Little Blind Girl - Chapter 9
“Boss! I want a bottle of cold cola!”
Su Ruan was startled by the familiar voice, and she fumbled to open the window. She lived in a sunny room on the second floor, but the windows were rarely opened. The window was only half open, but that familiar voice became clearer.
“Why are you all wet?” The shopkeeper asked.
“I was punished by the teacher to clean the toilets…” Ke Congying replied. “I already took a shower, and now my body smells really nice. If you don’t believe me, smell me…”
“What did you do wrong?” The shopkeeper asked with a smile.
“Molesting a female classmate.”
“Hahahahaha…”
Su Ruan hid under the window and listened to the voices outside, and her emotions gradually calmed down. She wiped the tears from her face, and then took off the soft cloth that was soaked from her eyes.
“Ruanruan! We’re leaving! We’ve locked the door!” Her parents’ came from downstairs.
Su Ruan opened the door and replied, “Okay!”
Then she turned around and walked back into the room. She sat down at the desk, she found a piece of white paper, then took a pen, pressed the Braille ruler to the paper, and began to write.
I’m sorry, Mom and Dad.
By the time you read this letter, I may not be here anymore.
I’m sorry for this decision. But I can’t take it anymore…
Over the years, she had written many letters like this, but she tore them up after writing each time.
She was not reconciled.
She worked hard to live.
She was not reconciled to giving up, to letting things end here just because of such a thing. She wanted to quickly grow up. Maybe when she was all grown up and wise, the ridicule and jokes would stay away from her.
Suddenly, a rock was thrown at the window.
She paused for a moment, thinking she had misheard, and continued to write. When the second rock hit, something fell on the table, and she reached out to touch it. When she came into contact with it, she rubbed it with her fingertips. It wasn’t a rock, it was candy. She pushed open the window.
The sunshine felt so good, accompanied by the singing of birds and the scent of flowers. All of it squeezed in through the narrow window in an instant. She couldn’t tell the direction and could only stand at the window and ask, “Who is it?”
Ke Congying’s voice echoed from below, “It’s me.”
She knew it was him. “What are you doing?”
“What are you doing?” he asked back without answering her question.
Su Ruan pursed her lips. She was writing a suicide letter. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she said to him, “Thank you for today.”
Ke Congying could tell something was off about her expression, but before he had time to think about what she was doing in the room, he saw that she was about to close the window and quickly called out, “Buy me a drink!”
Su Ruan paused for a moment, resting her fingers on the window, then went to the cabinet to find her wallet.
“Come down and buy me a drink!” Ke Congying added.
Su Ruan found her wallet, held it in her hand, and said to the window, “The door is locked, I can’t go out.”
“There’s no key?” Ke Congying asked.
There was, it was on the doorway wall.
Su Ruan hesitated for a moment, then said to him, “Wait a minute.”
She put away the pen and paper, and then went downstairs with the help of the banister. After finding the key on the wall, she went back upstairs, put the key in her wallet and threw it down.
“Did you get it?” she asked.
“No–”
Su Ruan was about to speak when she heard the rattling sound of the door lock. She knew that he had the key, so she closed the window, took a clean piece of cloth and put it over her eyes, then went downstairs.
Ke Congying didn’t enter the house. He stood at the door and waited for her to come out after changing her shoes, and then returned the wallet to her.
Su Ruan walked into the small supermarket with the cane in her hand. The shopkeeper recognized her and was about to greet her when he saw Ke Congying following the young girl.
The boss gave him a look and whispered, “Shoo you! She’s a good girl, don’t be harassing her.”
Ke Congying was at a loss for words for a moment. After a while, he said with a dark face, “Bro, I was just joking earlier! Do I look like someone who harasses girls?”
The shopkeeper looked at him, “Yes.”
“…Fuck!”
Su Ruan, who was browsing the shelves, couldn’t help but bend over, pretending to fiddle with her shoes. Once she had laughed enough, she straightened back up.
She had a lot of pocket money, which was saved from the money given by relatives during Chinese New Year. She rarely used it. Her parents sometimes gave her a little, which she also saved up.
Since she rarely ate snacks and didn’t buy things randomly, she couldn’t tell which shelf sold snacks and could only touch the shelves with her hands. This went on until another hand appeared and grabbed her little hand. It pulled her to the snack section, placed her hand on a bag of corn chips, and then let go.
