Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 53
Song Man took a while to recover after resting, rinsing her mouth by the sink and drinking some water, which made her feel much better.
She was covered in sweat, her back especially wet and sticky, feeling very uncomfortable.
Fortunately, after the sports meet ended, everyone could go home and only needed to return for evening self-study.
Song Man had just washed her face, water droplets trickling down her fair, tender skin, which almost glowed white in the sunlight.
“Why do you people not get tanned even without sunscreen?”
Zhuang Yushi looked enviously at Song Man’s skin, her umbrella still held up.
She tanned easily. Although she could wear beautiful clothes in the summer, every time she had to moisturize, apply barrier cream, sunscreen, and finally hold an umbrella, yet her skin wasn’t as fair as Song Man’s, who basked under the sun. It was truly frustrating.
“Born with it, I guess.”
Qin Xiangyi chimed in and was kicked by Zhuang Yushi. Song Man saw it and raised an eyebrow.
“Alright, Zhuang Yushi, you dare kick Qin Xiangyi now? He’s not your dream guy, oppa, or male god anymore?”
“Not for a long time now. He’s not my destined one. I wonder when my Prince Charming will arrive.”
Zhuang Yushi sighed, her face full of melancholy.
Her voice was sweet and soft, and she held an umbrella adorned with lace. Her appearance made Song Man shiver slightly.
“The prince bought a standing ticket and left overnight yesterday, didn’t even have time to ride his white horse.”
Qin Xiangyi added a jab. Zhuang Yushi raised her foot to kick again, and Qin Xiangyi quickly hid behind Song Man.
“Manman, let’s grab dinner later and hang out, maybe go clubbing tonight?”
Qin Xiangyi extended the invitation. Song Man was feeling restless and annoyed, so she nodded and agreed.
She had a fire burning inside her right now and had absolutely no desire to just sit in the classroom. In the past, she had sat there obediently for Chu Fengqiu, but today her mood was truly explosive.
“I’ll go home first. I’ll call you later.”
“What’s your number?”
Song Man almost forgot again. She took Qin Xiangyi’s phone, entered her number, waved goodbye with her back to them, and left with Chu Fengqiu.
She walked quickly, and Chu Fengqiu followed without saying a word.
She connected the dots from the things that had felt off before. She had long thought Song Man’s attitude towards her sister was very strange. Judging by her sister’s attitude, she seemed to dote on Song Man a lot, and their relationship should be very good. But Chu Fengqiu understood Song Man and sensed Song Man’s resistance towards Song Qinglan.
And today, Qin Xiangyi and Zhuang Yushi’s words confirmed the strangeness between Song Qinglan and Song Man.
Chu Fengqiu wanted to understand but knew she couldn’t ask, at least not yet.
Because school ended early, Song Man didn’t contact the driver and took a taxi home with Chu Fengqiu. On the way home, her face was expressionless, even though she had just won the competition.
She knew she should smile at Chu Fengqiu to prevent her from noticing the facts she wanted to hide.
But she was too tired and didn’t want to pretend in front of Chu Fengqiu at all. The double fatigue, both mental and physical, made her just want to get into the bathroom, take a good shower, and calm down.
Song Man turned on the warm water, which took some time to heat up. The initial cold water pouring down on her head made Song Man’s body shiver involuntarily.
She furrowed her brows until the water temperature slowly warmed up, then relaxed her brows and washed her hair and body expressionlessly.
It wasn’t until she was blow-drying her hair that she finally muttered a “damn it.”
Song Man’s face clearly showed annoyance. She changed into a shirt and shorts, ran her hand through her hair. In the mirror, her hair was a bit messy, and with her lowered brows and eyes, she had a cool, unruly look.
When Chu Fengqiu knocked on her door, she saw the girl in black clothes and black pants. In the light, her arms and legs appeared even fairer.
“Are you coming out with me?”
Song Man looked at Chu Fengqiu, sitting on a chair applying lotion and cream. She rarely wore makeup; it was too much trouble.
“Mhm.”
“It’s not just dinner, you know. We’re going to a bar later. It’s really noisy there, you might not like it.”
