Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 5
Seeing her dad’s unyielding expression, Song Man knew this matter was set in stone and couldn’t be argued against. She could only hold her nose and accept it.
To be honest, she wasn’t very willing to go. It was so good in the old Class Eleven; most of them were academic underachievers, and she had zero psychological burden being the last place. If she went to the top student class and her scores remained the same, things probably wouldn’t be peaceful around her.
Song Man wasn’t someone who liked changing environments much. She was used to the ease of Class Eleven, and going to Class One would likely be stifling.
But Song Man also knew her parents were doing this for her own good. She flopped onto the bed, sighing as she looked at her hamster pillow.
How could she maintain that balance?
Fortunately, Song Qinglan was excellent enough, and she had been pretending for a few years now. Gradually improving a little bit should be fine.
Song Man planned it out in her head. The anxiety about making a change hadn’t disappeared, and she was still full from the barbecue and hadn’t digested it yet. She simply took out her phone, opened the Question Bank app, and started doing problems.
Only at times like this could she be completely focused, without her mind wandering to other things.
The clock on the wall pointed to twelve. Song Man’s phone alarm went off. She dismissed the alarm, finished the last problem, submitted the test, and saw the perfect score. Song Man’s expression remained unchanged. She exited the app, plugged in her charger, and collapsed onto the bed to sleep.
The next day, a knock on the door woke her up.
“What is it?”
Song Man’s voice carried dissatisfaction. She glanced at the time—six-thirty. She wanted nothing more than to pull the covers over her head and go back to sleep.
She was known for sleeping through evening self-study at home and then going to class just to hang out, practically the most carefree person at Qingcheng No. 1 High.
“Manman, you’re changing classes today. Go to school a bit earlier to pack up your things.”
Xu Qinglang’s voice sounded from outside the door. Song Man immediately pulled the covers over her head.
Getting up early was impossible.
Xu Qinglang heard no movement inside and knew Song Man hadn’t gotten up. “Manman, I’m coming in.”
Song Man continued to play dead.
Xu Qinglang saw Song Man lying in bed, smiled, and shook his head. He walked straight over and picked Song Man up, blanket and all.
“Dad! What are you doing!”
Suddenly suspended in the air, Song Man was startled awake.
Although Xu Qinglang had been a stay-at-home dad for over a decade, he was still a grown man and had no trouble carrying his daughter.
Xu Qinglang carried Song Man directly into the bathroom and set her down on the floor.
“Ten minutes. I’ll wait for you at the door. I’m going to school with you today.”
Xu Qinglang’s expression was still gentle, but he gave Song Man no chance to argue.
Song Man scratched her head, threw the thin blanket back onto the bed, and shuffled in her slippers to wash up.
Although her dad had always been easy to talk to since she was little, always speaking softly, if he truly made up his mind, there was no point in resisting.
Ten minutes later, Song Man came downstairs wearing her school uniform with her phone in her pocket.
“Come eat breakfast first.”
Xu Qinglang beckoned. The housekeeper had already prepared breakfast and set it on the table.
Today’s breakfast was preserved egg and lean meat congee and shrimp dumplings, which eased Song Man’s low mood from getting up early. After eating breakfast, her face wasn’t so grumpy anymore.
By the time they arrived at school, it was already six-fifty, and the bell for morning self-study had just rung.
All the students were in class. After all, there was no second student like Song Man who would brazenly arrive at eight o’clock. Even if they came to sleep in class, the students in Class Eleven were all present.
So, they were uncharacteristically surprised to see Song Man arrive at this hour, even though she was standing at the door and hadn’t come in.
Everyone watched curiously, and the sound of reading stopped.
“Lao Cheng, just move the desk over.”
Xu Qinglang said to the driver behind him. The driver nodded and walked towards the only empty seat in the classroom.
“Man Jie, what’s going on?”
Deng Wei noticed something was wrong and quickly looked at Song Man.
Song Man gave him a death glare. Don’t ask. If you ask, it’s dropping out.
Lao Cheng was a retired soldier who had been a driver for the Song family for ten years. He hadn’t let up on his training and had no trouble carrying the desk full of books.
Xu Qinglang went in, took out Song Man’s chair, and headed upstairs towards Class One.
Song Man turned around and waved at the students in Class Eleven.
After Song Man left, the class suddenly erupted.
“What’s happening?”
“I don’t know, is she leaving?”
“She must be changing classes, otherwise why would they move her desk?”
“Then which class could she go to? Is there a worse class than the regular classes?”
Probably not?
“What are you all shouting about? Finished reading already?”
Lao Liu walked in, knocked on a desk, and told everyone to keep reading.
“Old Class, where is Man Jie going?”
Deng Wei quickly asked.
“Where she’s going is none of your business. Read your book.”
Lao Liu glared at him and turned to leave the classroom.
Although Song Man sat in the same class as these kids, seemingly the same, she was never truly the same. And these kids still didn’t quite understand that the fastest way to change their fate was right in their hands, yet they didn’t cherish it.
