Killer Queen (GL) - Chapter 5
The bullet missed the target again. Luo Yu fired six shots; the first four missed, the fifth hit the nine-ring, and the sixth flew wide again.
Luo Han glared at her fiercely, angry at her lack of improvement. “Hold the gun steady! Lower your stance! Straighten your waist! Bend your knees! Control your breathing!” With every phrase Luo Han spoke, a whip landed on the corresponding spot, striking Luo Yu’s arm, waist, and thigh heavily.
Luo Yu gasped, lowering her head. I’ll endure this!
Another shot, and the bullet flew wide again!
Luo Han’s expression became even gloomier. “Ten years! Even a pig would have learned by now!”
Luo Yu laughed out of sheer exasperation and retorted, “It proves that I’m fundamentally not cut out to be an assassin! Are you finally giving up? Why do you insist on trying to make a pillar out of rotten wood!”
A slap struck her face. Luo Yu clutched her cheek and stepped back two paces, her expression turning unpleasant. Can’t we talk things out properly? Why do you always resort to physical violence as soon as we meet! And with a whip too—who are you trying to scare!
“Bring the people up,” Luo Han commanded, turning away and not bothering to look at Luo Yu.
Just as Luo Yu felt confused, Luo Twenty-six and others were brought forward, bound with their hands behind their backs.
Luo Yu’s face immediately turned pale. She remembered Luo Forty-seven from before; the Luo family never kept useless trash.
“You do it. Kill them, just like last time,” Luo Han commanded mercilessly.
Luo Yu did not reach out for the handgun Luo Thirteen offered. She simply kept her head down, her expression unclear, and asked, “Why?” Luo Yu knew she was asking the obvious; she just wanted to stall for time.
“They couldn’t even kill a gray-haired old man. It’s the same rule: the Luo family does not keep useless trash.” Luo Han’s words were ice-cold, devoid of pity. In her eyes, killing was the most normal thing.
Luo Yu still didn’t take the gun. Her hands trembled slightly.
“You’ll get used to this kind of thing. Didn’t you do well last time too?” Luo Han used a rare gentle tone; she seldom praised anyone. She knew Luo Yu was afraid of killing, so she was slowly making her accustomed to it, step by step.
Luo Yu shook her head, biting her lip tightly. She had deliberately left Luo Twenty-six and the others a path to survival, yet she still couldn’t prevent their fate of being killed. Everything she did was to try and save lives, so why did it end up with more people dying? She didn’t want to stain her hands with bl00d, yet she was becoming more deeply burdened by sin. Was this her inescapable destiny?
“They are not entirely useless. Isn’t Luo Thirty-five very good at marksmanship? Let him teach me how to shoot; don’t kill him.” Luo Yu frantically searched her mind for a reason to spare them.
“How do you know his marksmanship is good?” The moment Luo Han spoke, Luo Yu broke out in a cold sweat.
How did I know? Because she had secretly looked at the confidential file. In an instant, Luo Yu’s mind raced, thousands of thoughts spinning. She had to come up with a lie that wouldn’t be seen through or exposed.
“Luo Thirteen told me. They were in the same class at the assassin camp, and at the time, Thirty-five had the best shooting skills among everyone.” Cold sweat trickled down her back, and Luo Yu’s heart pounded like a drum.
Luo Thirteen wondered, Did I tell the Young Mistress this? I don’t recall. However, despite his doubts, he didn’t say anything more, continuing to lower his head and maintain silence.
Luo Han didn’t press the matter further. Luo Yu secretly breathed a sigh of relief. That was truly too close.
“How about this: 50-meter range, five wine bottles. As long as I can hit one, release them. If all five miss, it won’t be too late to kill them then.” Luo Yu racked her brain to save the three of them, especially since their failure was entirely due to her actions.
Luo Thirteen sighed slightly. Based on the Young Mistress’s skill level, she wouldn’t hit even one, even with ten wine bottles.
Luo Han didn’t object. With a wave of her hand, the servants immediately brought out five bottles of brandy, which were placed neatly on a shelf fifty meters away.
Luo Yu pouted, What a waste! Fine brandy used as shooting targets.
“Bang… Bang… Bang… Bang…”
Four shots missed. Not one hit. The five bottles of brandy remained perfectly intact in their places. Luo Thirteen sighed; it was exactly as he predicted. Luo Han frowned and kicked Luo Yu in the waist.
“Take this seriously and aim! This is infuriating! This kind of idiot absolutely cannot be my own child!”
Luo Yu rubbed her waist. That was a seriously hard kick. She cursed internally, Which eye saw that I wasn’t being serious? I was very seriously trying to deliberately miss the target without letting anyone realize it was intentional!
It was the last bullet.
The moment of life and death had arrived. Luo Twenty-six and the others closed their eyes in despair. It wasn’t that they didn’t trust the Young Mistress, but they knew her capabilities all too well.
Luo Yu’s hand trembled even more violently. If this bullet missed, the three men would lose their lives. Luo Yu seemed terrified and desperate. She simply closed her eyes, not daring to look anymore. With a bang, the gun fired. Simultaneously, the sound of glass shattering arose, spilling liquid all over the floor.
Luo Yu opened her eyes, an expression of disbelief on her face. Her whole body felt weak, and she could no longer support herself. Her legs gave way, and she slumped onto the ground, gasping for air in deep breaths.
