Long Time No See (GL) - Chapter 29
Gu Weirong was very sensitive to the subtle changes in Yun Shu’s expression, and she felt that Yun Shu seemed to be in a bad mood today.
From responding to Ming Yan’s invitation to talking with her, she remained cold and aloof.
Sometimes she didn’t know where Yun Shu’s feelings lay?
At the company, even when she smiled, others would be intimidated by her imposing aura.
In private, most of the time she was gentle and humorous, only occasionally experiencing emotional fluctuations.
She couldn’t figure out Yun Shu’s thoughts, which was very frustrating.
When Yun Shu smiled, the whole world was bright. When Yun Shu was unhappy, it was like the calm before a storm, pressuring and suffocating.
Near closing time, all employees of Mingde received an email with a personnel appointment notice from the headquarters. The content was that Ming Yan was appointed as the Human Resources Director of Mingde Group, in charge of personnel transfers.
Everyone was astonished, including Gu Weirong. This kind of high-level parachute appointment was unprecedented, but because this person was the chairman’s daughter, everyone felt it was expected and reasonable.
In other words, Ming Yan’s position was above Gu Weirong’s, and she would have to call her “President Ming” from now on.
How frustrating! People born with a silver spoon are superior in everything they do.
Gu Weirong wanted to leave Mingde, but leaving meant that her time with Yun Shu was also over. If she didn’t leave, she would likely be suppressed by Ming Yan in the future.
Given her obsession with Yun Shu, she would cling to Xuan’an even if she had to, and the two of them would probably have to see each other constantly from now on.
No matter. Even if Ming Yan’s position was higher than hers and her wealth surpassed hers, she would not back down!
Gu Weirong secretly vowed to use her advantages and efforts to keep Yun Shu in Xuan’an.
After Yun Shu left, the next door went quiet. Gu Weirong thought she had gone and clocked out on time.
Unexpectedly, she bumped into her at the elevator entrance.
The two looked at each other, neither speaking.
As the floor numbers changed step by step, Gu Weirong wanted to say something, but her mood was awkward, so she chose to remain silent.
“I’ll be back a little late today.” Yun Shu explained her schedule to Gu Weirong as usual.
Gu Weirong raised her eyes and deliberately asked, “Are you still sending your location this time?”
“No.”
Gu Weirong glared at her sullenly, “Then don’t send it.”
The elevator reached the first floor. She walked forward glumly, and Yun Shu followed closely. Just as they reached the door, they saw a red Porsche sports car drive up quickly, looking very showy.
The car stopped in front of Yun Shu. Ming Yan poked her head out and smiled, “Beautiful, need a ride?”
“New car?”
“Mmm-hmm, just driving it around.” Ming Yan got out of the car and opened the door for Yun Shu. She then noticed Gu Weirong was also there, “Oh, you work at Mingde?”
“As the HR Director, shouldn’t President Ming be very familiar with personnel matters?”
Gu Weirong’s tone was full of hostility, and Ming Yan was not to be outdone, “Do you know how many employees Mingde has? The headquarters alone has 327 people, and the national employees number over ten thousand. As a new official, I can only familiarize myself with the level of city general managers, project general managers, marketing general managers, and planning general managers. For lower positions, my brain capacity is simply insufficient.”
Her tone was filled with the superiority of a high-level executive. Gu Weirong scoffed softly and smiled, “So it’s normal that you don’t know petty little people like us. Why bother asking?”
“I just feel like you’re a persistent ghost.” Ming Yan felt Gu Weirong was a great threat to her. Gu Weirong had known Yun Shu longer, and their shared experiences were something she could only dream of.
She had to admit that sometimes she envied and was jealous of Gu Weirong, but she wouldn’t easily let others snatch Yun Shu away, including this stepdaughter.
Gu Weirong didn’t yield either, hitting back, “The feeling is mutual. I also feel like you’re everywhere?!”
The two confronted each other, glaring with murderous looks, as if an invisible electric spark was erupting, with war about to break out.
Yun Shu rubbed her forehead and was about to speak to stop them when she heard a honking sound.
“Weirong, over here.”
It turned out that Yang Ou hadn’t left after his meeting and was waiting to pick up Gu Weirong.
“You haven’t left yet?”
“Waiting for you.” Yang Ou got out of the car like a gentleman and opened the door for her. Gu Weirong looked at Yun Shu. Yun Shu didn’t meet her gaze, sitting into the car expressionlessly.
“Tsk tsk, so you have a boyfriend. He looks pretty good. Wishing you a long and happy life together.” Ming Yan couldn’t wait for someone to claim Gu Weirong.
