Little Blind Girl - Chapter 6
When it was almost time for class, the number of students in the classroom suddenly increased. Some girls looked out, not knowing who Ke Congying was looking at. They had shy smiles on their faces as they whispered to each other.
Su Ruan was engrossed in her book when someone suddenly pulled her long hair. She leaned back slightly in pain, and a boy said with a smile, “I’m sorry~ It was an accident~” As he spoke, he pulled again.
Su Ruan waited for the pain to subside, then continued to lower her head to “read” the book, but the movement of her index finger on the book became slower and slower.
A strand of her hair was pulled by a boy behind her, slowly pulling little by little until he pulled her whole head back before gently cutting off the strand with scissors.
The sound was very soft, but it hit Su Ruan’s ears like thunder and exploded loudly. Her fingers froze and her entire spine stiffened.
Once in the second grade, her hair was cut by the classmates sitting behind her. At the time, she was taking a short nap. When she woke up, she was pretty much bald, her hair was almost gone. She cried all the way home. The pranksters were given a light scolding, and even their apology was insincere.
From childhood to now, Su Ruan had failed to protect each and every part of her body. In her short seventeen years of life, she had learned one thing: tolerance.
She robotically and stiffly used her index finger to “read” the book as usual. Even when the long hair around her ear was picked up, she clenched her teeth and softly traced the words on the book:
It was strange that he had not thought of dying during a time of agony. That was often the case with unfortunate people. He cherished life, but saw hell just behind him. — [Notre Dame de Paris]
A voice suddenly exploded next to her ear, followed by screams and yells. The sounds flooded into Su Ruan’s mind like a flood, chaotic and overwhelming. She wanted to cover her ears, but amidst the earth-shattering sounds, she heard a slightly familiar roar.
“Fuck you! If you touch one more fucking hair on her…”
The moment the voice sounded, Su Ruan realized that her face was wet, and she reached out to touch it. It was tears.
Ke Congying had only lowered his head to reply to a message, but when he looked back up, Su Ruan’s hair had been cut off. The two male students behind her were snickering happily while lifting the hair around her ears, ready to cut another strand. He didn’t have time to think about what Su Ruan had experienced in the past, to not even react when her hair was cut off.
The flames of anger in his chest threatened to burst out. The scissors clearly cut Su Ruan’s hair, but it felt like they were cutting his heart into pieces.
Ke Congying beat up three boys in a row, pushing them to the ground and punching them half to death. Many classmates tried to break up the fight, but they were all beaten up by him. After beating them, he glared at the students in the class and pointed at them one by one with his index finger.
“I’m telling you now, whoever dares to touch Su Ruan, this is the consequence!”
He raised his foot and viciously kicked a male classmate on the ground, immediately eliciting a howl of pain.
The homeroom teacher and the dean rushed over. When they reached the classroom door and saw the pitiful sight inside, their faces immediately changed. The dean recognized Ke Congying, and shouted, “Ke Congying! Go and stand in my office!”
Ke Congying straightened his clothes and walked through the crowd toward the entrance. When he reached Su Ruan’s desk, he stopped briefly and looked down at the book in her hand. It was a Braille book, and the pages were densely stacked with bumps that looked like pinholes.
Su Ruan sensed his presence, which came with the smell of smoke and a little sweat wafting into her nostrils. She tightened her fingers and then heard him ask, “What book are you reading?”
Her throat was a little tight, but she opened her mouth to answer earnestly in a soft, nasal voice. “Notre Dame de Paris.”
Beryline: I’ll be honest. The amount of bullying SR received is unhealthy and this isn’t the worst of it.
