Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 10
Song Man was bewildered to see Chu Fengqiu at her house.
Why was Chu Fengqiu here?
“You’re back?”
Xu Qinglang had initially been anxious and upset, but after waiting for so long, he had gradually calmed down.
“Yeah.”
Song Man looked at her dad’s expression and nodded hesitantly.
She had skipped school for a whole day today, but it couldn’t be that serious, could it?
“Sit.”
Song Man sat down obediently, in a standard elementary school student posture.
“We’ve spoiled her too much. From now on, I’ll have to trouble you, Student Chu, to keep her in line. You’re the same age, so you should be able to talk to each other.”
Xu Qinglang looked at Chu Fengqiu, who nodded.
“Wait, why is she at our house?”
Song Man felt she needed to understand this question first.
Even Chu Fengqiu found the story behind it a bit surprising.
Xu Qinglang was an old friend of Chu Fengqiu’s father. When Chu Fengqiu’s family was going through a difficult time, he had lent a hand. He had watched Chu Fengqiu grow up, and although they weren’t extremely close, they had always kept in touch.
Xu Qinglang had mentioned his worries about his daughter’s studies to his old friend. Chu Fengqiu’s father said that his daughter’s grades were excellent and she should be able to help.
But Xu Qinglang had always felt awkward about bothering them. After all, he could hire a tutor; there was no need to trouble his old friend’s child.
However, Song Man was a complete troublemaker. She had countless ways to find fault and drive tutors out of the house, and she had managed to make Song Zici stop arranging tutors for her.
Xu Qinglang had finally seen Song Man get into a good class, and his heart hadn’t even settled for a day before Song Man skipped school.
And she skipped for a whole day.
Xu Qinglang was almost overcome with anxiety.
Even if Song Man didn’t need to inherit the family business, she couldn’t keep messing around like this.
So Xu Qinglang brought gifts and visited his old friend.
He knew that Chu Fengqiu was the top student in the grade, and he also knew that Chu Fengqiu was now Song Man’s deskmate.
When Xu Qinglang visited, his old friend said he was being too polite and that he would help in any way he could.
It happened that his old friend was going out for research, and Chu Fengqiu’s mother was a teacher stationed abroad for the Confucius Institute, rarely home.
Thus, it was a perfect match, killing two birds with one stone.
This was why Song Man saw Chu Fengqiu at her house.
After listening, Song Man felt a headache coming on.
“You’re the daughter of Uncle Chu that my dad talks about?”
Song Man had heard about this Uncle Chu’s daughter from her dad many times, but she had only heard the name and never met the person. She hadn’t expected it to be Chu Fengqiu.
This damn “child from another family.”
“Unless there’s a mistake, it should be me.”
Chu Fengqiu nodded.
If the other person hadn’t been Song Man, Chu Fengqiu wouldn’t have agreed so easily or even come to Song Man’s house.
She had waited for Song Man at school all day today, not expecting Song Man wouldn’t come to school at all.
Chu Fengqiu didn’t think Song Man was someone who held grudges easily; it was unlikely she would skip class just because she wasn’t allowed to play on her phone during self-study.
But she didn’t have Song Man’s contact information and wasn’t very familiar with her, so she didn’t even have a way or the right to ask.
Chu Fengqiu had only heard of Uncle Xu from her father. When she met him tonight, she was a bit surprised.
She had seen this person before, yesterday when Song Man changed classes.
So when Xu Qinglang explained his purpose and her father looked at her, she agreed decisively.
There was something about Song Man that made her want to explore, something hidden beneath that indifferent exterior, a magic that made one want to delve deeper.
“Dad, you’re going to arrange this for me?”
Song Man looked distressed.
“Come with me to the study. Xiao Qiu, you can go see your room first. Housekeeper Liu will take you. It’s next to Manman’s room.”
Chu Fengqiu nodded and watched Song Man follow Xu Qinglang to the study.
“Manman, I know you’re not happy about this, but you have to accept it this time.”
Xu Qinglang tapped the desk.
Song Man pulled a long face and didn’t speak.
“Dad is doing this for your own good. Your future is yours. Your mother and I can’t protect you forever, and neither can your sister.”
“Your future will be your own. No matter what path you take, you need to study to walk it. Dad doesn’t expect you to become incredibly outstanding, but I hope you have the desire to change.”
“Fengqiu is a good child. Dad says she’s good not just because she has good grades, but also because she’s very disciplined. There are many things worth learning from her.”
Xu Qinglang spoke several heartfelt sentences. Song Man’s face showed some hesitation.
She really wanted to tell her dad that she was actually very good at studying, but she didn’t want to break this peace.
If she wanted to expose it, she would have done so back then.
She knew her parents genuinely liked Song Qinglan, they just didn’t always focus their attention on her. She also knew her mother doted on her, but when it came to the heir, her mother had long planned for Song Qinglan.
Song Man didn’t want to compete. Sometimes she even felt sorry for Song Qinglan.
Her feelings for Song Qinglan were too complex, a mix of filial affection, trust, pity, dislike, and suspicion, which couldn’t be summarized in a few simple words.
“Dad saying all this isn’t just to praise Fengqiu, but to hope you can accept her and be friends with her.”
“Got it.”
Ahhhhh, having an extra supervisor is so annoying.
“Our Manman is so smart, she’ll learn everything quickly.”
Xu Qinglang patted Song Man’s shoulder, looking at the princess he had doted on since she was little, with encouragement on his face.
They say fatherly love is like a mountain, but for Song Man, it wasn’t. Her dad was like rain, nourishing silently.
Motherly love being like water was true, but her mother was a flood.
“Do I still have to live at school?”
Song Man remembered this question.
“No need. From now on, you’ll live at home with Fengqiu, go out together and come back together. Understand?”
“Got it,” Song Man said reluctantly.
When she came out of the study, Song Man saw Chu Fengqiu standing by the door next to hers.
The girl was slender and tall, with skin as fair as warm jade. She looked gentle but not weak, and her eyes conveyed kindness.
No wonder Song Man had thought Chu Fengqiu was a saint back then. With a pair of wings and a Magic Fairy Wand, Chu Fengqiu would truly be a fairy herself, unlike her, who could perform black magic at any moment.
“I’ll be troubling you from now on.”
Chu Fengqiu smiled on the surface, but felt a bit awkward inside.
For some reason, whenever she faced Song Man, she felt like she lost her ability to speak, and whatever she said sounded dry and awkward, yet she didn’t know how to say it better.
“It’s fine, we can discuss things if needed.”
Song Man shrugged and opened her door.
Well, Chu Fengqiu was good-looking, which could cut her anger in half.
Song Man thought this way until she woke up the next morning.
A knocking sound made Song Man want to curse in annoyance.
Song Man opened the door with a murderous look, her face full of irritation.
“What are you knocking for so early in the morning?”
“Um… if you don’t get up soon, you’ll be late.”
The gentle voice made Song Man jolt. Who the heck was this?
Song Man was slow for a moment before she remembered. She irritably scratched her head, stomped her slippers loudly, and started rummaging for clothes.
Chu Fengqiu took the opportunity to see Song Man’s room. Large areas of sky blue made it look exceptionally fresh, with a lively, girlish style.
Song Man found the clothes she wanted to wear and took off her pajamas.
Chu Fengqiu saw the girl’s smooth back and beautiful waistline and immediately closed the door.
How could she be so unguarded? Someone she wasn’t very familiar with hadn’t even left, and the door wasn’t even closed yet, Chu Fengqiu thought with some worry.
