Killer Queen (GL) - Chapter 7
“How did you suddenly get so sick?” Xi Qi put her own quilt over Luo Yu, practically wrapping her into a ball of flesh.
“It’s hot,” Luo Yu complained.
Xi Qi ignored Luo Yu’s dissatisfaction and covered her even more tightly with the quilt. “You have to sweat it out for the fever to break.”
“Didn’t it pour heavily last night? I was drenched for at least two hours.” Thinking of last night’s events, Luo Yu was filled with anger. If she hadn’t been rained on for two whole hours in the chilling wind last night, and then hid under the desk, terrified and breaking out in a cold sweat, why would she be sick today?
“What were you doing?”
“Practicing my marksmanship.”
“Isn’t your marksmanship already excellent? That sniper wasn’t your match the other day either.” Xi Qi was referring to Luo Thirty-Five.
“I’m diligent and hardworking, you know.”
Xi Qi smiled. Who was she trying to fool? How could someone who slept until the sun was high in the sky practice marksmanship diligently in a downpour? However, she understood that Luo Yu’s jesting and not revealing the truth naturally meant she had her own difficulties, so she didn’t press further. She had no intention of prying into Luo Yu’s identity and secrets anyway.
Luo Yu, however, stared at Xi Qi blankly, as if her mind was elsewhere. After a long while, she snapped out of it, “Xiao Qi, you actually smiled just now.” Xi Qi had always been composed and calm, so detached that she seemed indifferent to everything external, and so cool that she never experienced great joy or sorrow, with nothing able to stir her emotions. Suppressing herself fiercely and masking all emotions. As a competent assassin, one must always maintain rationality and calmness, never allowing any attachment or entanglement. This was the education Xi Qi received from a young age. Smiling was a foreign expression to her. Rejecting all emotions, like a killing machine, though she didn’t suffer, she had never experienced happiness either.
The allure of a meteor lies in its fleeting nature. The wonder of the Epiphyllum lies in its momentary splendor. Xi Qi’s smile was the same; in the blink of an eye, she reverted to her usual cold, indifferent demeanor, as if everything just now had been Luo Yu’s illusion.
“Oh, right, I suddenly thought of something. Xiao Qi, have you heard of a top assassin with the code name ‘Seven Kills’ (Qisha)?” Luo Yu stared intently at Xi Qi’s face, hoping to glean some clue from the subtle expressions on her face. After all, they were just chatting and laughing; now, with a sudden change of subject, she unexpectedly threw out this question. If Xi Qi’s true identity really was “Seven Kills,” there would definitely be a moment of surprise.
Luo Yu didn’t miss any expression on Xi Qi’s face. Unfortunately, Xi Qi’s expression could only be described with four words: “completely expressionless,” calm as usual, without revealing any hint.
“Of course, I’ve heard of her. She is the second-ranked assassin on the assassins’ list. Anyone in our line of work would have heard her name.” Her tone was flat, as if merely stating a well-known fact.
“Is that so?” Luo Yu sighed. Could she have guessed wrong? But Xi Qi, who exactly are you? What kind of glory did your past hold?
For a long time after that, the Luo family had no further action, and Luo Yu and the others were naturally idle, observing the situation.
Xi Qi and Luo Yu continued to play the role of ordinary university students, going through the routine of class, the cafeteria, and the dorm room every day. Life was like plain water, uneventful. However, Xi Qi’s cold beauty ensured that the days wouldn’t be completely calm. Many boys confessed their feelings to Xi Qi, but her aura was too powerful, keeping people at a distance, chillingly intimidating. These young men had no choice but to hand their love letters to Luo Yu, asking her to pass them on. Luo Yu wasn’t the type to do things for free, so she naturally collected quite a few favors, and their dorm room was filled with a pile of teddy bears. Xi Qi, of course, paid no attention to these love letters and threw them directly into the trash can. Luo Yu, in front of Xi Qi, picked them out of the trash can, opened and read them, and even deliberately read out the good sentences to Xi Qi. As a result, Xi Qi remained indifferent and unfazed, while Luo Yu herself got goosebumps from the nauseatingly sweet words.
Xi Qi was always cold and spoke little, but the colder she was, the more her admirers pursued her, like moths drawn to a flame, heedless of the consequences. There was even a small incident where a boy, so deeply infatuated with Xi Qi, threatened to jump off a building. He hovered on the ledge of the rooftop, declaring that if Xi Qi wouldn’t date him, he would jump. When others rushed to tell Xi Qi, she didn’t even blink, remaining as cold and merciless as ever, merely saying, “It has nothing to do with me.” In the end, the others had to turn their eyes to Luo Yu for help, as she was the only one in the school with a somewhat decent relationship with Xi Qi. Luo Yu waved her hand, saying she had no power to command Xi Qi. If Xi Qi didn’t want to do something, she absolutely wouldn’t, even with a knife held to her throat. The final outcome was that Luo Yu was dragged out by a group of people to persuade the distressed boy.
Compared to Xi Qi’s coldness and aloofness, Luo Yu seemed much more approachable and easy to get along with. Not long after arriving at the school, she had already become close with her classmates, almost indistinguishable from any ordinary girl. It must be said that Luo Yu was very good at disguising herself. No one would believe that Luo Yu came from a family of assassins; she was so friendly and candid that no one would suspect that such a person was the mastermind behind “July 15th” (Qiyue Shiwu).
Recently, this dark horse force, “July 15th,” had become the hottest topic in the assassin world. Daring to oppose the Luo assassin family, daring to compete with the Luo family for targets, and successfully intercepting the Luo family’s missions twice—all these glorious achievements had made “July 15th” famous. Insiders were speculating about the force behind “July 15th” and the identity of its members.
The worth of “July 15th” members also skyrocketed overnight. Many targets who were being pursued by assassins from other organizations actively sought them out, offering high prices for “July 15th” to take the job. Luo Yu was bored and restless, so she instructed Yue Ye to accept a few assignments. With Luo Yu and Xi Qi’s skills, the previous assassins from the Luo family were no match for them, let alone the assassins from other minor, insignificant organizations. Although the intelligence was sparse, Luo Yu and Xi Qi handled the cases smoothly, with no failures, and the employers were quite satisfied. In a short time, “July 15th” gained great fame, like a dazzling new star in the assassin world. At the same time, it also offended many organizations. Luo Yu and the others even entered the top fifty on the bounty list; anyone who successfully assassinated a member of “July 15th” would receive a reward of five million US dollars.
