Let's Do Some Questions - Chapter 92
Song Man’s head was still spinning when she was placed on the bed. She could hardly believe Chu Fengqiu had actually come back.
“How did you get here?”
Song Man was so happy she didn’t know what to say, only holding Chu Fengqiu tightly.
She was truly happy to the point of tears.
The person she longed to see suddenly appeared before her, and she knew it couldn’t have been easy.
“I found the uncle across the hall and told him I had something very important and absolutely had to come to Qingcheng. He agreed without a second thought.”
“He’s so nice. Where is the uncle?”
“I let him rest at a hotel first.”
“Then you still have to leave, right?”
Song Man knew Chu Fengqiu had to leave. Today was Lunar New Year’s Eve, and she had to go back to Sulan to be with Grandpa and Grandma.
She couldn’t go back with Chu Fengqiu; there was nothing she could do about it.
“Yes, I’ll leave when it’s light. Get a good night’s sleep; I’ll stay with you.”
Chu Fengqiu took off her outer clothes, got into the covers, reached out to stroke Song Man’s hair, and lay on her side, looking at her.
Song Man lay down, looking at Chu Fengqiu’s eyebrows and eyes, which appeared exceptionally gentle under the dim bedside lamp.
How could this person be so good?
How could she be so, so, so good?
And such a good person belonged to her.
Song Man moved a little closer to Chu Fengqiu, putting her hand on Chu Fengqiu’s waist and wrapping her leg around her, snuggling closer.
Chu Fengqiu knew Song Man couldn’t sleep with the light on, so she reached up and turned off the bedside lamp, pulling Song Man into her arms.
The curtains were drawn, blocking out the light, leaving the room in quiet darkness.
Song Man closed her eyes but wasn’t sleepy, moving restlessly.
“Can’t sleep?”
Chu Fengqiu already had many questions in her heart. The fatigue from traveling made her voice a little hoarse, which sounded even gentler against the backdrop of the night.
“A little.”
“What nightmare did you have just now?”
Chu Fengqiu remembered what Song Man said when she opened the door and Song Man rushed into her arms. There were other things she wanted to ask.
“It was similar to the nightmares I told you about before, but a little different.”
“What did you dream about?”
“Hmm…”
Song Man hesitated whether to say it. In this dream, her consciousness seemed particularly clear, and it was this clarity that made her feel even more terrified.
She wasn’t being chased anymore; instead, she appeared at a funeral from the start.
The atmosphere around her made her feel suffocated and unable to breathe. She couldn’t see the people around her, only feeling the oppression.
She saw the person in the portrait of the deceased. Suddenly, the dream shattered and shifted. She stood as an observer, watching someone being pushed into that river.
On the inner side of the river channel were those square holes, one by one, like incinerators. She saw the person who was pushed into the river lying there, being pushed in little by little.
Then she was startled awake by her phone ringing, her heart cold when she woke up.
The person in the portrait, the one pushed into the river and into the incinerator in her dream, was defined as Song Qinglan.
Song Man didn’t know why she had such a dream, nor did she know if she should tell Chu Fengqiu about it.
This seemed to show her dark resentment, but in fact, Song Man had never thought it would be better if Song Qinglan didn’t exist. She had never had that thought.
But why… could it be because she had nightmares before, argued with Song Qinglan today, was very angry, and so substituted Song Qinglan into the dream?
“Can’t remember?”
“Yeah…”
Song Man still chose not to say it. Dreaming that someone died because she argued with them would sound really dark, especially in front of Chu Fengqiu. She didn’t want to show that side of herself even more.
It seemed that after falling in love, she deliberately didn’t want to show her bad side.
“If you can’t remember, don’t try to recall it.”
“Okay, alright.”
Song Man responded softly, keeping her eyes open, still wide awake.
“Chu Fengqiu, you say…”
If things didn’t develop in the direction she hoped, what should she do?
Now that things had been made clear, Song Man was less willing to hide her abilities.
She wanted to truly show her strength, and then Song Qinglan would inevitably overthink things.
Song Qinglan was a sensitive, suspicious person with no sense of security at all.
How could she handle this well and minimize the harm to everyone?
“Hmm?”
Chu Fengqiu made a questioning sound, waiting for Song Man to continue.
Song Man paused, unsure how to go on.
“Manman, I hope you know that I want to understand everything about you, want to know all your thoughts, want to know if you’re happy or not… So, if something is on your mind, you can tell me. I am very willing and very much want to understand, because you are my lover.”
Chu Fengqiu’s last two words were like honey with a fragrant sweetness. Song Man felt her tongue tip sweeten just by listening.
“I don’t know how to say it.”
Song Man was very hesitant. It wasn’t that she wasn’t willing to say it, but that she didn’t know how to say it.
Thinking about this matter now, she only felt chaotic and terrible, without much anger. The emotions mixed in were too messy, making her unsure how to speak.
“Actually, it’s okay if you don’t say it. I just don’t want you to be unhappy.”
“I’m not unhappy now that you’re here. I’m just a little… how to say it, very disappointed. Sometimes I feel very anxious. Thinking about these things makes me particularly annoyed and powerless, like I’m just worrying uselessly.”
The unpredictable future inevitably caused anxiety, and Song Man’s anxiety and negativity came from the seemingly harmonious but actually contradictory reality within her family.
