Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 54
“Okay, let’s go home.”
Chu Fengqiu’s fingers brushed through her hair, comforting her.
“I don’t want to go back to my place.”
Song Man grumbled. She really didn’t want to go back there. There were too many people, and Song Qinglan might be there, or she might run into her parents. She didn’t want any of that; she just wanted to go somewhere with few people.
“Okay, not your place then.”
Song Man agreed, letting Chu Fengqiu pull her hand and lead her out of the crowd.
They had entered at eight, and now it was around eight-thirty. Chu Fengqiu and Song Man left the bar, and once the door closed, the noise was shut out.
Song Man stood by the roadside, just looking at Chu Fengqiu. She wasn’t completely drunk, but she wasn’t entirely sober either.
“I’ll make a call, wait for me.”
Chu Fengqiu stroked Song Man’s hair, walked a short distance away with her phone, but kept her eyes on Song Man.
“Qiuqiu, why are you calling me so suddenly?”
The person on the other end answered, their voice carrying a hint of surprise.
“Have you been home recently?”
“Dad’s been quite busy lately… so I haven’t been able to…”
“I don’t need to hear your explanation. Is the house being cleaned?”
“Yes, the cleaning lady goes once a week.”
“You’re not coming back today, are you?”
“I’m not free today. I’m at your aunt’s place.”
“Alright then. Good night.”
Chu Fengqiu hung up the phone decisively and walked back towards Song Man.
“Where are we going?”
Song Man looked at Chu Fengqiu, her eyes hazy with a watery film.
“Somewhere quiet.”
Chu Fengqiu held Song Man’s hand tightly and hailed a taxi.
They got out at the entrance of a residential complex. Song Man thought this might be Chu Fengqiu’s place.
“Chu Fengqiu, let’s buy some alcohol to drink back home.”
Song Man pointed at the supermarket at the entrance, pulling Chu Fengqiu towards it.
“Still drinking?”
“Drink! Of course, drink!”
Song Man hadn’t had enough at the bar; it was too noisy there. She just wanted to drink quietly.
“Okay.”
Chu Fengqiu didn’t want Song Man to get drunk outside, but she also didn’t mind Song Man getting drunk in front of her. With her own little thoughts, she went into the supermarket with Song Man.
Chu Fengqiu came out carrying a bag of beer, holding Song Man’s hand with the other.
Song Man was walking a bit unsteadily. She had already drunk quite a bit at the bar and now felt like she was walking on soft clouds instead of the ground. She was still conscious, but she couldn’t quite control her wobbly steps.
Chu Fengqiu took Song Man up to the tenth floor by elevator and unlocked the door with her fingerprint.
“It really is your place.”
“It’s where I used to live. I’ll get you some slippers.”
Chu Fengqiu put the beer on the floor, closed the door after Song Man came in, and got slippers for Song Man from the shoe cabinet.
She actually didn’t want to say this was her home. In Chu Fengqiu’s heart, her home was only Sulan Town, and perhaps in the future, it would include a place for her and Song Man.
Song Man walked inside in the slippers, not really looking around the apartment. She plopped down directly onto the living room floor, facing the balcony and looking at the lights shining in from outside.
“The floor is cold.”
“It’s okay, I’m hot.”
Song Man mumbled, tugging at her clothes to cool down.
Chu Fengqiu turned the air conditioning to 26 degrees Celsius and sat on the floor with Song Man.
Song Man opened a can of beer and chugged it. Drinking alone was boring, but it was different with someone accompanying her.
“Cheers.”
Song Man raised her can. Chu Fengqiu touched it with her own can, and they both drank.
“Chu Fengqiu, have you ever really hated someone?”
Song Man leaned against the sofa, tilting her head to look at Chu Fengqiu.
The lights weren’t on in the room, so she couldn’t see Chu Fengqiu’s expression clearly. Song Man leaned closer, gazing at Chu Fengqiu, determined to see her face.
Chu Fengqiu was amused by Song Man’s action and leaned closer too, letting her see clearly.
“Yes.”
“You too? I thought you were the type who didn’t take anything to heart.”
Song Man seemed a little tired and just lay down on the floor, not getting up.
“I hate someone, and she hates me too.”
Song Man spoke somewhat incoherently, her brows furrowed tightly.
“Thinking about her is so annoying. She’s the dumbest person in the world, she’s an idiot.”
Song Man cursed vaguely, taking a gulp of beer.
She was lying down, and the liquid dripped down her chin, wetting the front of her chest and clinging to her body.
Chu Fengqiu didn’t remember how much she had drunk. Song Man kept pulling her to drink, wanting to toast with her. So she drank while listening to Song Man’s quiet rambling, until Song Man fell silent. She looked over and realized she had also drunk quite a bit.
“Song Man, Song Man?”
She leaned closer to the person lying on the floor, calling her name softly.
Song Man’s only response was her steady breathing.
Chu Fengqiu stood up, stumbling slightly as she did, feeling a bit dizzy herself.
She helped Song Man up from the floor. Song Man was startled awake by her movement and struggled reluctantly, wanting to stay lying on the floor.
“Song Man, let’s go back to the room to sleep. Sleeping here won’t be comfortable.”
Song Man seemed to have heard her, grumbling for a while, but still managed to stand up with difficulty, looking wronged.
“Uncomfortable, I want to shower.”
“Okay, shower. I’ll go run the water for you.”
Chu Fengqiu helped Song Man to her room and closed the door.
“Manman, come on, take off your clothes yourself first. I’ll adjust the water temperature for you.”
Chu Fengqiu looked at Song Man, making sure Song Man’s eyes were open and she heard her, before walking into the bathroom.
