Long Time No See (GL) - Chapter 3
Gu Weiran lived in a house in the old city center.
It was rumored that in recent years the area would soon be demolished, and many people, hoping for the huge demolition compensation, refused to sell and just held on.
As soon as this property listing went up, someone came to see the house.
These past few days, Gu Weiran was busy with the second-round bidding proposal during the day, and in the evening she stayed at home waiting for potential buyers.
She was in a hurry to sell, so the price wasn’t high.
For houses in such an area, what was valuable was the land, not the house itself.
As long as she could secure enough funds to keep the company running, she could move on to the next step—public relations with Yun Shu.
Thinking about selling the house she had lived in for more than ten years, Gu Weiran couldn’t help feeling reluctant.
She thought she could sell it now to turn things around, and later buy it back at a higher price.
A house could be traded with money, but some things were priceless.
This place carried all the memories of her growing up—joy, loss, sadness, warmth.
It was also the only inheritance her parents had left her,
and it contained the indelible traces of the past between her and Yun Shu.
Su Qing often stayed out overnight, living in the apartment near the company.
Gu Weiran was already used to it.
Today, she had cleaned the whole house until it was spotless, waiting for the prospective buyer to arrive.
At seven-thirty in the evening, Agent Xiao Wu arrived right on time, bringing along a young woman.
“Good evening, Miss Gu. This is Miss Hai, who has taken quite a liking to your house,” Xiao Wu said warmly, wearing shoe covers and handling every little detail professionally.
Gu Weiran leaned forward to take a look.
The woman behind him smiled and said, “Hello, my name is Hai Yu. Sorry to bother you.”
“It’s fine, you’re welcome. Please, feel free to look around.”
“Hai Yu-jie, why don’t we start with the balcony? The view from here is wonderful—you can see the entire old town,” Xiao Wu said eagerly, singing the house’s praises at every step, describing each detail as if it were the best in the world.
Gu Weiran sat gloomily on the sofa, her mood complicated.
The apartment had three bedrooms and two living rooms—one room for her, one for Su Qing, and the last one had been empty for years.
Other than Su Qing occasionally going in to tidy it up, Gu Weiran almost never stepped inside.
That room had once belonged to Yun Shu.
When she left years ago, she only took some personal belongings with her; the furniture and layout were all left untouched.
The door to that room had always remained closed.
For years, every time she passed by, Gu Weiran would think of Yun Shu.
Perhaps it was because that woman’s presence still lingered too strongly—Yun Shu would always surface in her mind without warning.
Yun Shu had taken care of her until she turned eighteen.
The day she received her university admission letter, Gu Weiran had wanted to cut off all contact, to sever ties completely.
But before she could say it, Yun Shu had already brought it up herself—
she said she wanted to leave, and even transferred the house to Gu Weiran’s name.
She also told her to open a new bank card; she would regularly transfer money into it for living expenses and tuition.
She chose to disappear from Gu Weiran’s sight, without a single complaint or explanation.
Even at the moment she left, she still wore a gentle smile.
The memories suddenly felt vivid again.
Gu Weiran pressed her forehead as Xiao Wu’s enthusiastic chatter filled her ears.
Hai Yu seemed to be listening seriously, yet her gaze kept drifting toward Gu Weiran.
When they returned to the living room, she pointed politely toward that closed door.
“The listing says it’s three bedrooms and two living rooms—
is that last room over there? May I take a look inside?”
“Of course, right? Miss Gu?”
“Of course,” Gu Weiran stood up and walked toward the room.
Her hand rested on the doorknob, and for a moment, she went still.
That single door felt like a mountain and sea between them,
cutting off all the ties she once had with Yun Shu.
Opening it again felt like facing this reunion—something she didn’t want to confront, yet couldn’t escape.
Hai Yu looked at her and smiled meaningfully.
“If it’s inconvenient, it’s fine not to look.”
Before she finished speaking, Gu Weiran pushed the door open.
