Love in the Depths of Time (GL) - Chapter 4
Lin Xi’s life was not easy. She had no family and could only rely on herself. She was used to being alone. But she never complained and always worked hard to live her life. Jia Le knew how difficult things were for Lin Xi, so she always tried to help her.
On Tuesday, when the school bell rang, Jia Le walked over to Lin Xi’s desk and invited her. “Lin Xi, my mom made delicious food for you. Come to my house for dinner!”
Lin Xi felt a little shy, but she still went to Jia Le’s house. Jia Le’s mother was a kind and gentle person. Every time she saw Lin Xi, she welcomed her warmly.
Every visit made Lin Xi feel the warmth of a real home. She often ate at Jia Le’s house, and Jia Le’s mother always prepared tasty meals for her. Lin Xi felt deeply grateful.
Jia Le always stayed by Lin Xi’s side. She knew Lin Xi had no family, so she accompanied her to the orphanage to visit the children, went to the library with her to study, and took walks with her in the park. She wanted Lin Xi to know that she was not alone—someone was always with her.
“Lin Xi, you are my best friend. I will always be with you,” Jia Le said seriously.
Lin Xi looked at Jia Le, her heart filled with warmth. She knew that Jia Le was the most important person in her life.
Lin Xi sat in the last row of the classroom, her head down, writing and drawing in her notebook. The sunlight from the window shone on her desk, stretching her shadow long.
Lin Xi always had top grades. The orphanage’s caretaker once told her that if she wanted to change her fate, she had to work harder than everyone else. So she was always the first to arrive in class and the last to leave. Her textbooks were filled with dense notes, with every page covered in annotations.
“Lin Xi!” A cheerful voice called from the classroom door.
She looked up and saw Jia Le waving at her. The girl had her long ponytail tied high, her school uniform collar slightly crooked, and a bright smile on her face.
“I don’t understand this math problem. Can you teach me?” Jia Le hopped over and placed her workbook on Lin Xi’s desk.
Lin Xi was a little surprised. This was the first time someone had come to her for help with schoolwork. She pressed her lips together, then took the workbook and looked at the problem carefully. “For this one, you need to use the triangle area formula…”
She explained patiently, occasionally glancing at Jia Le’s expression. Jia Le tilted her head and let out small “Oh!” sounds of realization from time to time, her long eyelashes fluttering under the sunlight.
“You’re amazing!” Jia Le said sincerely after listening. “Every time I see these formulas, my head hurts.” She reached into her bag and took out a pack of bear-shaped cookies. “Here, this is a thank-you gift!”
Lin Xi looked at the cookies, hesitated for a moment, then accepted them. The packaging still carried the warmth of Jia Le’s hand.
From that day on, Jia Le often came to Lin Xi for help with schoolwork. With Lin Xi’s guidance, Jia Le’s grades improved a lot. She became more confident and more hardworking.
“Lin Xi, thank you,” Jia Le said seriously.
“You don’t need to thank me. Let’s work hard together,” Lin Xi replied with a smile.
