Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 25
“Ailan must be in trouble. Call Xiao Mao and the others, tell them to check on Ailan’s home, and also ask Ailan’s colleagues if anything has happened to her recently.”
Song Man’s brow furrowed so much it could kill a fly. Deng Wei quickly made the call.
“I’ll go ask.”
Chu Fengqiu didn’t stand idle either, preparing to go to the shop to help ask around.
Song Man glanced at her in surprise and nodded.
Not long after, Chu Fengqiu came out.
“They said people have been coming to find Ailan recently, wanting to date her, but Ailan wasn’t willing. There were a few arguments at the shop entrance. Ailan left the shop about ten minutes ago.”
“Thanks.”
Song Man thanked her. This matter originally had nothing to do with Chu Fengqiu.
Song Man went to the shop to ask who it was. After getting a general description, she made a call.
When Song Man found Ailan, Ailan was confronting some people in an alley. She didn’t look good, but she hadn’t suffered any major harm.
Song Man breathed a sigh of relief. She didn’t want anything to happen to Ailan.
“Man Jie, why are you here?”
Ailan’s eyes lit up when she saw her, but then immediately dimmed.
The situation was not optimistic. Three men stood in front of Ailan, two tall and one short, but all were undoubtedly adult men.
Song Man and Chu Fengqiu found her first, followed by Deng Wei. The others were still on their way.
“Yo, yo, yo, quite a scene here. Don’t make it look like we’re bullying you. Your parents said they’d give you to me as a wife, we’re not just snatching you randomly.”
One of the men spoke, with a sleazy tone.
“If you want to marry, marry them. It has nothing to do with me.”
Ailan sneered, a hint of embarrassment in her eyes.
She hated having this mentioned in front of Song Man the most, not wanting Song Man to know her humiliation.
To her, Song Man was like sunlight shining in from another world, dazzling and piercing, making her want to hide all ugliness in front of her. Yet, she was being forced to face it right now.
“That won’t do, tsk,” the man was pulled by his companion’s clothes and turned his head, seeing Song Man and Chu Fengqiu. He whistled, “Two pretty little girls like this, also coming out to fight?”
Song Man was undoubtedly good-looking. The sunlight on her face seemed to cast a halo, making her look noble, like a beautiful, proud swan. But her eyes and expression were fierce, like an untamed beast, showing its claws and fangs.
Chu Fengqiu looked much quieter, barely showing any expression.
The man sensed they were different from Ailan, knowing they weren’t people he could mess with, but that didn’t stop him from running his mouth.
“Little girls should hurry home. Don’t meddle in other people’s business, or you might get scared and cry.”
“Her business isn’t meddling. She’s someone I protect. If you want to touch her, you have to get past me first.”
Song Man pointed at Ailan and wiggled her fingers.
“Her parents already sold her to me, so she’s mine now.”
The man grabbed Ailan’s hair and yanked her over. Ailan cried out in pain and struggled fiercely, but the man slapped her.
“Damn it.”
Deng Wei couldn’t hold back and charged forward.
“Chu Fengqiu, stand back.”
Song Man dropped that sentence and also charged forward.
In terms of numbers, Song Man and her group didn’t have the advantage. The short man grabbed Ailan, controlling her movements, while Deng Wei and Song Man were in a 2v2 against the other two men.
Song Man wasn’t some wild fighter who only knew flashy moves. She became the school’s top dog and boss not by relying on her family’s wealth or stunning looks, but by fighting her way up with her fists.
Before she was 12, Song Man learned piano, dancing, and lady-like etiquette. After 12, Song Man learned Sanda and Muay Thai, and exercised daily to build stamina.
So even if the opponent was an adult man, she could use technique to make sure he didn’t get the better of her.
Chu Fengqiu was standing not far away, unable to look away for some reason.
She was originally worried about Song Man, as from their physiques, Song Man could easily be beaten down by the men. She had even prepared to call the police.
But Song Man’s attacks were strong, her movements clean and sharp, revealing a strange kind of beauty. Chu Fengqiu felt a tremor in her heart for some reason.
Her heart beat faster and faster, making it hard for her to breathe.
Song Man was handling things with ease, but Deng Wei was struggling a bit.
Deng Wei was just a half-grown kid after all, and his fighting style was self-taught and relied purely on brute force. He was fighting the man who had just slapped Ailan. Deng Wei had a stamina disadvantage and had been kicked to the ground several times, his face bruised and swollen.
Fortunately, Xiao Mao and the others had arrived with people by then. A group of young people surrounded the alley. The short man didn’t even have time to watch Ailan and ran over to help.
The sounds of bodies colliding were endless. The three men weren’t particularly formidable either and were quickly overwhelmed by the human wave tactic. Curses filled the air as they were kicked while huddled in the corner.
The man who had spoken first saw Chu Fengqiu standing there through a gap.
Chu Fengqiu hadn’t moved, just watching from the side. Standing there, she looked like a good student. The man got an idea, became desperate, charged out of the crowd, and grabbed Chu Fengqiu’s hand.
Chu Fengqiu was suddenly attacked. She couldn’t shake him off and her wrist was tightly gripped by the man. She frowned in disgust.
“All you damn brats stop! Today’s my damn bad luck running into a bunch of punks like you, ptui.”