It felt like something was about to burst out from her heart, yet also like there was nothing there.
Of course, Song Man wasn’t always like this. Most of the time, she wouldn’t think too much, being very confident and carefree, but when it came to family matters, her head ached.
“It’s okay. It’s normal to have these emotions. Everyone is like this, including me.”
Chu Fengqiu’s fingertips stroked Song Man’s hair ends, her voice soft and low as she held the girl.
“Did you know Song Qinglan isn’t my biological sister?”
Song Man seemed to have organized her words and spoke to Chu Fengqiu.
Late nights always seemed to make people want to talk about something. In the hazy night, half-asleep and half-awake, consciousness seemed to be numbed and relaxed, and the person listening was someone who loved and cared for you wholeheartedly. This desire to confide seemed greatly amplified.
“I know now.”
Chu Fengqiu was surprised for a moment. She really didn’t know the relationship between the two sisters.
“My dad is my mom’s second husband. Let’s put it this way, for example, my dad is my mom’s second marriage, Song Qinglan is the child from the original marriage, and I came later, which makes her status awkward because the family property was originally hers, and now that I’m here, I might take a share. Song Qinglan is also very insecure and always feels like I want to kick her out.”
The more Song Man spoke, the more helpless she felt, and the less sleepy she became.
“And you don’t want to.”
“Exactly! I don’t want to at all. You say, someone as smart as me, if I wanted to, I would have shown it long ago, right?”
“Right, so is that why you’ve been hiding and not showing it?”
Chu Fengqiu seemed to have found the answer to something she hadn’t understood before, but she also felt something wasn’t quite right.
This reason seemed sufficient, but upon closer thought, it felt off. How could someone with Song Man’s personality let herself appear degenerate on the surface just because it might involve family property? She could clearly be more arrogant and embrace the math she loved, completely solving this problem through action.
“Sort of.”
Song Man lightly mentioned the matter of being “killed with kindness,” without deliberately trying to sound pathetic.
In fact, Song Man had never felt that Song Qinglan treating her this way made her miserable.
She wasn’t miserable at all. She lived happily, went everywhere, had several luxury cars, and never worried about food or clothing. She was practically a real-life winner.
Instead, she felt sorry for Song Qinglan, who lost her biological father, had to endure the shock of her mother remarrying, and had such a grandfather, trapped by power, imposing his ideas on others, not trusting others, living a life that was not at all free.
After listening, Chu Fengqiu lost all sleep, frowning with a grim expression.
“Manman, you’re too soft-hearted.”
Completely different from her dominant or even somewhat overbearing demeanor, Song Man’s heart was as soft as she knew it to be.
“Not really. Saying it like this might sound a bit like a saint, but it’s not. I just feel it’s not worth it. I don’t need to become like Song Qinglan just to spite her. Whether it was fake or not, she was genuinely good to me before.”
Song Man thought that being happy was the most important thing in life.
“Besides, I have you by my side now.”
Song Man lifted her head in Chu Fengqiu’s arms and rubbed her cheek against Chu Fengqiu’s nose, suddenly feeling much better.
“I’m also very happy to have you by my side.”
Song Man looked up from Chu Fengqiu’s embrace and kissed Chu Fengqiu’s lips.
Just as she was about to kiss and run, she was held down and kissed back.
Song Man’s crimson lips were nibbled into a more alluring shade. Chu Fengqiu’s kiss, like her person, was gentle yet not lacking in dominance, wrapping around her layer by layer, causing her to fall and drown, unable to escape.
The sweet affection, seemingly tangible, wrapped around Song Man like honey. She followed Chu Fengqiu’s rhythm with her unskilled technique, wanting to take control but finding it hard to gain the upper hand.
They were both having their first relationship, so why was Chu Fengqiu’s kissing technique better than hers?
Song Man once suspected that Chu Fengqiu had taken lessons without telling her, but after seeing Chu Fengqiu perfectly peel a shrimp shell with her mouth, she could only sigh that some people were just naturally gifted and more flexible.
Tomorrow was New Year’s Day, and Chu Fengqiu wasn’t ready for “that” yet. She just kissed Song Man, left a few marks where clothes would cover, and coaxed Song Man to sleep.
In the sweet kisses, even the night became exceptionally beautiful.
Song Man closed her eyes, her mood lighter than on any previous night they had spent together.
Sharing the matters hidden in her heart with the person she loved most, it seemed that in the process of speaking, she had straightened out her attitude and found the answer.
Song Man had a good night’s sleep. In her grogginess, she felt a cool, minty kiss on her lips.
“Manman, I have to leave now.”
“Where are you going?”
Song Man’s eyes snapped open. She saw Chu Fengqiu, who had already washed up and was fully dressed, still a little disoriented.
“The uncle is already waiting for me. He still has to rush home to help. The highway will be more congested during the day than at night, so I have to go now.”
“Then be careful on the road.”
Song Man reached out and hugged Chu Fengqiu’s waist, burying her face in her embrace.
“Okay, I’ll let you know when I get home. You have to be happy later too. If you’re unhappy, just message me. I’ll always be here.”
Song Man felt that the most beautiful words Chu Fengqiu had ever said to her weren’t “I love you” or “I like you,” but rather…
I’m always here.
