Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 23
Song Man didn’t have music in her earphones, but she was too lazy to take them off. Her pen tip scratched across the paper.
She was stuck. Frowning, she crossed out her previous step, looking at the function graph and analysis she had drawn.
Where did she go wrong?
The more complex and computationally intensive a problem was, the harder it was to work backward and verify.
Song Man stopped writing, realizing she must have made a mistake somewhere earlier. The result she calculated didn’t match her expectation.
Song Man stretched her neck and suddenly heard footsteps.
She instinctively turned her head, then quickly took off her earphones.
Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap, holy crap, holy crap, holy crap!
Why was Chu Fengqiu here?!
Chu Fengqiu was about to walk over, and her paper and pen were still on the table.
What to do, what to do, what to do! Should she swallow the paper like Little Swallow?!
Impossible!
But her head could be chopped off, bl00d could flow, but her identity must never be revealed!
The nearest trash can was a bit far. Song Man stood up to block the table, put the pen in her pocket, folded the paper on the table, opened the coffee lid, and threw the paper inside.
Just as she threw it in, Chu Fengqiu walked up beside her.
“Oh, you’re here too? What a coincidence.”
Song Man gave an awkward laugh instinctively.
“Why did you suddenly skip class?”
When Chu Fengqiu saw Song Man hadn’t returned to class, she was actually a little angry, angry that Song Man had just run out of class without a word. But after being angry for a while, she calmed down. It wasn’t a big deal, really. Still, when she found Song Man, she wanted to ask.
“What reason could there be for skipping class? Just didn’t feel like going.”
Song Man shrugged.
At least it wasn’t constipation.
Song Man didn’t want others to discover her secret, so it was naturally impossible for her to do problems in class. She also didn’t want to do problems in the school bathroom while struggling to breathe. Skipping class was, of course, the optimal choice.
Chu Fengqiu frowned, wanting to say something, but she opened her mouth and found she had nothing to say.
In fact, she was very conflicted now.
Because she wasn’t sure if Song Man was genuinely bad at studying or just pretending.
If Song Man was acting this way, then she would definitely have to be strict with Song Man. But if she was strict, Song Man would definitely be unhappy.
She didn’t want this person to have any dissatisfaction with her.
“What’s in the cup?”
Chu Fengqiu saw something floating in the coffee and changed the subject.
“Ah… nothing important. Do you want something to drink? I’ll treat you.”
“No need. I was planning to go home and find you anyway.”
“Then let’s go back together for lunch. We can come back after the lunch break.”
Song Man picked up the trash, shoved her phone into her pocket, hooked her arm around Chu Fengqiu’s shoulder, and walked out.
The cup contained the calculation process she had been working on for a while. Although it was a bit of a shame to get it dirty and throw it away like this, fortunately, the solution method was already imprinted in her mind, and there was a mistake on it anyway, so redoing it back home wasn’t a big deal.
Chu Fengqiu was hooked by her shoulder, her eyes lingering on the cup.
She had a feeling her guess was likely correct.
But if Song Man didn’t say anything, she would have to play along.
If she went easy, the other person would think she wasn’t responsible. If she didn’t go easy, the other person would be unhappy.
Chu Fengqiu was caught in a dilemma.
Song Man, however, was unaware of her internal struggle. She tossed the trash into the bin and happily took Chu Fengqiu home.
However, her happiness stopped when she saw Xu Qinglang sitting on the sofa.
“Dad, why are you home for lunch? Aren’t you at the company with Mom?”
Song Man grinned and leaned over, only to be tapped on the head by Xu Qinglang.
“Your teacher told me you skipped class again, didn’t she?”
“Oh, come on, I’m already this old. Why are you still tattling?”
Song Man felt a bit exasperated.
Her dad might be serious this time, even bothering to come home just to talk about this.
“Manman, Dad wants you to know that your mother and I made this decision not for you to find a new environment to play in. You, this child, sigh.”
Seeing her dad sigh, Song Man felt bad too.
“Can you please study and attend classes properly from now on? You’re already in your second year of high school. You only have two years until the Gaokao. Although Mom and Dad can use connections to send you abroad, are you planning to just play around your whole life?”
