Little Blind Girl - Chapter 7
“Ke Congying!”
Seeing that the kid still had the nerve to talk to that special student in Class One, the dean couldn’t help but yell again, “Get over here!”
“Got it.” Ke Congying gave a cursory reply and slowly walked away.
As Su Ruan sat in her seat, all the voices in her ears disappeared like a receding tide. Her mind was blank, only the name shouted by the dean remained.
Ke Congying.
She had heard the name before, as the girls in the class often talked about him.
The homeroom teacher and the dean took the students who were involved in the fight and left. They then called a few more students for questioning, and finally asked for Su Ruan to go to the office.
The homeroom teacher, Liang Yumei, personally came to escort her. On the way, the teacher asked her, “Do you know Ke Congying from Class Thirteen?”
Su Ruan didn’t know how to answer, so she could only tell a half-truth, “I met someone at the gate at noon. I was almost hit by a car, he… saved me.”
Liang Yumei seemed to have come to an understanding. Male students at this age liked to have fantasize about being a hero and saving the damsel. Ke Congying probably saw that Su Ruan was blind and found her pitiful, so he wanted to be her hero and stand up for her.
“He said that the male students behind you cut your hair, are you aware of that?”
Su Ruan stopped and turned her face in Liang Yumei’s direction. “Teacher, can’t you see?”
Her voice was very soft but devoid of emotion. Upon a closer listen, faint mockery could be heard in it.
Liang Yumei was stunned for a moment, and then she noticed that the back of Su Ruan’s hair was indeed missing a small part. “I will let those classmates apologize to you…”
Before she could finish speaking, she heard Su Ruan say, “No thanks, I don’t need it.”
Liang Yumei was about to say something else, but Su Ruan spoke again. “Teacher, can I get my hair back if they apologize?” Her voice was very soft, but Liang Yumei was left speechless.
In the office, Ke Congying stood lazily. Beside him were three fellow male students, their faces bruised from the beating he had given them before.
The Dean was still lecturing Ke Congying, “Don’t think that just because your parents are divorced that no one will discipline you! How old are you already?! Huh?! The college entrance exams are next year! If you won’t work hard for your parents, at least work hard for yourself!”
“You’re an intelligent boy, if you just put in a little more effort, you wouldn’t be in this current state! Compare your grades in junior high to your current grades! Back then, you were number one! Look at you now! The last in the whole school!”
When the Dean saw Su Ruan come in, he stopped talking. He took a sip of tea and dismissed Ke Congying with a wave of his hand. “Get out of here. Go home and call your father or mother, no matter who comes, this matter must be resolved today.”
“I haven’t done anything wrong, there’s no need to call them here.” Ke Congying glanced at the three boys with bruised noses and swollen faces, then turned to Su Ruan at the door.
Wearing a school uniform, she was helped in by her teacher, who found a chair and sat her down.
“You haven’t done anything wrong!?” The Dean slapped the table angrily, “Hitting someone is wrong! You still won’t admit your mistake!”
“What about them? Is it right to cut someone’s hair?” Ke Congying smiled mockingly, “What’s the point of bullying a blind girl?”
Su Ruan’s fingers twitched. Many people in the class called her a blind girl, contemptuously, mockingly, or to follow the crowd. This was the first time she heard the words “blind girl” from this boy. She didn’t feel any resentment or hatred in her heart. On the contrary, she was almost overwhelmed by the sorrow that surged up in an instant. Her eye sockets were so hot that she could only lower her head and forcefully suppress the stinging sensation.