Inside, there was only a bed, a wardrobe, and a desk.
Other than a few world literature classics that Yun Shu had loved in the early years,
the desk was filled with professional marketing books.
Gu Weiran didn’t even want to lift her eyes.
But whenever she focused carefully, she could recall the days when Yun Shu was still here—
she could almost hear her voice lingering by her ear.
“Indeed, not bad,” Hai Yu said in praise, pulling Gu Weiran back to the present.
“This room used to be a study,” Gu explained softly, “later it was turned into a bedroom.”
“Looks like a marketing prodigy lived here,” Hai Yu teased lightly, then turned to Xiao Wu.
“I’ll take this house. We can handle the paperwork anytime.”
Xiao Wu’s face lit up with joy.
“Great! Miss Gu’s also looking to sell quickly, so the sooner the better. Miss Gu, what do you think?”
Gu Weiran hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly.
Was this buyer really not going to negotiate the price?
“I still have something I’d like to discuss privately with Miss Hai.”
“Why don’t you let me go first,” Hai Yu said, looking at her with a deeper meaning.
Gu Weiran nodded. “Please go ahead.”
“It’s a bit of luck that I can buy this property. I’m mainly drawn by the potential demolition and the value of the location.
But I already have a place to live, so I’ll treat this as an investment.
If you need it, Miss Gu, I can lease it back to you temporarily.
I won’t change anything here—apart from the title transfer, everything stays as it is.
As for rent, we’ll go with the market rate. Xiao Wu can handle that right away.”
“Of course, absolutely,” Xiao Wu said quickly.
Gu Weiran looked at her in surprise.
Was this woman sent by the heavens to save her?
Her biggest worry had been the leaseback arrangement—
the buyers she met earlier had all turned away because of this.
“Actually, I was just about to bring that up. The rent can be deducted from the sale price.
To thank you for your sincerity, I can lower the total price by another twenty thousand.”
“Alright, thank you. Let’s leave it at that for today. Xiao Wu, contact me once the paperwork’s ready.
I won’t trouble Miss Gu any further; I’ll take my leave.”
Hai Yu gave the place one last symbolic look,
didn’t pick any faults, didn’t bargain—she seemed eager to buy, but her demeanor said otherwise.
Gu Weiran thought everything had gone too smoothly.
Was it really just her luck? It must be…
After leaving the compound, Hai Yu made a phone call.
A woman answered.
“Second Miss, everything regarding President Yun has been taken care of.”
“Good. I’ll go inform her. Thank you for your hard work.”
“It’s my duty.”
Inside the now-empty house, only Gu Weiran remained.
Ever since she had opened that door, she hadn’t been able to calm down.
How ridiculous—Yun Shu had left five years ago,
yet reentering that room could still unsettle her heart.
Maybe she hated her too much?
Humans really shouldn’t hold on to obsessions.
When hatred runs too deep, it becomes another kind of attachment.
The house was sold. The funds were secured.
But Gu Weiran couldn’t feel happy at all.
Better not to think about anything.
Focus on work instead.
The later the night grew, the clearer her thoughts became.
Gu Weiran was a night owl.
Over the years, her work had trained her body clock into this reversed rhythm—
the deeper the night, the less sleepy she was.
Now that most of the technical bidding documents were done,
was it time to reach out to Yun Shu?
Surely the other companies were already doing everything they could to win her over.
She wondered how much kickback they were offering—how much should she offer herself?
Maybe she should test the waters first.
Gu Weiran stayed up all night, staring at her phone for a full ten minutes.
She truly hadn’t expected that one day,
she would be the one to actively reach out to that vixen Yun Shu.
She’d thought she would never see her again in this life.
Yun Shu’s phone number—Gu Weiran could dial it with her eyes closed.
She had to get past her own resistance, temporarily let go of her pride.
For the sake of the company, she would pretend not to know Yun Shu,
treat her like any client—strictly business.
With that in mind, she pressed the digits.
But when the call connected, she immediately hung up.