Xu Qinglang didn’t even specifically call Song Man to the study or avoid Chu Fengqiu, clearly intending for Song Man to face the current situation.
Song Man looked at Xu Qinglang, her lips moving slightly.
“I have my own plans.”
“What plans? Tell me.”
Song Man didn’t know how to explain.
Sometimes she really wished she could just confront Song Qinglan directly, tear off the facade, break through that layer of paper. But what good would getting the answer do?
Song Man especially didn’t want her dad to know about this. How sad he would be.
Xu Qinglang had a gentle nature, the kind of person who was very easy to talk to, gentle and handsome, with a sensitive heart.
Song Man would bet her dad was the most sensitive person among their family of four. And her dad treated Song Qinglan like his own daughter. While other families told siblings to yield to the younger ones, Xu Qinglang had told her since childhood to yield to her older sister because her sister had lost something she could never get back.
So Song Man would rather use this method to make everything work out.
In her heart, Song Qinglan had also taken care of her for over ten years, a sister she had genuinely lived with for over ten years.
She was too lazy to even figure out what Song Qinglan was thinking now. She wasn’t interested in the family business at all. This method, used for a long time, wasn’t so bad either. It was much more free and easy.
Song Man relaxed her furrowed brow. Forget it, forget it. She had set up this persona, so she had to keep going with it.
She’d think about it when she really couldn’t do it anymore.
Song Man didn’t say anything. Xu Qinglang stood up and ruffled Song Man’s hair.
“Manman, be good and listen.”
“Got it.”
Song Man drew out her voice, sounding a bit reluctant.
“Dad, stop messing it up. You’re ruining my hair.”
Song Man escaped from Xu Qinglang’s hand and smoothed her hair. Chu Fengqiu was nearby, watching Song Man’s hair get ruffled, the strands fluffy, looking like they felt nice to touch.
Chu Fengqiu’s fingers twitched, then she reflected on what she was even thinking.
After lunch, Song Man went back to her room for a nap. The air conditioning had already been turned on by the housekeeper when she returned, filling the room with coolness. Song Man slumped into a chair and only picked up her phone several minutes later.
She went into Question Bank, reviewed the solution to the problem she had just been working on, and saw the “Answer Successful” message. Song Man let out a soft sigh of relief. When she exited the Difficult Problems section, she saw that Ah Q was PK-ing with Lingnan.
She immediately perked up, sat up straight, and watched her phone.
When Chu Fengqiu opened her phone, she found several messages from Liu Bai, roughly saying that Lingnan wanted to have a PK match with her.
This didn’t seem like a big deal. Since Chu Fengqiu had time now, she decided to go on Question Bank and check it out.
She wasn’t really familiar with Lingnan. She felt very sorry for this girl who was once brilliant but was now unwell.
When Chu Fengqiu checked, Lingnan was still live-streaming, but she wasn’t doing problems. There were practice books on the desk, soothing background music played, and Lingnan was listening to the music with her eyes closed.
Even just watching through the screen, one could see the fading vitality.
Chu Fengqiu sent a bullet comment to say hello, and the previously quiet comments suddenly became lively.
【Lingnan open your eyes!!! Q-Shen is here!!!】
【Lingnan get up and do problems!】
【Did anyone add Lingnan as a friend? Send some pop-ups or something to let her know.】
【Me, me, me, I’ll do it!】
Half a minute later, Lingnan was startled awake by the message notification sound. After seeing the messages, she smiled at the camera.
“Hi Q-Shen, I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m feeling okay now, want to have a PK match?”
Chu Fengqiu typed her agreement, exited the live stream, and waited for the PK invitation.
【Lingnan】: What subject?
【Ah Q】: Anything except Chinese and integrated humanities.
【Lingnan】: Pfft, you say the exact same thing as A Man.
Chu Fengqiu didn’t deny it. Both she and A Man were science students, so they naturally wouldn’t spend time PK-ing liberal arts content.
Lingnan chose math.
Chu Fengqiu looked at the problem board, not rushing to start, but first scanning through from beginning to end.
Song Man entered Question Bank just as Ah Q started writing. She watched with great interest for a while.
