Lord of Mysteries: The Cultivator - Chapter 9
Southern Continent, Atiya Dudley Port, “Riverwood Rooster” Inn
“So, let’s do a final review of the intelligence for this mission.”
Quinn Flitt, dressed in a black, long-skirted trench coat, covered in a black hooded robe, and carrying a man-length white-cloth-wrapped pole on his back, spoke seriously to Father Utravsky, which was rare for him.
“Jun Lanlakitsde, Sequence 5 ‘Revenant,’ can transform his state into a true Specter. His physical qualities are extremely strong, and his recovery ability is very high. He possesses abilities such as ‘Specter Possession,’ ‘Specter Howl,’ ‘Mirror Flash,’ and ‘Ice Manipulation,’ and he controls an unknown, non-offensive Sealed Artifact. He is the biggest threat to our operation and will require the two of us to cooperate to deal with him at the very beginning or the very end of the action.”
“Fran Ruvio, Sequence 7 ‘Werewolf,’ possesses super self-healing ability, terrifying strength, agility, and speed. Her claws and teeth are poisonous, and she has mastered Dark element spells. Ah… this one is simple, Father Utravsky, you handle her alone.”
“The remaining ordinary people and low-Sequence Beyonders in the Rose School stronghold will all be handled by me. Father, you conserve your strength to deal with Jun Lanlakitsde.”
“If this operation is successful, Father, you will receive all Beyonder items, including gold Pounds, except for the Beyonder Characteristic and Sealed Artifact of Jun Lanlakitsde. Any items or materials at Sequence 5 or above will belong to me.”
“Understood?”
“I understand.”
Bishop Utravsky nodded solemnly. Quinn, as the main force of this extermination, was undertaking multiple duties such as infiltration, information gathering, assassination, ambush, and assault, while the Father only played a role in two battles. This method of distribution seemed very fair to him.
He had also changed out of the white bishop’s robe that was always pulled tight; now he was wearing a full set of austere, cold plate armor. On his back was a colossal, door-board-thick greatsword taller than Quinn. Coupled with his height of over two meters, he looked like a mythical giant had arrived.
“Heh heh, then, the operation begins.”
The Rose School’s stronghold was not too far from the town, which made it easier for the members to capture humans and use them as sacrifices for their ancient and bloody primitive sacrificial traditions.
Quinn and Father Utravsky followed the main road, walking for several hours from the town until they reached the foot of the Coldfall Peak.
Because of its high altitude, this area was covered in perpetual snow even though it was in the Southern Continent. Looking up from the foot of the mountain, the snowy white peaks pierced straight into the clouds. Among the layered mountains, there were only scattered boulders and sharp rock spikes. It was hard to imagine any human activity here, unless they were no longer human…
“This is it, Father. I’ll take you up.”
Quinn stomped his foot, and the ground, like a surging sea, swallowed the two of them and rushed toward the mountaintop.
Bishop Utravsky’s feeling at this moment was very peculiar. The infinitely thick and heavy earth around him felt like it could crush him into a meat patty in an instant, yet he was able to quickly travel through it. The soil that had existed for hundreds of millions of years only brought a warm, moist, and reassuring sensation, as if he were resting in his mother’s cradle.
He was very certain that an ordinary ‘Druid’ would absolutely not possess this power to make the land submit to him.
“Is this what a Divine Favored one is like…” The Father suddenly felt that the person beside him at this moment possessed a mother-like, reassuring strength.
They stopped halfway up the mountain, and Quinn poked half of his head out of the ground, secretly observing:
In addition to the scattered rubble, a pale brick-and-stone bunker appeared before them. Hanging from the wall of the bunker with hemp ropes were various unidentified objects. Looking closely, they were human corpses without facial features or limbs, leaving only dark red, empty cavities!
“My goodness, that’s really fucking scary.” Quinn, who had dissected hundreds of human corpses with various causes of death in order to roleplay as a ‘Biologist,’ felt a chill at this moment.
He continued to carefully wriggle forward with the Father, without being discovered by the patrolling guards. Only ordinary people were patrolling the bunker walls, and they didn’t discover the two’s tracks at all.
Inside the wall, a bloody and horrifying scene came into Quinn’s view: In a square arena surrounded by iron chains, a large group of figures were wildly dancing. There were humans, non-humans, corpses, living people, and the undead, frantically tearing at each other.
It was as if they could gain supreme joy from this primal slaughter.
Outside the arena, the “Werewolf,” Fran Ruvio, wearing light leather full armor, sat in the best viewing spot for the whole scene, watching the frantic and indulgent slaughter inside as if it were a play.
Suddenly, her gaze turned in Quinn Flitt’s direction, casting a playful look at a piece of empty land, directly at Quinn!
“Tear you to shreds,” she suddenly smiled and said.
Oh no, I’ve been discovered! The thought flashed through Quinn’s mind!
Boom! A ground-shaking tremor occurred. The piece of land where Quinn was located disappeared as if it had been gnawed by a wild beast. An illusory figure appeared above Quinn’s head, raising his left hand, ready to launch another strike.
“Revenant” Jun Lanlakitsde!
The Royal Flush is out… Quinn admitted that the plan couldn’t keep up with the changes, but he felt that the timing was better now!
“Father, let’s go!”
The two figures, one large and one small, burst out of the ground. Jun Lanlakitsde’s eyes indifferently observed them, as if watching two lifeless objects. Without a word, his left hand quickly made an attack!
Clang!! Sharp claws collided with the massive, sharp greatsword, raising a distant echo. “Dawn!” Utravsky caught the “Revenant’s” claw strike in mid-air, then roared softly, and the surrounding fifty-meter space was immediately filled with dawn light! Here, illusions, revenants, and the like would be weakened.
“Hold him, Father!” Quinn said quickly. The front-line combat capability of a Sequence 6 “Dawn Knight” was extremely terrifying and could temporarily contend with the “Revenant.” He prepared to take care of the “Werewolf,” her undead, and her crazy believers!
However, the “Revenant” Jun Lanlakitsde had no intention of entanglement with Father Utravsky. In a flash, he turned into an elusive specter and disappeared from the spot. Quinn knew his target was himself! However, he was not panicked at this moment.
“Hah!” At this moment, the Father did not search for the “Revenant’s” trace, but instead plunged his two-handed greatsword into the earth!
A pure light-induced storm rose up from the ground! This storm continuously tore at the invisible “Revenant,” forcing him to let out a scream, and compelling him to stop his attack on Quinn.
Quinn, who had already anticipated this, leaped backward and, in a flash, sank back into the ground.
The “Werewolf” Fran Ruvio arrived like a hurricane, along with the undead in the arena, who were driven by the “Revenant” Jun Lanlakitsde and charged over.
“Jun! That mud man is gone!” she howled.
And the next moment, in the mixed-up area of the “Werewolf” and the undead, the earth began to tremble!