She hadn’t figured out her opening line yet.
What should she say? Ask to meet? Use the company’s name?
She had to carefully plan her wording—
with a fox like Yun Shu, one wrong sentence and you’d fall into her verbal traps.
But before she could think it through, the phone rang.
A return call.
No way… that fast?
Without thinking, she quickly picked up. “Hello~”
“If you had the courage to dial, why didn’t you have the courage to wait for me to answer?”
It was Yun Shu’s voice—soft, smiling, laced with a kind of teasing warmth that was impossible to ignore.
Gu Weiran ignored her flirtation and went straight to the point.
“Do you have time? I’d like to talk to you.”
“There are plenty of people who want to talk to me.
Are you here for business or for personal matters?”
“What personal matters could I possibly have with you?”
A laugh came from the other end.
“This is my private number. I don’t discuss business here.
If it’s business, talk to my assistant.
If it’s personal… I can think about it.”
“You… do you have to be like this?”
Gu Weiran didn’t want to go through all that trouble.
She knew very well that there must be a long line of people trying to get a meeting with Yun Shu.
“That’s a question I could return to you.”
“I…”
Gu Weiran was left speechless, biting her lip in frustration.
Fine—she’d have to coax her out first.
If someone else got to Yun Shu before her, she’d lose her chance.
“Then… let’s call it catching up, alright?”
“I’m not in Xuan’an right now,” Yun Shu said lazily, “let’s meet after a few days.”
“When will you be back?”
“The day after tomorrow.
Why don’t you…” she paused deliberately, “come pick me up at the airport?”
“Me? Pick you up?”
“Don’t want to? Then I’ll have someone else do it.”
Even though she knew Yun Shu was leading her by the nose,
Gu Weiran had no choice.
Even if she had to borrow a car, she’d pick up this living Buddha herself.
“I’ll go. What time?”
“Ten at night.”
“Alright. I’ll contact you then.”
“That’s better.
If you want to get what you want, you have to give something in return.”
Hearing the smile in Yun Shu’s voice,
Gu Weiran angrily hung up.
“Same as before—always teasing me!”
She muttered at the phone, annoyed,
then tossed it aside and curled up on the sofa to rest.
Maybe because she’d stayed up all night, she quickly fell asleep.
The living room window was open,
and the early autumn wind was cool.
She shivered several times.
“Just like you—never uses a blanket when sleeping.”
A familiar voice drifted by her ear.
She felt warmth spreading over her body,
and as she turned in her sleep, she sensed someone nearby.
Half-asleep, she opened her eyes—
Yun Shu was smiling down at her.
Gu Weiran stared, dazed.
Yun Shu’s eyes always seemed to speak—
every time she looked into them, she could see the stars.
Yun Shu—just like her name—gentle, soothing,
like floating on clouds, hazy and soft.
But wait—why would Yun Shu be here?
Gu Weiran rubbed her eyes, confused, struggling to stay awake.
“Weiran, long time no see~”
Yun Shu’s voice came again.
Gu Weiran jolted awake, sitting up suddenly on the sofa.
The house was silent, empty.
So it was a dream.
She had dreamed of Yun Shu again.
She really shouldn’t have made that call.
She shouldn’t have stepped into that room.
Like Pandora’s box—once opened,
Yun Shu’s shadow became impossible to shake off.
Annoyed, Gu Weiran slammed the door shut.
“Haunting me like a ghost!”
Does everyone still remember Hai Yu-jie among the “Three Golden Flowers”?
Haha, suddenly I miss the women from Red Rose—I really do.
New readers can check out the previous book Red Rose.
Sister Hai Yu has a full name there,
and you’ll understand the complex relationships among them.
———
And as for our proud Miss Gu—
is she remembering Mother Yun because she longs for the tenderness of the past,
or because her resentment runs too deep?
Have you figured it out, sweetheart?
Do you even know how much money was in that card?
Don’t give it to me—give it to me!
I dream every night of having a rich woman to keep me.