Chu Fengqiu’s steps were also a bit unsteady. She shook her head to try and stay clear-headed.
When she had adjusted the water temperature and came out to check on Song Man, she saw Song Man wrestling with her clothes and laughed out loud.
“Chu Fengqiu, come save me quickly, I can’t see anything.”
Song Man’s clothes were stuck around her head, and she was struggling hard.
Chu Fengqiu helped Song Man pull her clothes off. Song Man collapsed onto Chu Fengqiu, mumbling “So tired.”
“Then how about we just sleep like this?”
“No,” Song Man immediately shook her head. “Need to shower.”
Her cheeks were flushed red, and she didn’t look very sober.
Chu Fengqiu supported Song Man into the bathroom, and afraid she might slip, stayed nearby to watch her.
Song Man stood under the showerhead. The warm water flow cleared her head for a moment, allowing her to easily undo the restraints on her body and toss them aside.
In the hazy mist, she saw Chu Fengqiu standing not far away, and her eyes darted around.
“Chu Fengqiu, come here, I want to tell you something.”
Her voice carried a mysterious tone, as if she was about to reveal something important.
Chu Fengqiu walked over, but was suddenly pulled under the water by Song Man, getting completely soaked.
“Pfft hahaha, I was kidding.”
Song Man looked like she had successfully played a prank, wrapping her arms around Chu Fengqiu’s neck.
“Let’s shower together.”
Good sisters should shower together!
Chu Fengqiu stared blankly at Song Man in front of her. If the feeling of water rushing over her body hadn’t been so clear, she would have thought this was a hazy dream.
The girl in front of her had a beautiful face, her cheeks rosy, and she was the person in Chu Fengqiu’s heart.
“Okay.”
Chu Fengqiu said hoarsely, trying her best to stay sober.
But the steam rose, and her body seemed to become lighter. The scenery in front of her was a little blurry, and the snowy waves swayed, making her heart sway with them.
Song Man scooped up water intermittently, splashing it on Chu Fengqiu when she got close.
“I want to use body wash.”
“Okay, I’ll get it for you.”
Chu Fengqiu bent down, pressed the foam into her palm, and applied it to Song Man’s neck, letting her rub it in herself.
Song Man felt tired after rubbing for a while and didn’t even want to lift her hands. She had been pampered since she was little and insisted that Chu Fengqiu do it for her.
Chu Fengqiu’s throat bobbed. Her eyes were deep.
It wasn’t her fault. She was drunk too. Even if Song Man remembered tomorrow, she should know that she was just helping, and definitely had no other bad intentions.
Song Man felt lazy all over, not wanting to move at all, just wanting to sleep well and not think about anything.
She looked at the person in front of her, feeling hazy and unable to see clearly.
She leaned forward, seeming to bump into something soft. The shower water fell, flowing into her mouth, relieving the dryness.
Song Man took the water, not thinking about whether it was tap water or if it was drinkable.
Chu Fengqiu stood frozen in place, feeling Song Man’s still unaware actions.
The sensation traveled from her tongue to her heart, a tremor from her soul, speaking of the joy and craving of having her.
She was the one who started it.
Chu Fengqiu thought.
She was the one who recklessly and unknowingly opened the cage that restrained the beast.
Therefore, she had to take responsibility.
Steam filled the entire bathroom, obscuring the mirror and also concealing the figures embracing under the water.
The jarring ring of her phone woke Song Man from her dream.
She sat up abruptly, looking at the sun outside the window and the unfamiliar room layout, still a bit disoriented.
The phone was still ringing. Song Man hung up without looking to see who it was, pressing her head. The hangover made her head throb.
Some fragmented memories seemed to flash in her mind, but quickly blurred again, leaving her unable to recall anything.
She looked to the side and saw Chu Fengqiu sleeping there.
Chu Fengqiu was sleeping peacefully, not moving at all.
Song Man’s memory seemed to return a little. She remembered coming to Chu Fengqiu’s place with Chu Fengqiu last night, and then she got drunk.
Song Man looked at the pajamas she was wearing. Chu Fengqiu must have helped her change.
How could she have such a thoughtful sister!
Song Man picked up her phone and checked the time. It was already ten o’clock.
“Holy crap, Chu Fengqiu, it’s ten o’clock! Get up! We’re going to be late!”
Chu Fengqiu was startled awake by Song Man’s outburst, sitting up like someone gravely ill.
Chu Fengqiu’s expression was blank for a moment, then she rubbed her temples, remembering something very important.
“Today is Saturday, I think.”
Saturday was a day off.
Song Man checked the time. Hey, it really was.
“Then you can keep sleeping.”
“I’ll get up and wash up.”
Chu Fengqiu sat up. The fragments from last night replayed in her mind, and her eyes widened.
She looked at Song Man, who was looking back at her with a confused expression.
“Do you remember what happened last night?”
“Did I go crazy from drinking again?”
Song Man countered.
“I was drunk last night too, I don’t remember either.”
The light in Chu Fengqiu’s eyes dimmed, and then she shook her head at Song Man.
“Then it should be fine, right?”
“Okay, I’ll go find you some new toiletries. Wait for me.”
“Okay.”
Song Man watched Chu Fengqiu walk out, scratching her head.
She was too embarrassed to tell her sister that she had dreamed of kissing someone last night. It was too strange. How could she have such a dream? She wasn’t even feeling romantic.
But it felt so real. She just couldn’t remember the face of the person in the dream, but maybe that was just because it was a dream.
Song Man touched her lips, then shook off the inexplicable thoughts in her head and picked up her phone.
What she didn’t know was that just beyond the door, Chu Fengqiu leaned against the wall, gently touching her lips, her face full of joy.