A bar didn’t suit Chu Fengqiu’s style at all. A quiet bar might be okay, but Song Man wasn’t going to that kind; she was going to a lively club for dancing.
“Mhm.”
How could Chu Fengqiu let Song Man go clubbing alone? She still remembered Song Man’s alcohol tolerance; she got completely drunk after just one bottle of fruit wine. She had to go with her.
“Don’t good students have evening self-study?”
“I took leave, and helped you take leave too.”
Song Man smiled and nodded at Chu Fengqiu. Truly sisters.
“Well, since we’re going dancing, don’t dress so casually. Do you have any other clothes suitable for a night out?”
Chu Fengqiu’s current outfit was suitable for giving a lecture anytime. Although not very formal, the long sleeves and pants really didn’t match the style of a night club.
Chu Fengqiu shook her head. She hadn’t brought many clothes, just her usual few outfits.
“Then come in. We have similar figures, my clothes should fit you.”
Song Man opened her closet and started picking out clothes for Chu Fengqiu.
Anything too revealing was definitely out, but Song Man didn’t have anything overly revealing anyway, just shirts and short shorts. Song Man liked this style; it was cool and comfortable.
Song Man’s fingers brushed over the clothes, picking out a black outfit similar to her own and placing it in front of Chu Fengqiu.
“If you don’t mind wearing something similar to me…”
The shirts only differed in pattern, and the hot pants had different styles, but in the dark, it was hard to tell the difference. From the back, the two outfits looked identical.
“Of course I don’t mind.”
With such a good opportunity, Chu Fengqiu was too happy to even think about minding.
“Then change in my room. It saves you a trip. If you feel shy, you can go to the bathroom.”
“It’s fine.”
Chu Fengqiu took off her top. Song Man’s gaze couldn’t move away, following Chu Fengqiu’s movements and taking in the sight.
Chu Fengqiu’s figure was well-proportioned; an ounce more would be excessive, an ounce less would be too thin. Every inch was just right, perfectly matching Song Man’s aesthetic.
Song Man stared openly, not feeling that this would make the other person uncomfortable. She didn’t hide her appreciation, and even when Chu Fengqiu looked over, she gave a playful whistle, acting completely like a dissolute young master.
Chu Fengqiu wasn’t actually shy. She was never stingy about showing her strengths in front of the person she liked, whether it was her soul or her body. As long as it could make Song Man’s gaze linger, that was success.
Chu Fengqiu finished changing and stood opposite Song Man.
“Looks good.”
Song Man felt that even though they were her clothes, they didn’t feel particularly special when she wore them. But on Chu Fengqiu, they looked so good.
Song Man’s compliment was sincere. The same outfit truly had a different style when worn by different people.
She took out a silver ring from her box, put one on her hand, and handed one to Chu Fengqiu.
“Let’s go, time to head out.”
Good sisters going out should have matching styles like this!
Chu Fengqiu happily accepted it, thinking it looked more and more like couple’s wear.
When Qin Xiangyi called, Song Man and Chu Fengqiu were already ready and arranged to meet at the restaurant.
The place Qin Xiangyi chose was a very famous private restaurant. You couldn’t get in without being a member, and everyone who could get in was either rich or influential. Qin Xiangyi had originally suggested going to a club, but Song Man yelled at him over the phone.
Was she that kind of person? Chu Fengqiu was with her, and she didn’t want to lead her astray. Clubs were much more chaotic than bars, and they had a lot of rules. You might even run into some uncles or elders. Song Man really disliked those kinds of places.
“From a distance, you two look like clones.”
Zhuang Yushi had changed out of her lace outfit, wearing a strapless short dress and small heels, with makeup on, watching the two people walk over from a distance.
“A family should be neat and tidy together.”
Song Man put her arm around Chu Fengqiu’s shoulder and lifted her chin at Zhuang Yushi.
“I just realized today, I’m a little dizzy from legs.”
Qin Xiangyi looked at Song Man’s legs for a moment, then at Chu Fengqiu’s legs, muttering to himself.
“Don’t you want your eyes anymore?”