This person was always so unhurried, unlike her who just dove in with her pen.
After watching for a while, she switched over to Lingnan’s side.
Speaking of which, Song Man hadn’t really studied Lingnan’s problem-solving methods and style. She wasn’t the type of person who liked to know herself and her enemy to win every battle. After all, doing problems wasn’t fighting a war; being able to solve them and having enough skill was enough.
When she first came to Question Bank, Song Man just did whatever she felt like doing. If she liked PK-ing, she would go PK, regardless of others’ skill levels. She liked challenging strong opponents, the stronger the better, which was why she challenged Lingnan back then.
Just as the bullet comments said, Lingnan and Ah Q’s problem-solving styles had about a third similarity.
However, Lingnan’s method was more systematic and suitable for the general public. She would group related problems together, which allowed her thinking to fully diverge and even use a step from one problem to inspire another.
Ah Q, on the other hand, would simply judge the difficulty, do the easy ones first, and then tackle the relatively difficult ones, breaking them down one by one.
Song Man took out paper and pen and did the problems along with their strokes. By the time they finished, Song Man was done too. She tore up the scratch paper and threw it into the trash can.
The winner was decided. Song Man saw the result and wasn’t surprised.
Ah Q lost.
Song Man actually knew the outcome when she saw the types of the ten problems.
She had competed with Ah Q many times. She knew Ah Q’s weak points. Ah Q wasn’t best at problems involving motion in analytical geometry. It wasn’t that she couldn’t do them; in the eyes of ordinary people, she was still very good, but for Song Man, her thinking speed would be much slower.
Ah Q was better at functions, something Song Man knew she couldn’t match for now.
Among these ten problems, four were related to analytical geometry, and two involved variables. Comparing the time the two spent on these problems, Ah Q clearly took longer.
If the PK problems they drew had been mostly function problems, then Ah Q would have definitely won.
The bullet comments were celebrating.
【Ahhhhh I almost cried with joy seeing Lingnan win. Lingnan accompanied me through that difficult and boring phase of doing problems. I really hope she can keep winning.】
【Lingnan is sick and Q-Shen still can’t beat her…?】
【I’m really fed up with some people in the comments. Why are you guys so hard to please? A Man beat Lingnan, and you said she was unreasonable and cold-hearted. Q-Shen lost, and now you’re chattering about whether her skill isn’t enough, that she can’t even beat a sick person.】
【Sister above, don’t be so agitated, okay? It’s just doing problems.】
Song Man thought for a moment and sent a bullet comment.
【A Man: In the realm of ability, a temporary win or loss can never determine anything. There are wins and losses, it’s normal. Knowing what you’ve mastered and what your weaknesses are is the most important thing.】
Chu Fengqiu also saw this sentence. She knew her opponent definitely understood her weakness and curved her lips.
【My Man parachuting in! Caught!】
【I’ll drink this chicken soup from the big shot!】
【After drinking the chicken soup, I cried looking at the problems I wrote randomly.】
【Looking at the big shots doing problems and then looking at us doing problems, oh my god, is this the derivation process a human can write?】
【Sister above, your Chinese is good, a double entendre.】
【Is Man Shen speaking up for Q-Shen? Hahaha, I feel a hint of sweetness!】
【Man Shen and Q-Shen, want to have a PK match?!】
【Lingnan: I was going to tell you guys in the comments not to argue, but A Man spoke first. It’s normal to have wins and losses in this kind of thing. As long as you know which problems you can solve and which you can’t, that’s enough. Thank you very much, Ah Q, for PK-ing with me.】
Lingnan sent a long bullet comment. She was also a top player in Question Bank, and her name would appear in the comment box.
【Lingnan: They’re asking if you two want to PK. What do you two think?】
There was still enough time before class. Song Man readily agreed.
Chu Fengqiu raised an eyebrow looking at the screen and typed a ‘Okay’.