The man spat a mouthful of bloody saliva onto the ground, his face swollen and expression ferocious.
He hadn’t expected that the girl who looked like a porcelain doll would be so ruthless. His stomach still hurt; she had kicked him.
He knew this person came with that girl, and that girl was the leader of these kids. Grabbing one would definitely make them stop.
The others looked at Song Man, and Song Man quickly told them to stop.
The two big men in the corner ran out, looking utterly miserable.
Song Man’s side wasn’t much better off. Everyone was panting, and some were injured.
“Let her go.”
Song Man had thought Chu Fengqiu was standing far enough away to be safe, but she didn’t expect this person to charge out like a madman and grab Chu Fengqiu. Her eyes were dark and gloomy.
The man didn’t know how he was intimidated by a little girl’s gaze. He subconsciously wanted to let go but then realized something was wrong and started cursing obscenely.
“Originally, this was between me and her. Let me take her, and I’ll let her go for you guys.”
The man pointed at Ailan next to Song Man, then pointed at Chu Fengqiu, whom he was holding.
“Looks like a clean, pretty student. Must be really afraid of pain, right?”
The man stood up, looking somewhat menacing. He put his hand near Chu Fengqiu’s face, but Chu Fengqiu dodged it.
This was the first time Chu Fengqiu had encountered something like this, but she wasn’t flustered. The man had no weapon and wouldn’t dare to do anything too extreme. She looked at Song Man, her expression calm and composed.
“Chu Fengqiu, if you trust me, don’t move.”
“Okay.”
Chu Fengqiu replied like this.
“At a time like this, you still only say one word. You’re going to bore yourself to death.”
Song Man was a little annoyed but also wanted to laugh.
She stepped back two paces. Her followers made way for her. She started a run-up, lifting her leg towards the man.
The man subconsciously pushed Chu Fengqiu back as a shield, but he didn’t expect Song Man wasn’t going to kick him directly. Instead, she pushed off the wall, using the momentum for a spinning kick that hit his body. The man was kicked to the ground.
Chu Fengqiu stumbled slightly and was supported by Deng Wei.
“That’s our Man Jie’s ultimate move.”
Deng Wei gave a thumbs-up.
Chu Fengqiu still felt a tremor in her heart. Song Man wasn’t far from her at the time. If she had blindly retreated then, that kick might have accidentally hit her.
“What the hell? Don’t you know who you can mess with? And you grabbed her hand? Are you worthy?”
Song Man ground her foot on the man’s fingers. After hearing a scream, she withdrew her foot.
The remaining two wanted to run but were surrounded by Song Man’s followers.
“You weren’t scared, were you?”
Song Man patted Chu Fengqiu’s shoulder. Chu Fengqiu’s heart was pounding, but her face remained calm. She shook her head at Song Man.
“Man Jie, what about them?”
“Of course, we call the police. It’s 9012, and people are still doing human trafficking?”
Song Man scoffed and took out her phone to make a call.
“Don’t you have any common sense? Do you think Qingcheng is some backwater where you can just traffic people? And her parents said she’d be your wife? Hilarious. Do you think they gave you a deed of sale?”
Song Man looked back at Ailan. Ailan was tidying her hair and gave Song Man a smile, but half her face was red and swollen, making her look a bit pathetic.
Song Man gave her a reassuring look, then took Chu Fengqiu’s hand.
The man had gripped Chu Fengqiu’s hand tightly. Her wrist was circled with red and blue marks, looking a bit scary.
“Damn it.”
Song Man couldn’t help but curse.
She kicked the man who was getting up from the ground, her eyes full of anger.
“Someone like you should be taught a lesson by the socialist iron fist. Go to the station and recite the 24-character core values.”
Chu Fengqiu thought Song Man would say something harsh, but she said this with a serious face, which was adorably contrasting.
The sunlight dyed the girl’s hair a light gold. The halo shimmered, seemingly leaping into Chu Fengqiu’s heart.
When the call connected, Song Man immediately changed her tone.
“Uncle Kang, it’s Song Man. I saw a few men here forcing a girl to go with them. It was really scary. I’ve surrounded them. Could you send someone over to take a look? Also, please check if they’ve done anything else bad. I’m on Cailin Road… You’re welcome, Uncle. This is what a concerned citizen should do.”
When Song Man spoke, she was completely a well-behaved girl. The three men were so shocked by her contrast that their eyes almost popped out. They instinctively felt things were bad and wanted to run.
“Run? Running will only add to your crime.”
“Stop trying to fool us, damn it. At most, this is just a brawl. ‘Adding to the crime’ my ass.”
“Then what if I say you were human trafficking?”
Seeing the bruise on Chu Fengqiu’s wrist, Song Man wanted nothing more than to kick the man a couple more times. But thinking that someone would arrive soon, she forced herself to hold back.
“You guys disperse. Those who are injured go apply some medicine. I’ll treat you to a good meal later.”
Song Man checked the time and looked at her followers.
The followers agreed one after another and dispersed completely in less than a minute.
The three men turned to run but heard the wailing sound of a police siren.
The men froze for a moment, then ran even faster.
Song Man pointed the way for the arriving officers, carefully holding Chu Fengqiu’s hand and walking forward, while also telling Ailan to follow.
Chu Fengqiu felt a gaze, looked up, and saw Ailan staring at Song Man holding her hand.
