Lord of Mysteries: The Cultivator - Chapter 5
Snow woke up in his room as usual. However, the sky was still deep in the night, and the ear-of-wheat-shaped minute hand on the wall clock pointed to three o’clock in the morning.
But, right now, he was often more energetic in the dark night than in the daytime.
And today, he saw that the door to Quinn’s room, directly opposite his own, was wide open. Quinn was sitting in the center of his room, surrounded by boxes and bags, looking as if he was about to start a long journey.
Snow was stunned for a moment, and then the corner of his mouth curved into an arc that looked particularly eerie and strange in the crimson moonlight shining through the window.
He instantly seemed to turn into a shadow, moving rapidly along the track of the darkness to get behind Quinn.
Perhaps because Snow had absolutely no killing intent, Quinn, whose spirituality was not high, was still focused on tidying his things and did not notice.
“Good morning!!”
“Whoa, what the f—! M-m-m-morning!”
Quinn, who was wholeheartedly packing something, was so startled by the sudden appearance of Snow that he nearly jumped up. He quickly covered the pocket below his waist and subconsciously answered with his eyes closed.
He slowly reacted, turned around, saw Snow behind him, and then looked around at the very conspicuous luggage surrounding him, a look of despair surfacing in his eyes.
It’s over, I can’t hide it anymore! No, I have to stay calm… Snow’s intelligence is about the same as mine; maybe I can fool him!
Quinn worried that the secret of him being observed by an enigmatic existence would be discovered, and his current actions were extremely abnormal.
“What are you doing?” Snow’s pale red eyes stared at Quinn in confusion.
“That… that…” Move, my brain! I got it!
He let out a nervous chuckle, sweat beading on his face, and stammered: “It’s, it’s just that a new family moved into town. As the bishop of the only official church at Bikini Beach, of course, I have to visit and say hello!”
“Bullshit…” Snow replied expressionlessly, “I’ve been preaching here for five years, and I can count the number of times you’ve left this church on one hand. Now you suddenly decide you want to visit new residents? You might as well say you’ve been targeted by an Evil God or a Demon and are planning to run away!”
“Spill it!”
This isn’t right. Why is Snow so smart today?
Quinn’s heart grew more panicked: Should I just tell him everything? But he quickly negated the idea in his mind.
That’s right, Quinn had gotten up in the middle of the night to pack because he was planning to run away. He wanted to go to the headquarters of the Mother Goddess of Earth Church in Feysac and ask the angels there to cleanse the mark of “The Fool” on him.
This hope was very slim, especially after he had already reached an agreement with “The Fool” and been branded with the mark.
Just yesterday, after he finished communicating with that “Fool,” his spirit returned to the material world.
However, he found that an ancient, mysterious, crown-shaped pattern had returned with him on the back of his right hand.
Under the sunlight, it quickly melted into the skin of his hand.
Before confirming whether that “Fool” was some kind of evil, enigmatic existence, rashly publicizing Their information could very likely attract more of Their attention!
At that time, not only he and Snow, but everyone in the entire town might be targeted and corrupted… They have too many unknowns.
“Fine, I’ll tell you!”
Quinn hardened his heart.
“It’s, it’s just that new household. I accidentally saw their young daughter. Uh… I think she is very, very… well… so I plan to bring ‘some’ gifts to meet her!”
“!” Just as Quinn blurted out the reason he had concocted in a flash of inspiration, he seemed to see Snow’s pale red eyes erupt into a terrifying, bl00d-red glow in the deep night.
The implication of this glow was crystal clear—even to the befuddled Quinn’s eyes—“Gossip!” This was the most intense thought in Snow’s mind.
Mother Goddess above! Quinn, a man who acts like a vampire,缩(shrinks/hides) at home all day to retire, is actually planning to make a move!
This is simply unbelievable!
Yay! I think I managed to fool him! Quinn cheered softly in his heart.
Wait… something seems wrong. Snow suddenly asked in confusion: “But…”
“Oh, no buts, I’m leaving!”
Quinn didn’t give Snow a chance to question him again. He waved his hand, and red soil continuously surged out from the wall cracks, outside the window, and under the chimney, wrapping him and the packages around him, sinking down, and quickly disappearing from the room without damaging anything.
But that new family only has a son… The words Snow was about to say were choked in his throat. But after all, Quinn’s Sequence 6 is the Biologist.
He must be more professional about the differences between men and women than himself, a Sequence 7 vampire.
Then he carefully recalled the image of the new family’s child, and the expression on his face immediately became distorted, confused, and perplexed.
“What a peculiar taste. As expected of a favored one of the Mother Goddess…”
“Lord Mother Goddess… please save your poor favored one. He might be targeted by a bad guy!”
Quinn was sprinting with his luggage in the mud, moving much faster than a steam train at its highest power. He couldn’t stop sighing in his heart.
The mark of an enigmatic existence didn’t even attract the Mother Goddess’s attention!
Did the Mother Goddess abandon me… No, I can’t think that way, Quinn! Maybe the Mother Goddess’s instructions were interfered with by the angels of the Rose School again? Perseverance is victory…
Hmm… That “Fool” said the gathering would be held at three o’clock this afternoon, which is today!
Right, today is Sunday… Quinn thought of Snow, Old Bob, and more people at Bikini Beach, quietly observing the Sabbath in the church. A feeling of loss washed over him when he realized the bishop, himself, was missing from the pulpit.
He changed direction, turning from heading towards the port to heading into the vast wilderness away from the coast. He randomly found an empty spot, used his Planter’s ability to dig an underground chamber the size of a washroom, and then crawled into it.
I’ll just stay here until three o’clock, attend that gathering, and then make my next plan.
Quinn unconsciously tidied the bishop’s robe he was still wearing.
His gaze fell upon the large boxes beside him, and he thought with some trepidation: “Will They like these ‘local specialties’ of mine…”
When the high-hanging sun dropped a little in the sky, Quinn, who had been bored and teasing the Mimosa he had accelerated the growth of, suddenly jolted.
The time is almost right. He sat up straight. Then, he saw layers of gray fog emerge from the boundless void, swallowing him whole.