【Lingnan: I feel really happy and fortunate today. I’ve sparred with two masters and can also witness two masters sparring.】
【Lingnan, just wait and see Man Shen’s amazing show! Question Bank’s number one straight man requests to battle!】
【The romance between top students is battling!】
【Lock this battle down for me!】
【I can’t wait, I can’t hold back my pen!】
【My Wu San is ready!】
【Huanggang Secret Scrolls request to battle!】
【Xiaoti Kuangzuo requests to battle!】
【Innovation Practice should have a name!】
【I… I didn’t bring my practice book!】
【Brother above, thumbs down. How can a qualified Question Bank person not carry a practice book at all times?】
【I didn’t bring problems either, but I have problems in my heart even without them in hand!】
Song Man was amused by the bullet comments. She messaged Ah Q, asking what they should compete in.
【Ah Q】: The usual?
【A Man】: Let’s go.
When they usually didn’t know what to compete in, they would roll dice. Whatever came up, they’d do that.
The result was English.
【A Man】: Let’s do it.
Song Man flexed her fingers, ready for a big fight later.
Her English was genuinely good. She often traveled abroad when she was young and had foreign friends, which laid a solid foundation for her English, making it easy to learn. Moreover, English speed tests purely tested vocabulary, grammar, and reading speed; there were no essay questions.
【Seeing them compete in English, I’m ready to lie flat.】
【I’ve already thrown away my Wu San.】
【What use is this Huanggang Secret Scroll to me!】
【This is a newbie who just joined Question Bank. I want to ask the brothers why they’re giving up. Aren’t you going to do problems along with them?】
【Newbie, you’ll know why in a bit.】
【If only I could see clearly…】
【Give me a pair of discerning eyes, let me see clearly and plainly.】
【You are my eyes~~~】
【They haven’t competed in English for a long time. I finally waited for this day. It’s time to practice my speed reading!】
3.
2.
1.
Start!
Song Man scanned the question and clicked the option, scanned and clicked. The early multiple-choice questions weren’t difficult. Two or three seconds per question was no problem. If it weren’t for the system needing to load between questions, Song Man could have been even faster.
Because she was competing against her strongest and most familiar opponent, Song Man completely shut out external distractions and focused entirely, her eyes and mind only on the problem she was currently solving.
【Oh my god, I’m a little dizzy. It scared me into leaving the screen to recover.】
【I used to think I only got dizzy from milk. After coming to Question Bank, I found I also get dizzy from problems.】
【Brother upstairs has a story!!】
【Who am I, where am I, what am I watching…】
【Only managed to see a few words. I’m done.】
【I didn’t even finish reading the question, and they’re already on the next one. Is this the world of the strong?】
【I used to think my English was okay. Now I’m sorry I had such a terrible thought.】
【Attempted to do problems with the top students, then got thrown out of the car.】
【Newbie trembling. I finally understand what the brother who replied to me meant. It’s really terrifying.】
【I actually managed to speed read, it’s just that I couldn’t figure out the answer.】
Song Man finished reading the passage, didn’t look back, and wrote down the answer directly.
She didn’t know where Ah Q was. She only had one thought in her mind: Faster, even faster.
【I threw away my Tianli 38 Sets. They’re not worthy.】
【I just finished the first reading passage. Looking up, I’m truly interrupting.】
【Why are they so terrifying? Do their brains turn that fast?】
【I’m watching this with boiling bl00d, holy crap. I excitedly picked up my English practice book. Damn, what is this? I can’t understand it, damn it.】
【Maybe there’s a hundred Huanggang Secret Scrolls between me and the big shots.】
【The sea knows when the fish cries. Who knows when I cry?】
Song Man had finished all the multiple-choice and reading comprehension questions and was scrolling on the screen, writing the fill-in-the-blank questions.
After finishing the last word transformation, Song Man collapsed onto the bed, letting out a long sigh.
Satisfying.
She loved this feeling of trying her best to complete something without having to think about anything else. It was this feeling that made her love competitive events.
Half a minute later, Song Man picked up her phone and saw the victory message, a smile playing on her lips.
【Ah Q】: Your speed is faster again. Not bad.
【A Man】: You’re not bad either. You shaved off a few seconds. You’re only a few tens of thousands of light-years away from catching up to me.
【Ah Q】: You’re still as narcissistic as ever.
【A Man】: I am a show-off, after all.