Song Man stood in front of Chu Fengqiu and smiled threateningly at Qin Xiangyi.
Song Man felt a bit unhappy inside and started regretting letting Chu Fengqiu wear this outfit out. The original long sleeves and pants would have been better.
Qin Xiangyi immediately changed the subject, saying let’s eat, let’s eat.
As soon as Song Man entered, she saw a few people greeting her.
After greeting them, Song Man glared at Qin Xiangyi. She had thought it would just be the few of them.
Qin Xiangyi spread his hands, indicating they were all in the same circle and it would have been awkward not to invite them.
They weren’t very close acquaintances. Song Man pulled Chu Fengqiu to sit down, indifferent to the presence of the others.
The group, however, happily called her “Man Jie” one after another and came over to toast.
Song Man certainly didn’t think it was because of her great charm; it was because of the Song family behind her. That’s why she was impatient with this kind of circle. It was all about family background. If you didn’t have power or influence, you were nothing. It was different from Deng Wei, who genuinely called her Man Jie. That’s why Song Man used to prefer inviting Deng Wei and his friends to eat at the night market rather than going to clubs with this group.
Fortunately, that group of young men and women weren’t completely oblivious. Before long, they went off to chat and laugh with Qin Xiangyi and Zhuang Yushi, talking about people and things Song Man didn’t know.
Song Man’s hand idly played with Chu Fengqiu’s hair, watching coolly like an outsider.
She deliberately kept herself detached, forming a world of their own with Chu Fengqiu beside her.
“Tonight’s homework needs to be made up tomorrow.”
Chu Fengqiu whispered beside her ear.
“Wow, are you a devil?”
“Yeah, I’m your devil.”
Then the two of them started talking about studying in the corner. Chu Fengqiu talked about functions with Song Man, and Song Man said miserably that studying was really hard.
Qin Xiangyi glanced over and suddenly felt that the girl he had grown up with had become very different from before.
She was someone he had always paid attention to, yet she had unknowingly changed into someone else. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but Qin Xiangyi always felt that even though Song Man always seemed carefree, she was hiding something in her heart.
He couldn’t know what she was hiding, he could only mess around beside her to make her a little happier. Fortunately, Song Man had now truly found someone who could make her happy.
As Qin Xiangyi thought this, he didn’t know why he felt something was off, yet at the same time, everything seemed right.
After dinner, they headed to the bar. Everyone scattered to find their own fun, while Song Man and Chu Fengqiu sat in a corner, casually drinking.
“Drink less.”
Chu Fengqiu was a little worried seeing Song Man drink so quickly, but Song Man shook her head at her, raised her glass, and Chu Fengqiu had no choice but to clink glasses with her, watching Song Man tilt her head back and swallow the liquid.
The more Song Man drank, the more uncomfortable she felt. She slammed the table, stood up, and extended her hand to Chu Fengqiu.
“Chu Fengqiu, let’s go dance.”
“Okay.”
Song Man pulled Chu Fengqiu’s hand and ran towards the dance floor, smiling.
“Just dance however you like.”
Song Man leaned against Chu Fengqiu, her breath mixed with alcohol, intoxicating Chu Fengqiu.
Song Man danced randomly to the rhythm, just letting loose and having fun.
Perhaps it was the effect of the alcohol, but even though Song Man was moving, she felt detached from her body, unable to think about anything, unwilling to think.
The noise in her ears was deafening, and the scent of strangers overwhelmed her like a tide. Song Man suddenly felt unable to breathe. A huge sense of loss and loneliness embraced her, making her feel like her soul was drifting, not knowing where it should go.
Everything in front of her was blurry. The only thing she could see clearly was Chu Fengqiu’s eyes.
Chu Fengqiu, Chu Fengqiu, Chu Fengqiu…
Song Man heard herself calling Chu Fengqiu’s name and felt Chu Fengqiu’s arm wrap around her waist.
“I’m here.”
Chu Fengqiu’s voice seemed to have a calming magic, giving Song Man a slight sense of stability.
“Chu Fengqiu, I want to go home.”
Song Man buried her face in Chu Fengqiu’s neck, her voice muffled.
