- Episode 54 - Leveling Up Freaks, Put More Emphasis on Efficiency
April 6th.
Just as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, I, too, have come to Shinjuku Dungeon today.
I went down to the first floor and started running. Today, it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach the monster room on the fourth floor.
Then immediately start circling.
My goal today is to complete more laps than yesterday.
Running is a battle of efficiency.
The time it takes to complete one lap, the experience points, and the items you can get in one lap, etc. The basic principle is to consider these factors when choosing the most efficient hunting spot.
Once you have chosen your hunting spot, you will have to experiment to further reduce the time per round.
From that perspective, I felt there was still room for improvement in my running method.
Just like yesterday, I didn’t pick up any magic stones, only picked up potions as dropped items, and in battle I used 《Sword Spirit》 to limit my HP consumption to 10 per round, and also adjusted 《Sword Spirit》 so that my HP was below half, and constantly activated 《Bl00d Vengeance》. This shortened the battle time and conserved my stamina.
But I realized there were areas where I could improve.
It was about my fighting style. More specifically, I realized that there was too much waste in my movements.
What I mean is that I’m currently relying on the explorer’s superhuman physical abilities, and moving around dynamically, which could be said positively, but negatively, it’s unnecessarily large.
He is constantly on the move to avoid being targeted by Archers and Mages with long-range attack capabilities, and when dodging the attacks of the Goblins, he keeps a distance where he is sure he will not be hit.
I’m not saying that’s wrong, but it’s also true that it can lead to unnecessary waste of time and energy.
So today, I set a goal to make my movements smaller and smaller.
Little by little, you can eliminate unnecessary movements and optimize your movements.
Don’t run around unnecessarily, but position yourself wisely to place other goblins in the line of fire from archers and mages, thereby reducing the number of times you are attacked.
When attacked by a Warrior, Swordsman, or Thief in close combat, the evasive action is reduced. Gradually, until the wind pressure of the sword brushes against the surface of the body, the attack is avoided at the closest possible distance.
It didn’t work at first.
During the first hour, due to unfamiliar fighting techniques, the efficiency of my laps decreased, dropping to 15 per hour.
Still, the pursuit of efficiency is a habit of leveling freaks. I didn’t give up and continued to search for new ways to fight.
And then, 17 times, 19 times, 21 times, with each battle, the time spent fighting got shorter and shorter.
My body is getting used to this new fighting style. Without a doubt, my movements are becoming more refined. It’s amusing how my fighting style is becoming better and more skillful. I can tell that even I.
“Could it be… that my hidden talent has blossomed…?”
I trembled in fear, thinking that, but I knew that it wasn’t the case.
The reason why my skills improved so quickly wasn’t because I had any talent for fighting.
This is simply one of the effects of the status.
Yes, it is the effect of the ability score 《Dexterity》.
The effects of Dexterity were not limited to the control of the body and magical powers. It also had the effect of increasing the speed at which one could learn techniques that used the body.
With his base ability score now exceeding 60, his fighting skills have improved so much that it’s as if he’s become a genius.
And it’s 4 pm.
Five hours and twenty minutes into today’s lap, I was fully awake.
From 4:00 to 5:00, the number of laps around the Monster Room per hour was 30.
From 5 to 6 o’clock, 33 times.
And now the last hour of the day. My physical strength still showed no signs of running out, and my concentration, far from wavering, had increased, as if I had entered the zone.
I dodged all of the attacks by the very last moment, barely brushing the surface of my body. Each small evasive movement gave me more room to act. Finally, my evasive movements and attacks became one, and I stepped boldly into the center of the group of goblins, swinging my sword in a dancing motion, slashing and slashing and slashing my enemies down with ease.
From 6 to 7 p.m.–36 times.
Still, his breathing was unremitting.
–Today’s results.

Yes, that’s it!
You’ve gone up two levels!
And then one more skill is added.
Below are the details of the skills.

【skill】
<<Danger Detection Level 1>>—Able to detect danger.
————————————————–
But isn’t that exactly the case?!
Just like 《Provoke》, this skill description has no numerical values! And the explanation is sloppy!
Some people may wonder, “Is this skill even usable?”, but it’s a fairly rare skill.
The reason is, the number of laps today suddenly increased halfway through because I acquired this skill.
Well, as I continued to do my best to avoid the goblins’ attacks in style, the skill 《Danger Perception》 was added to the 《List of Acquirable Skills》.
I frequently open my status to check things like the experience points I have left to level up, and at that moment, my finger happened to touch the skills section, and when the list was displayed, I noticed something.
However, it wasn’t on the list when I got home yesterday, so it must have become available after I started running around today.
So, why did the skill 《Danger Detection》 suddenly appear in the list of skills I could acquire? Well… in all likelihood, it was probably because of the way I fought today.
The reason why it is difficult to say anything definite is that the conditions for acquiring 《Danger Sense》 are not known. However, there is a vague tendency, and it is said that it can be acquired by “exposing oneself to danger of losing one’s life many times.”
However, the degree of difficulty seems to be quite severe, and there aren’t many explorers who can acquire this skill.
However, the skill’s performance is quite excellent; for example, “when you are about to be slashed with a sword, a chill will run through the area that will be slashed, alerting you to the danger.”
This is a very useful skill as it reacts to attacks from blind spots.
Moreover, as the skill level increases, it seems that one can not only sense chills but also perceive them in clearer visual images, and even be able to grasp, for example, how long it will take for an attack to come.
It’s a coveted skill that any warrior-type explorer would want.
So, this time I used the skill points I had been planning to save up and quickly acquired it. But it was worth it, as the battles became much more stable.
If you feel a chill in the air when you sense the attack coming, it means that you know where the enemy is aiming, and if you concentrate even more, you can see the distance of the enemy’s attack.
This is because, if you move to a place where you cannot be hit by attacks, it becomes clear what distance you can and cannot be hit by attacks.
In other words, by using this skill, I was able to grasp the enemy’s aim and distance with high accuracy, allowing me to evade attacks with the minimum of movement.
Seriously, Danger Sense is a godly skill even at level 1.
Thanks to Detect Presence-san, not only has my round efficiency increased, but I also feel like my combat ability has improved dramatically.
It was all thanks to these laps that I was able to meet such an excellent “Danger Detector”…
“After all, going around in circles…!! Going around in circles solves everything…!!”
I was excited at how efficiently I would be able to get around the monster room the next day, and headed home – but,
“Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat…!?”
“Someone, someone, please help me!!!”
“–On?”
As we were heading towards the teleportation circle on the fourth floor from the monster room, we heard that scream.
It feels like deja vu…