Unlike the slight surprise in Class Eleven, the students in Class One were so startled their books almost fell. They looked with horror at the legendary female demon king who appeared at their classroom door.
“It’s Song Man, it’s Song Man.”
“Is it the Song Man I know?”
“Nonsense, where else in our school is there a second Song Man?”
“Why is she in our class?”
Such chattering sounds hadn’t stopped since Song Man appeared.
“Ahem, quiet.”
The homeroom teacher knocked on the desk, and the students below fell silent.
“This is our new classmate, Song Man. Everyone, get to know her.”
When Song Man first walked over, Wang Siqin had already sized up this legendary ‘wicked and unruly’ female student.
On the surface, she really didn’t look like that kind of person. She was very pretty, and her short hair made her look lively and well-behaved, but meeting those eyes, there was indeed a hint of a bully.
Yesterday, when she learned this bad student was coming to her class, she was so anxious and upset in the middle of the night that she almost ran directly to the principal’s house to ask why.
The class she led was a top student class. If someone like this came, it wouldn’t just affect the class atmosphere; the average score would surely drop significantly.
Wang Siqin was actually resentful, but the school said it was arranged and that if she taught well, the matter of being evaluated as a special-grade teacher might just happen.
This wicked capitalism.
But Wang Siqin was still tempted. She had applied for a long time, and her teaching experience was sufficient, but it had never been her turn. Because of this, when Wang Siqin saw Song Man, she was still quite calm.
No student should be given up on, Wang Siqin told herself. So, when introducing Song Man to the students, she could still wear a smile.
Wang Siqin looked at Song Man, signaling her to introduce herself.
“Hello everyone, I’m Song Man.”
Song Man simply said that one sentence, her gaze sweeping over the students below. When she met a certain gaze, she paused for a few seconds.
It was a girl who was quite good-looking. She wasn’t whispering or chatting with others, just smiling and looking at her, seeming to have a good temper.
“Song Man, you can sit in the back for now. We’ll be rearranging seats this afternoon, so we can adjust then, okay?”
Song Man nodded. Good, she liked the back row.
Lao Cheng moved the desk to the spot the teacher indicated, then took the chair from Xu Qinglang and placed it at the desk.
Song Man didn’t go in immediately. Seeing her dad beckon, she walked out.
“Manman, I know you’re definitely not happy because you’re changing to a new environment. The pressure in this environment will definitely be greater than where you were before, but only this way can it motivate you to work hard.”
Xu Qinglang said softly. The influence of environment on people is huge. In an environment with a good learning atmosphere, Song Man should be able to apply herself.
Her grades used to be very good. From elementary school, she got perfect scores in every subject, even up to sixth grade. At that time, everyone praised her. She was good-looking and had good grades, and her future achievements would definitely surpass her sister’s.
But from the second year of middle school, her grades started to decline.
By high school, she was almost always last.
He tried talking to his daughter, but Song Man always changed the subject or just said she wanted to play and didn’t want to study.
He didn’t know how things had developed to this point.
“Don’t cause trouble in the new class, okay? If you can use your mouth, don’t use your hands. Think about it, isn’t making others speechless with anger much better than hitting people and having to take responsibility?”
Song Man had been expressionless, but Xu Qinglang’s words made her laugh.
“Got it.”
Song Man wasn’t an unreasonable person. If others didn’t provoke her, she wouldn’t look for trouble.
“Then go on in.”
Song Man nodded and entered the classroom.
Xu Qinglang didn’t leave, however, and began talking with Song Man’s new homeroom teacher.
Wang Siqin looked at the elegant and refined middle-aged man before her and couldn’t help but sigh at how good the Song family’s genes were.
Song Man sat in the back row. Everyone looked curiously for a while, then went back to their own business. The classroom returned to the sound of diligent reading.
Song Man looked at the room full of good students and felt a bit sleepy amidst their reading. She simply propped her head up and dozed off.
After only a few minutes of sleep, Song Man was nudged awake.
She looked up, her eyes full of impatience.
Her beautiful eyes held a gloomy sharpness that made the hand that nudged her recoil as if it had touched electricity.
“Something wrong?”
The female student who had woken her up looked at Song Man’s fierce expression, her hand trembling slightly.
“The teacher said not to sleep during morning self-study.”
The girl in the front row’s voice was a little shaky. After speaking, she quickly turned back to her book.
Song Man glanced at the teacher on the podium, frowned, and started looking at her book.
After a while, she closed the book, propped her head up, and looked towards the window, appearing to be spacing out.
Song Man silently recited the text she had just read in her mind, understood the general meaning, and then recited it again before turning her gaze back from the window.
She looked up at the podium; the teacher was no longer there.
She took out her phone and opened the Question Bank app.
She had only just started one problem when her desk was lightly tapped.
“Classmate, you can’t play on your phone during morning self-study.”
Chu Fengqiu watched the girl sitting there look up and said softly.
