- Chapter 1 - Section 14
By the time I got home, it was past midnight, almost one o’clock. Xixi was already awake. Where were you? You didn’t even take your phone.
Oh, I went downstairs to get a drink. I was feeling restless, so I sat in the garden and smoked a few cigarettes. I held up two cans of cola, showing how meticulously I’d prepared my lie—even buying props.
Xixi took a can, popped it open, and leaned her head on my shoulder. My dad’s been causing trouble for years. Ever since I can remember, it’s never stopped. But today, I’m finally glad I stood up to him.
Xixi, adults should handle their own problems.
You think I want to get involved? Ever since I was little, all I’ve wanted was for my mom to agree to a divorce. She sighed. Fine. All I can do is be angry with her. I’m staying here for now. I don’t want to go back.
Alright, let’s get you to bed, I said, helping Xixi onto the mattress. She chuckled, Stop fussing! You think I’m that fragile? Oh, right, remember that massage card I got you at the beauty salon last time? I’ll go tomorrow and get these old bones kneaded. Ugh, that bastard really went for it. I wonder if he’s even my real father.
As soon as Xixi spoke those words, my heart leaped into my throat. Do the second and third female leads in this drama have to be so intense? What’s with all the drama-stealing, conflict-stirring, and ratings-chasing? What about the poor female lead?!
Xixi, don’t go. Even a light touch hurts you. How can you handle someone kneading you?
I’m not going to work tomorrow anyway, so I’ll be bored. You can’t stop me. I’ll take your card and go myself while you’re at work. Xixi flashed a V sign under my nose. No more arguing! One more word and I’ll poke you!
Fine, fine. I might as well embrace my fate. As the saying goes, you can’t hide fire with paper, especially Lao Mi’s twisted, hellish flames. Who the hell knows when they’ll ignite? If Xixi wants to go, let her. If Lao Mi’s determined to tell her, there’s no point in trying to stop it.
But the next morning, the first thing I did was call Lao Mi. Xixi might come by today. She’s feeling a bit unwell and wants a massage… Before I could finish, Lao Mi cut me off. No need to warn me. I have no interest in her.
After hanging up, I suddenly felt like we’d become a pair of scheming lovers, exchanging secret messages. Sh1t!