【Ah Q】: What do you think of Lingnan?
Song Man adjusted her posture, lying on her stomach on the bed, and replied.
【A Man】: What? Still dwelling on the loss?
【Ah Q】: If I had to dwell on every loss, I’d be dwelling on you for a lifetime. Let’s not do that.
【A Man】: Tsk tsk tsk, surface rivals. But she’s stronger than you in geometry. You didn’t have an advantage in the problem types. Have you been training harder?
【Ah Q】: Yes, I need to practice more.
【A Man】: If you don’t understand something, ask me. I’ll answer online.
【Ah Q】: Okay.
Song Man rolled over, glanced at the time, and saw it was already almost 1:30. She tossed her phone aside, ready to sleep.
Before sleeping, she remembered something. It seemed she had forgotten to ask for Ah Q’s contact information.
Forget it, it wasn’t important. She could ask next time she remembered. Anyway, besides doing problems, she rarely contacted people.
Separated by a wall, Chu Fengqiu looked at her phone, touching its edge.
She had lost twice today. Losing to A Man didn’t bother her much; after all, they were old rivals. She knew where A Man had an advantage and a disadvantage against her. It was having such an excellent opponent that allowed her to keep pushing herself forward.
Chu Fengqiu went back and watched the recording of her PK with Lingnan. By the time she had analyzed it thoroughly, it was almost time to go back to class.
She knocked on Song Man’s door and waited patiently outside.
A few minutes later, Song Man opened the door, her hair messy and her eyes unfocused.
Chu Fengqiu looked at Song Man’s hair and couldn’t help but smile, reaching out to ruffle it.
The texture was indeed as good as she had imagined, even better.
Song Man was bewildered by Chu Fengqiu touching her head. She swatted Chu Fengqiu’s hand away.
“Don’t you know you shouldn’t touch someone’s head? You won’t grow taller.”
Song Man glared at Chu Fengqiu, ran her hand through her hair, and followed her out.
Song Man was still not fully awake. The summer heat was stuffy, and she felt drowsy in class, half-asleep and half-awake. In between, she heard the teacher talking about the monthly exam.
The monthly exam was the day after tomorrow. The teachers were still teaching whatever they had reached, assigning homework without mercy, and everyone was buried in their work.
Song Man felt the atmosphere was different.
When she was in the regular class, only the people in the front rows cared about the monthly exam. The others played or slept as usual. Class One was different. Although they weren’t exactly on high alert, they were all taking it seriously.
It made Song Man feel too embarrassed to openly sleep in front of them, lest she mess up their mindset.
But that evening, when she saw the practice problems Chu Fengqiu placed in front of her, it was her mindset that collapsed.
“These are the problems I predict will be on the monthly exam. The more problems you understand, the higher your score will be.”
Chu Fengqiu placed the practice book in front of Song Man and pointed to the places she had circled.
“But I don’t understand.”
She firmly maintained her persona as a bad student.
“It’s okay. Whatever you don’t understand, I’ll teach you. I’ll keep explaining until you understand that problem.”
Chu Fengqiu said softly, a smile on her face, looking gentle and considerate.
“Then I’ll take a look.”
Song Man’s expression became more and more furrowed as she looked. It wasn’t because it was difficult; the problems Chu Fengqiu gave were probably the simple ones from the beginning, like the first three multiple-choice questions, so simple that she could get the answer without much thought. But now she had to pretend to struggle and not understand.
Chu Fengqiu explained the steps to solve the problem once, watching Song Man’s face wrinkle more and more, her small face showing great pain.
She looked so much like she was in agony from doing problems that Chu Fengqiu couldn’t help but doubt her previous guess.
Could Song Man really not understand? Otherwise, there was no need to show such a pained expression for such a simple math problem.
“I still don’t understand.”
Song Man uttered this sentence with difficulty.
She felt like a high school student being forced to listen to kindergarten problems, but she couldn’t show her disdain for the difficulty. She could only pretend to be a baby with whimpers.
“Then I’ll explain it to you again. This type of problem requires using a theorem. Do you understand this part? We first… then… and finally get…”
Chu Fengqiu explained it again patiently.
