive, and stale air of the torture chamber and tunnel, she felt as if she had been reborn now that she was outside. Every inch of her skin seemed to cry out in comfort.
However, the person Luo Yu was most looking forward to seeing outside was one specific individual.
Xi Qi stood quietly on the grass. The breeze lifted her long black hair, which brushed against her captivating eyes, making her look like a lonely, cold, and charming enchantress under the night sky.
Though she was as cold and unapproachable as ever, Luo Yu felt a calming and reassuring strength from her—a tranquil, boundless feeling, like the vast ocean.
“Are you tired of living?” Xi Qi reprimanded her in a low voice. As soon as she received Luo Yu’s call, she knew this woman had been overcome by kindness again. She was supposed to go and kill, but she insisted on saving someone. She clearly knew the most rational decision, yet she deliberately did the opposite. Although she was an assassin, she had a strange rule against killing.
Xi Qi had encountered many assassins, but Luo Yu was the first of her kind. She was like a mist—impossible to see clearly or fathom, mysterious and strange—making others irresistibly drawn to explore her further, curious to understand her a little more. No one knew what she would do next. Her actions were never constrained by rationality. Sometimes, she would knowingly insist on doing something wrong, acting on impulse and being reckless. All of this, perhaps, was exactly where her charm lay.
“Xiao Qi, go straight to the dock and send him out to sea. The Luo Family assassins will be chasing soon. Don’t waste a single second,” Luo Yu’s expression was solemn. She knew the Luo Family’s strength all too well. If she didn’t handle this well, not only would the little angel’s life be lost, but Xi Qi might also be implicated.
“What about you?”
“I have to go back.” Back to that dark, damp, terrifying, and oppressive place. Xing Wu and Xing Liu disobeyed Mother’s orders to let me in. Since the prisoner escaped, they would bear the brunt of the responsibility, a crime punishable by death. Luo Han would surely have them cut into a thousand pieces to vent her anger. Only if I go back and face Mother’s thunderous rage, pleading for them, might I be able to save their lives.
Luo Yu never wanted to see anyone die because of her, especially since the families of Xing Wu and Xing Liu had served the Luo Family for generations. Both of them had come to the Luo Family mansion when they were five and had stayed for over a decade, making them practically family to Luo Yu. How could Luo Yu selfishly stand by and watch her family die without acting?
She had to go back. Despite thousands of reluctance and ten thousand objections, she had to return to that demonic, terrifying purgatory.
“No! You’ll only face death if you go back!” Xi Qi raised her voice, her tone decisively resolute, gripping Luo Yu’s arm tightly. “Come with me. Even if we have to wander the world, it doesn’t matter.” Even if we have to live a lifetime of displacement, hunted by the Luo Family, as long as we are together and alive, what does it matter?
“Xiao Qi, are you worried about me?” Luo Yu smiled, her spring-water eyes glistening.
“How could that be? I’m just worried you’ll drag me down,” Xi Qi refuted adamantly, her face cold.
The smile in Luo Yu’s eyes deepened. What an arrogant person.
A sudden image flashed in Luo Yu’s mind: an elegant and aloof Persian cat, wearing a crown, holding its head high with arrogance, standing on a high platform, looking down at the common people—unrivaled, yet lonely and solitary. Xiao Qi had always been a lone wolf. Does she occasionally feel lonely late at night when everything is quiet?
This loneliness was heartbreaking. Because of this heartache, Luo Yu couldn’t help but want to get closer.
“Xiao Qi.”
“What…?” Xi Qi hadn’t finished her sentence when something soft pressed against her lips. It was gentle, with a hint of lemon and a wisp of winter plum fragrance.
Luo Yu stood on her tiptoes, hugging Xi Qi’s delicate, fair neck, and licked her somewhat dry lips. The familiar cold breath, an enchanting scent.
Her tongue tentatively slipped inside like a startled fawn, entering experimentally, then timidly retreating. Inside was a fiery warmth. So, Xiao Qi wasn’t completely cold like a glacier. Could that warmth be reserved for me alone to taste?
Xi Qi was frozen in place like an ice sculpture. By the time she snapped back to her senses, Luo Yu’s figure was already gone. She only vaguely remembered Luo Yu saying, “Wait for me to come back,” before leaving.
Her brain seemed to have short-circuited, freezing in a blank state.
Xi Qi was not the only one whose mind went blank from shock. The little angel standing nearby also widened his mouth, staring dumbfounded, doubting if this was an illusion caused by his severe injuries. The little angel looked up at the sky and smiled bitterly. So, she has already fallen in love with someone else. In that case, can I at least stay quietly by your side, watching you from afar?
