Love in the Depths of Time (GL) - Chapter 26
Lin Xi stood in the rain outside Jia Le’s apartment, watching the door gently close. Something soft seemed to touch her heart. She knew that Jia Le lived here alone, and because of Jia Le, this city had become especially important to her.
Back at her hotel, Lin Xi sat at her desk, gently stroking the sapphire ring on her finger. Jia Le’s words echoed in her mind, those gentle yet firm sentences like a warm spring breeze brushing against her heart. She knew her feelings for Jia Le had never changed, and Jia Le had always held an irreplaceable place in her heart.
The next morning, Lin Xi arrived at the company early. Through the large floor-to-ceiling windows in her office, she could see the bustling skyline of City A. But at that moment, her gaze pierced through the city’s noise and landed on the distant City B. She picked up the documents on her desk and began carefully studying them.
“President Lin, are you sure you want to shift the business focus to City B?” Her assistant, Xiao Li, asked hesitantly.
Lin Xi looked up, her eyes firm and calm. “Yes, Xiao Li. The market potential in City B is huge, and…” She paused, a faint smile appearing on her lips. “And we have an important partner there.”
Although Xiao Li was a bit confused, he nodded. “Understood, President Lin. I will make the necessary arrangements.”
In the following weeks, Lin Xi frequently traveled between City A and City B. She personally participated in every project, using all her financial expertise to develop the new market. She knew it was a challenge, but also an opportunity—an opportunity to get closer to Jia Le.
During her days in City B, Lin Xi often walked the streets alone after work. The city lights were dazzling at night, yet there was a sense of tranquility. She thought of Jia Le—the gentle yet determined woman—and the beautiful times they had shared.
One day, while sitting in a café, Lin Xi happened to see a medical magazine featuring a doctor focused on surgery on the cover. Her heart trembled slightly, as if she saw Jia Le’s figure. She bought the magazine and sat in a corner, slowly flipping through the pages, as if she could feel Jia Le’s presence within them.
As time passed, Lin Xi’s company gradually gained a foothold in City B. She finally had more time to focus on Jia Le. She began participating in medical charity events, not just to support Jia Le’s work but also to have more opportunities to see her.
Finally, one evening at a charity banquet, Lin Xi saw Jia Le again. Jia Le still wore her elegant pearl-gray gown, still the gentle yet determined doctor. Their eyes met across the crowd, and at that moment, time seemed to stand still.
“Lin Xi? Why are you here?” Jia Le asked in surprise.
Lin Xi smiled softly; her eyes full of warmth. “I moved to City B for work. There are many opportunities here, and…” She hesitated for a moment, a subtle hint of emotion flashing in her eyes. “And I wanted to be closer to you.”
Jia Le’s gaze wavered slightly. She looked at Lin Xi, her heart filled with complex emotions. She knew Lin Xi had done so much for her, and she herself had never forgotten Lin Xi.
“Lin Xi, thank you,” Jia Le said softly, her eyes filled with gratitude.
Lin Xi shook her head, her gaze firm. “Jia Le, I’m willing to do anything for you. As long as you’re happy, that’s enough for me.”
At that moment, they seemed to draw a little closer. Lin Xi knew that their relationship might never return to the past, but she believed their friendship would continue. And she would always protect Jia Le, even if her love had to remain hidden in her heart, even if it became just a beautiful memory in her life.
Lin Xi stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of her office in City B, gazing at the shimmering city lights. A wave of emotions surged within her. She knew she had already rooted herself in this city, all because of one person she cared for deeply.
Lin Xi’s life became busy and fulfilling. During the day, she moved between skyscrapers, handling complex financial affairs. Her decisions influenced the flow of massive amounts of capital, and each project carried her wisdom and effort. She always managed to find opportunities amid market fluctuations, and her name grew more prominent in the financial world.
However, when night fell, a wave of warmth would always rise in her heart. She would think of Jia Le, the gentle yet determined woman. She knew that at this moment, Jia Le might be in the operating room saving lives or in her office planning treatments for patients. Lin Xi felt both admiration and deep concern for her.
One evening, after finishing work, Lin Xi walked aimlessly through the streets of City B, her mind filled with thoughts of Jia Le. Before she realized it, she found herself standing in front of a familiar café. This was a place she and Jia Le had visited together before. Every memory warmed her heart.
Lin Xi stepped inside and chose a seat by the window. She ordered a latte and quietly watched the street outside. Just then, she spotted a familiar figure—Jia Le, walking past the café, holding some documents and looking slightly hurried.
Lin Xi’s heart skipped a beat. She hesitated for a moment before standing up and softly calling out, “Jia Le!”
Hearing the voice, Jia Le turned around. When she saw Lin Xi, a look of surprise appeared on her face. “Lin Xi? What are you doing here?”
Lin Xi smiled slightly and walked toward her. “I just finished work and stopped by for coffee. Where are you headed?”
Jia Le glanced at the documents in her hands and smiled helplessly. “I have an urgent meeting to attend.”
Lin Xi nodded, her eyes full of concern. “Then go ahead, be careful on your way.”
Jia Le nodded and turned to leave but then paused and looked back at Lin Xi. “Lin Xi, thank you. Having you in City B makes me feel at ease.”
Lin Xi’s heart trembled slightly. She whispered, “Jia Le, whenever you need me, I’ll always be here.”
Jia Le smiled softly and walked away. Lin Xi watched her leave, a mix of emotions filling her heart. She knew how much those words meant to her.
From that day on, Lin Xi became even more determined. She dedicated more energy to medical-related projects, not just for career success but also to support Jia Le’s work. She formed a stronger partnership with Renhe Hospital, funding essential medical equipment and research projects.
Lin Xi knew their love might never return to the past, but she could protect Jia Le in her own way. She believed that as long as their hearts were connected, no distance could truly separate them.
Late one night, as Lin Xi was working overtime, her phone suddenly rang. Seeing Jia Le’s name on the screen, her heart tightened. She answered softly, “Jia Le, what’s wrong?”
Jia Le’s voice sounded tired. “Lin Xi, I just finished a difficult surgery. The patient’s condition was complicated. I need to rest.”
Lin Xi’s heart ached. “Jia Le, you’re exhausted. Do you want me to come over and keep you company?”
Jia Le hesitated for a moment before speaking gently. “No, I just want to rest at home. You should get some rest too, don’t overwork yourself.”
Lin Xi nodded. “Alright, rest well. I’ll always be here.”
After hanging up, Lin Xi gazed at the night outside, feeling a slight sadness. She knew Jia Le didn’t just need company—she needed understanding and support. Lin Xi resolved to work even harder, using her achievements to protect Jia Le.