Song Man pretended to have a sudden realization.
Then the second problem, the situation was the same.
After struggling through several problems, Song Man slumped weakly onto Chu Fengqiu.
“Let’s take a break, okay? Aren’t you tired?”
If they kept going, she’d get constipation warnings.
Song Man’s breath fanned onto Chu Fengqiu, and Chu Fengqiu’s body stiffened instinctively, trying hard to relax.
Song Man was now leaning on her, her head resting on her abdomen. Her hot breath completely fanned onto her navel area, creating a wave of heat.
“It’s okay. Let’s rest for a while.”
Chu Fengqiu said this while couldn’t help but reach out and touch Song Man’s hair. Then her hand was pulled down by Song Man, and she received a glare from Song Man.
“Chu Fengqiu, are you petting a dog?”
“How could I be? You’re much nicer to pet than a dog.”
Chu Fengqiu swore she was giving a serious compliment, but it seemed to have caused a misunderstanding.
“I used to have a Labrador. You really feel better to touch than it did.”
After Chu Fengqiu said this, she immediately paused, feeling like her explanation was worse than no explanation.
Song Man, however, didn’t care about the texture thing. She was a bit curious about what Chu Fengqiu said about her past.
Speaking of which, besides Chu Fengqiu’s mountain-like fatherly love, she hadn’t heard Chu Fengqiu talk about anything else, like Chu Fengqiu’s mother.
But thinking it wouldn’t be a good story, Song Man simply followed up on the dog question.
“And then? What about the dog?”
“It was poisoned.”
Chu Fengqiu twitched her lips, a momentary chill in her eyes.
“Holy crap, that’s so vicious. Was the person caught?”
Song Man was startled. What kind of malicious person would do that?
“Yeah.”
Chu Fengqiu seemed unwilling to talk about it further, a shadow covering her beautiful face.
“But it’s all in the past now.”
Song Man’s face was pressed against Chu Fengqiu’s stomach. She habitually rubbed against it, her palm gently patting Chu Fengqiu’s back, softly comforting her.
Chu Fengqiu felt a bit flustered by Song Man’s actions. Her abdomen felt slightly itchy from the soft hair rubbing against it. The girl lying there had bright, clear eyes, which seemed to reflect the light.
Something soft seemed to touch her heart, a feeling both sore and numb, terrifyingly unfamiliar.
“Yeah, it’s all in the past.”
Chu Fengqiu nodded.
“To make you feel better, how about we play games!”
Song Man suddenly looked up and made a suggestion.
“Monthly exam tomorrow.”
Chu Fengqiu reminded her.
“I’ve been studying all night. I’ve understood several problems. My score will definitely be better than last time.”
Song Man started to act spoiled.
“That confident?”
“Because I handed in a blank paper last time.”
Song Man gave herself a thumbs-up. She was definitely going to improve.
Chu Fengqiu was amused by her.
“Come on, come on, stop doing problems. It’s so tiring.”
Song Man sat on the bed and waved at Chu Fengqiu.
Chu Fengqiu nodded and tidied up the practice books and notebooks on the desk.
Song Man was already waiting for her in the game lobby.
As soon as Chu Fengqiu came online, Song Man let out an “Eh?”
“Chu Fengqiu, how are you already Platinum? Did you take a plane to get to this rank?”
She was Bronze just two days ago, right?
And Chu Fengqiu looked like she studied hard every day. Where did she find the time to play games?
Although getting to Platinum was easy, there was still Silver and Gold between Bronze and Platinum.
Song Man clicked on Chu Fengqiu’s profile and gave her a thumbs-up looking at her match history.
This sister was truly a talented player.
Almost all her matches were solo queue, and she only used one hero.
“You like Gan Jiang & Mo Ye that much?”
Gan Jiang & Mo Ye was a hero with strong directional skills, testing prediction ability. If you could position well and land your skills accurately, you were good.
“The skill range is far.”
Song Man’s match history wasn’t hidden, so Chu Fengqiu knew Song Man played ranked matches more often. If she stayed at her current rank, Song Man could only play normal matches with her.