Gu Weirong’s face darkened, and she didn’t want to engage in any more verbal sparring with her.
The two cars drove one after the other.
Yun Shu sat in the passenger seat, her beautiful eyes slightly raised, glimpsing Gu Weirong in the rear-view mirror. She was leaning against the window, seemingly looking at her.
Ming Yan’s car zoomed away, pulling Gu Weirong out of Yun Shu’s sight.
So she had an appointment with Yang Ou today. Their intimacy exceeded her expectations. Were they boyfriend and girlfriend? Or a developing romantic relationship?
Yang Ou was full of youthful vigor and very caring toward Weirong. What did Weirong herself think?
Yun Shu lowered her head, pondering, and couldn’t help but think a lot.
“Sister Yun, was that man Gu Weirong’s boyfriend just now?” Ming Yan started gossiping, eager for someone to claim Gu Weirong so she wouldn’t get in her way.
“I’m not sure.” Yun Shu answered faintly.
“I think they look quite compatible.”
Yun Shu gave a soft “mm” and didn’t say anything more. She rested her chin on her hand and looked out the window. The streets, bustling with traffic, gradually lit up. Rush hour made traffic somewhat congested.
By the time they reached Century City, the movie had already started admitting people.
Ming Yan quickly exchanged the tickets and accidentally bumped into someone while looking down and walking.
“Sorry.” “Sorry.”
The two spoke in unison, suddenly looking up when they heard each other’s voices.
“Why is it you?” “Why is it you?”
Gu Weirong gave her a sullen look and started searching for Yun Shu’s figure. Finally, she spotted her and Yang Ou near the snack stand, seemingly exchanging pleasantries.
Ming Yan said with a slight smile, “Hey, I wonder if you’re stalking me?”
“Why would I bother? Even if I were to stalk someone, it wouldn’t be you.”
“So you admit you were deliberately following my Sister Yun?”
“Your Sister Yun? She’s my Mom Yun! I’ve known her since I was a few years old. She lived with me for over ten years, and we still live together now. What about you?” Gu Weirong couldn’t stand Ming Yan constantly showing off her superiority. She didn’t like arguing, but she just didn’t want to back down to her.
“What? You’re living together again?” Ming Yan was exasperated, distorted by jealousy.
“Yan Yan.” Yun Shu gently pressed her shoulder, calming Ming Yan’s agitation, “Be mindful in a public place. Let’s go in; don’t disturb the couple’s time.”
“Alright, alright, we’ll have our couple’s time too, to spite her.” She took the snacks Yun Shu bought and looked at Gu Weirong smugly.
Yun Shu’s eyes landed on Gu Weirong, a faint smile forming: “Enjoy your date.”
Gu Weirong’s mouth twitched a few times, unable to speak.
Why was she so distant today? She didn’t react even to such a low-probability “coincidence.”
Yun Shu and Ming Yan walked ahead, chatting and laughing. Gu Weirong felt a painful lump in her chest, and her steps became heavy.
Yang Ou looked at her lost expression, then took a deep look at Yun Shu, sighed deeply, and smiled at Gu Weirong: “Weirong, I bought the second-to-last row this time. The IMAX screen is big; I’m afraid the last row is too far.”
“Mmm, okay.”
Gu Weirong answered distractedly. Walking into the theater, she found Yun Shu and Ming Yan already in the last row.
“Where did you say our seats were?”
“Second-to-last row, in the middle.” Yang Ou handed over the tickets. Gu Weirong was depressed, “Why didn’t you buy the last row?”
“Look how many people are in this theater. The last row is still a bit far, and the seats are fixed and can’t recline, so it’s uncomfortable.”
“Fine, actually the last row is useless anyway.” Gu Weirong sullenly walked to the second-to-last row. Their seats were directly in front of Yun Shu and Ming Yan.
Now what? She originally wanted to sit behind them to sneak glances at Yun Shu, but now she was giving her back to her rival, unable to see anything.
“It’s you two again.” Ming Yan really didn’t want to see Gu Weirong so frequently.
Gu Weirong played deaf and ignored her directly. Yun Shu’s attitude had dropped her mood to rock bottom, and she didn’t want to say a word.
Yang Ou turned around and greeted Yun Shu proactively, “President Yun, what a coincidence, seeing you again.”
“Mmm, what a coincidence.” Yun Shu replied officially, but her eyes were focused on the silent Gu Weirong.
They were only one row apart, but at this moment, it was like a huge mountain separated them, with another person sitting beside each of them.