Not only was Luo Yu in disbelief, but Luo Thirteen and the others also had astonished expressions. Luo Twenty-six and his companions were overjoyed. Even the usually emotionless Luo Han was slightly surprised.
In an instant, however, Luo Han regained her cold and indifferent expression. Seeing Luo Yu fallen to the ground and looking utterly defeated, she found her even more displeasing and mocked, “Just a blind cat catching a dead mouse.”
Luo Yu couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly. Isn’t that accurate? This analogy is perfect. She had indeed fired with her eyes closed, so wasn’t she a blind cat? However, she hadn’t just gotten lucky; she had complete confidence in her ability to hit the bottle with her eyes closed.
Luo Han suddenly pulled out her handgun. With four bang shots, she fired four consecutive bullets, all hitting the bottles opposite, without missing any. What was more impressive was that while Luo Yu’s shot shattered the bottle, Luo Han’s bullets merely pierced through them. The bottles remained intact, with only a bullet hole from which the liquor slowly oozed out.
This time, it was Luo Yu’s turn to be shocked. Sure enough, her mother’s skill was genuine and absolutely not on the same level as her own. Although Luo Yu deliberately concealed her ability in front of others, even if she showed her full skill, she could never do what Luo Han just did—hit the bottle without breaking it, or even causing the slightest tremor.
Regardless, the three unlucky men were finally saved. The huge weight hanging over Luo Yu’s heart had finally dropped.
Luo Yu’s good mood lasted only a moment before being immediately dashed by a single sentence from Luo Han.
“Keep practicing! If you don’t hit the bullseye, you won’t sleep tonight!”
Luo Yu gave a wry smile. Life is fcking playing games with me again!*
The sky gradually darkened. Soon after, it started to rain. Luo Yu had been practicing continuously for four hours, focusing on how to miss the bullseye without arousing suspicion from those around her. Luo Yu sighed. Why am I wasting my time on this kind of nonsense?
It was already winter. The rain soaked her body and wet her hair. When the wind blew, it made her shiver from the cold. But without her mother’s command, she couldn’t rest. If she ran back inside to hide from the rain, Luo Han would surely scold her, saying that if she couldn’t endure a little rain, she wasn’t fit to be an assassin. The outcome would probably be worse than the present situation. Therefore, even though she was shivering all over, Luo Yu obediently continued to practice missing the target, only complaining endlessly in her heart.
She practiced in the rain for at least two hours before Luo Han finally sent word, telling Luo Yu to return inside and rest. Of course, Luo Yu hadn’t hit the bullseye once that entire day.
Luo Yu returned to the house, dried her hair, changed into dry clothes, turned off the lights, and lay down on the bed. Although she was very tired and exhausted from practicing all day, she didn’t sleep. She just kept her eyes open, staring out the window.
What is Xi Qi doing right now? Without me by her side, and without many friends, will she feel bored or lonely?
The night was already very deep. All sounds ceased, and it was pitch black outside. The digital clock on the nightstand showed 2:00 AM.
Luo Yu suddenly flipped out of bed. As if sleepwalking, she opened the door and walked out. The surroundings were very quiet, and Luo Yu’s footsteps were very light, as if she were stepping on cotton, making no sound at all.
Her eyes, however, sparkled, emitting a brilliant light like a luminous pearl. Luo Yu carefully controlled her breathing, trying not to break the surrounding stillness.
Luo Yu arrived at Luo Han’s study. The study door was tightly locked. Luo Yu pulled out a wire, inserted it, fiddled with it a few times, and the door unlocked. Luo Yu vigilantly looked behind her, then gently pushed the door open, slipped inside, and closed and locked the door behind her.
Luo Yu’s lock-picking skills were taught by Xi Qi. She often forgot her dorm key and would be locked outside. After this happened several times, Xi Qi simply taught Luo Yu the skill of picking locks. Luo Yu was naturally a quick learner, understanding everything instantly. She mastered Xi Qi’s unique skill in half a month. Luo Yu was actually a little moved by Xi Qi’s lack of reservation, since for an assassin, mastering an extra skill meant an extra chance of survival. Some seemingly insignificant abilities could sometimes be life-saving.
Luo Yu didn’t turn on the light and went straight to Luo Han’s desk. She was too familiar with this study—so familiar that she could find anything with her eyes closed.
Luo Yu put on gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints. She always made sure her actions were foolproof and left no flaws.
She turned on the computer on the desk. The pale white light glowed faintly, like a ghost fire in the night. Luo Yu’s heart pounded fast. Doing such sneaky things was always frightening; she was afraid of suddenly being caught in the act and exposed.
As the head of the Luo family, Luo Han’s computer had the highest access authority. The Luo family’s high-level secrets were stored in this computer. Luo Yu searched and queried step by step, gradually approaching her target, and finally found the intelligence for the next operation—an AA-level confidential document. In the Luo family, the highest level of confidentiality was AAA, such as Luo Yu’s status as Young Mistress, Luo Yi’s past background, and his specialty weapons. This showed that Luo Han regarded the next operation with extreme seriousness.
Just when Luo Yu thought the information was within reach and just a click away, a password box suddenly popped up on the page. Only by solving the password could she see all the information about the next operation. Luo Yu slightly frowned, unconsciously biting her lower lip. The password box required eight digits, and a warning stated that she could only try three times. If she failed all three times, the alarm would sound. That meant if Luo Yu failed three times, she would be completely finished.