So Chu Fengqiu had researched all the heroes, analyzed them, and chose the heroes she could pick up most easily besides support. She watched guides and pro player videos and practiced hard to climb the ranks.
Besides that, she also researched Song Man’s frequently used heroes, then looked up which supports were suitable to pair with them, creating combinations and listing them clearly in her notebook.
She had stayed up late for several nights because of this, but she didn’t think it was a big deal.
“That’s true.”
Hearing Chu Fengqiu’s words, Song Man nodded.
Gan Jiang & Mo Ye didn’t need to be in the center of the fight; they could just throw skills from the outside. They also had a skill to push enemies away, offering decent self-preservation. Because of their long range, they weren’t easily controlled, and their damage was high. Landing skills accurately was like a thousand arrows piercing the heart.
Since the new season had reset ranks, and Song Man had a losing streak at the start of the season, she had dropped from Star to Diamond. She could actually queue with Chu Fengqiu now.
“This is draft pick. Just listen to me for banning heroes.”
“Okay.”
Song Man, picking first, chose an assassin. The beautiful cat girl was her favorite.
The third pick said they wanted to play Zhuang Zhou. Song Man typed on the screen.
【A Man】: You go mid. Support will play fifth pick.
Song Man didn’t want a useless support. The enemy might not have many crowd control abilities.
Chu Fengqiu appropriately clicked on Guiguzi, but the third pick still stubbornly chose Zhuang Zhou.
“Tsk, fine. Then Chu Fengqiu, you play mid.”
Chu Fengqiu frowned slightly, reluctantly choosing mid lane.
As soon as they entered the game, Song Man knew why when she saw the tags. The other three were a trio queue.
The start of the game wasn’t smooth because the support didn’t follow Song Man first.
Song Man typed for the support to follow her, but was ignored. The support still stuck closely behind the marksman.
“What kind of awareness is this? Chu Fengqiu, help me check the blue buff.”
Song Man was a bit annoyed.
After Chu Fengqiu cleared the mid lane minions, she found the enemy was invading their blue buff.
There were at least three enemies. Chu Fengqiu could only throw skills over the wall.
As soon as Song Man saw the people surrounding the blue buff, she decisively gave up on that side and headed straight for the enemy’s blue buff.
After exchanging buffs, Song Man took a jungle camp and saw the enemy surrounding her, so she quickly retreated.
“Oh, did you steal our blue buff? Nice.”
Chu Fengqiu controlled her character and tilted her head towards Song Man.
“Why is this top laner so stupid? If you can’t win the fight, don’t you know to retreat first? Why are you still going in hard?”
Song Man was exasperated, escaping with low health.
After about seven minutes, their side was collapsing. The enemy knew to group up and gank, but their support just stuck to the marksman, then got killed by the enemy, both dying together.
Then they started flaming the jungler.
Blaming the jungler was just an unwritten rule among some players. If a game’s tempo was bad, it must be because the jungler was trash and couldn’t carry the tempo. Although sometimes that was indeed the case, it didn’t include the current situation.
【Your Little Sister (Zhuang Zhou)】: This jungler is so bad and still wants to jungle. I’m really speechless. With this level, they still have the nerve to carry a girl?
“Wow, this support is really… Choosing a hero with little mechanics is one thing, but they don’t even have any awareness and are still flaming others here. They don’t even know how to get carried.”
Song Man originally intended to play a game to have fun, but the first game made her so irritable.
【Your Little Sister (Hou Yi)】: Don’t mind these idiotic couple dogs. They can’t do anything but show off their affection.
【Your Little Sister (Zhuang Zhou)】: Couple dogs hurry up and die, okay? Elementary school kids, don’t come ruin the game.
Chu Fengqiu looked at her 3-1 score, then at Song Man’s 4-1, and then at Hou Yi’s 0-3, and fell into confusion.
“Is everyone’s logic so self-contained?”
Chu Fengqiu said.
Song Man was also angry. What did they mean by the two of them showing off affection?
“We didn’t even type anything in here. They can still say we’re showing off affection. Maybe they don’t even know what showing off affection means?”
Song Man smiled playfully.
“Chu Fengqiu, if they get into trouble later, don’t go help. Protect yourself. We’ll report them later. I’m about to put on a show.”