The Third Pole was a suspense film triggered by emotional entanglement. The plot was tight and gripping, and the atmosphere in the theater was tense.
Yang Ou was excited because the movie starred his favorite actress and was also his preferred genre. Throughout the whole process, the two barely communicated. Gu Weirong constantly wanted to turn her head to see what they were doing and what Yun Shu looked like watching the movie.
She wanted to know Yun Shu in every moment; she wanted to be involved in her life.
But she couldn’t; she could only endure it.
She sat there bored, staring blankly at the big screen. As she watched, she started to feel sleepy.
It was supposed to be a movie with no dull moments, yet Yang Ou noticed that Gu Weirong seemed to be sleeping?
To see if her eyes were closed, Yang Ou leaned closer. From the back, it looked like a staged kiss.
Yun Shu’s pupils constricted, and she couldn’t help but clench her hands. What were they doing?? This was a movie theater!
Ming Yan also saw Yang Ou’s movement and whispered, “Tsk tsk tsk, look how clingy they are.” She intentionally said it for Yun Shu to hear, also wanting to see her reaction.
But Yun Shu’s expression remained unchanged, not revealing her mood, only replying faintly, “Watch your movie.”
She shifted her gaze, trying to focus on the movie, but she kept getting distracted and couldn’t even hear Ming Yan quietly discussing the plot next to her.
Gu Weirong was in her peripheral vision; the endpoint of her shifting gaze was always her.
The sounds of fighting in the movie were deafening, but Gu Weirong slept soundly amidst the noise. Yang Ou was afraid she would catch a cold, so he took off his jacket and covered her with it.
At this moment, they looked very much like a couple. Yun Shu saw Yang Ou’s every movement. She didn’t absorb anything from the second half of the movie. It was like she was monitoring them, constantly staring at the front row.
Yang Ou was very gentlemanly and thoughtful. He would gently reposition Gu Weirong’s head when it slumped, and he would carefully tuck the jacket in from time to time. He didn’t take advantage by hugging her, nor did he just focus on watching the movie himself.
He was constantly taking care of Gu Weirong.
Perhaps Yang Ou was a very good person to rely on.
In fact, she wasn’t an essential presence for Weirong.
A temporary reliance could only bring fleeting warmth; eventually, they would have to part.
After finishing the remaining matters, she could leave with peace of mind. As for where to go, Yun Shu herself didn’t know.
She would still be like duckweed, drifting wherever the current took her. They say that fallen leaves return to their roots, but she didn’t even know where her own roots were.
If she couldn’t rely on her biological parents, how could she rely on someone with no bl00d relation?
In a person’s life, separation is inevitable. When they meet again, they are no longer the same as they were years ago. It must be the same for her and Weirong.
Thinking of this, Yun Shu felt a dull ache in her heart, a feeling of reluctance was growing.
At the end of the movie, the heroine played by Shangguan Jinghong died. Before her death, how much she longed to see her loved one one last time, but in the end, her wish was not granted, and her body sank into the sea forever.
Yun Shu watched the regretful ending, her nose stinging. She didn’t even know what moved her.
The regret of love lost? The misunderstanding that couldn’t be resolved? Or the deep love that was too late to express?
She didn’t know anymore.
Ming Yan cried her eyes out, “It’s a bad ending! Cheating me out of my tears, wuwuwu, how could it be like this? I’m going to send razor blades to the screenwriter, wuwu.”
Yun Shu steadied her emotions and calmly handed her a tissue. Ming Yan took it, crying even harder as she thought about it, tears flowing uncontrollably.
Gu Weirong woke up amidst the noise, the glare of the lights stinging her eyes, “It’s over?”
“Shangguan Jinghong would be so sad to know that an audience member fell asleep during her movie,” Yang Ou said, smiling.
“Sorry, I didn’t sleep well last night.” Gu Weirong rubbed her eyes and looked up to see Yun Shu and Ming Yan had already left with the crowd.
“Let’s go quickly.” She pulled Yang Ou, rushing into the crowd.
Even in the surging crowd, Gu Weirong could spot Yun Shu at a glance.
She wanted to follow her quietly, but when they reached the mall’s central atrium, the people were gone. Gu Weirong looked left and right, completely forgetting about Yang Ou.
“Weirong, what are you looking for?”
Gu Weirong’s pace was too fast; Yang Ou almost lost her.
“Nothing, I need to go to the restroom.” Gu Weirong looked down sadly and walked toward the public restroom, accidentally bumping into someone’s arms. Looking up, it was Yun Shu.