Song Man was fishing in the jungle, typing on her keyboard.
【A Man (Ah Ke)】: Kissy wifey, maybe these are two noob single dogs being jealous here.
【A Man (Ah Ke)】: No choice, having a girlfriend means you can be this willful.
【A Man (Ah Ke)】: I carry my girl and I’m proud. Look at you guys, you don’t even have a girl.
【A Man (Ah Ke)】: You guys have probably been single for too long, even the wild boars in the canyon look attractive, huh? What are you looking for a sense of presence in the game for?
Song Man typed quickly, instantly flooding the screen. And she could still roam in the jungle, not just standing still.
Chu Fengqiu paused her action of clearing minions, watching Song Man out of the corner of her eye.
The fair-skinned girl had a playful smile on her face at the moment, a hint of seriousness in her cold eyes.
“Chu Fengqiu, cooperate with me later. Type a response. I’ll make them so mad they’ll die?”
【A Man (Ah Ke)】: Wifey mwah mwah.
【Q (Gan Jiang & Mo Ye)】: Mwah mwah.
This was the first time in her life Chu Fengqiu had typed these three words. She felt a little embarrassed herself.
“Later I’ll send you a name change card. We’ll change to couple IDs, the kind that clearly shows we’re duo queueing. Whatever monsters they are.”
Song Man watched the marksman and support stand there typing insults, then get caught and killed by the enemy. She couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
A notification popped up on the screen. The marksman and support were muted by the system for using foul language. Song Man thought it was amazing and could imagine the people on the other side jumping up and down in anger.
The enemy pushed their crystal. Song Man didn’t care. When she exited, she reported them and saw the report was successful before leaving the page.
“Chu Fengqiu, one more game? Hey? Why is your face so red?”
Song Man looked up and found Chu Fengqiu’s face covered in a blush.
Chu Fengqiu was also a girl with fair skin, so her blush was particularly noticeable. Song Man leaned closer curiously.
“Is it?”
Chu Fengqiu was a bit confused. She put her hand on her face but didn’t feel anything unusual.
“Yeah, look.”
Song Man reached for the mirror on the bed, brought it over, and held it in front of Chu Fengqiu, even poking her cheek.
Chu Fengqiu looked at herself in the mirror with some astonishment. The person in the mirror had flushed cheeks, making her feel very unfamiliar for a moment.
Chu Fengqiu touched her arm with her hand and realized she hadn’t noticed the abnormality on her face because the temperature of her palm was higher than usual, perhaps even higher than the temperature of her face, so she didn’t feel anything wrong when touching her face.
“Maybe I was just angry. Let’s play games.”
Chu Fengqiu took the mirror away and shook her phone at Song Man.
“You don’t need to get angry over those noobs. Let them be jealous to death.”
Song Man snorted lightly and looked away without suspicion.
Chu Fengqiu let out a soft sigh of relief, looking at her palm. It was really strange.
Fortunately, this situation didn’t happen again. Song Man jungled and Chu Fengqiu supported, and they carried the tempo.
Song Man was surprised to find that no matter what jungler hero she played, Chu Fengqiu could find the most suitable support according to the team composition, as if they hadn’t just started playing together today, but had been playing together for a long time.
And with Chu Fengqiu’s skill and awareness, she was better than so many people. It was hard to believe she was a Bronze player just two days ago.
“Why didn’t I meet you sooner?”
Song Man sighed.
This time, Chu Fengqiu genuinely felt heat rising to her cheeks, and her fingers curled up unnaturally.
It seemed Song Man was quite satisfied, which meant her late-night strategizing hadn’t been in vain. She could sleep well tonight.
Their winning streak was going well. Song Man glanced at the time; it was almost midnight.
“How about you sleep in my room tonight? We can play for a bit longer.”
Just as Chu Fengqiu was about to speak, she heard Song Man speak again.
“Almost forgot about the exam tomorrow. Forget it, forget it, no more playing. Chu Fengqiu, hurry back to your room and sleep.”
Chu Fengqiu swallowed the agreement she was about to say, pursed her lips, nodded, and got up to leave.
