[Lucky Overpowered] — I Became a Background Character Meant to Die in the Game’s Opening, But Now I’m Overpowered and Fighting to Save My All-Time Favorite Alchemist Heroine - Episode 12
“Huh? You’re looking for gear? Let me think…”
The mohawked adventurer in shoulder pads rubbed his chin, glancing between me and Lise.
“Judging by the looks of you two, I’d say you’re newbies, right? Then you’ll want to check that place over there. It’s cheap, but they do good work.”
Surprisingly, the mohawked adventurer gave us clear, polite directions to the shop.
“Thanks, that really helps.”
“Thank you very much.”
“No problem. Let’s both try not to die out there.”
With that, the mohawked adventurer disappeared into the crowd on the main street.
“He was… unexpectedly nice.”
“Yeah, he really was.”
I nodded in response to Lise’s quiet comment.
He looked pretty wild, but he was a refreshingly decent guy. Goes to show, you really can’t judge people by appearances.
Afterward, we followed his directions to the shop—and that’s when I saw something I couldn’t believe.
“Relics!? Why are they selling relics in a regular store!?”
Laid out in front of me were various bracelets and rings, all of which were powerful magical items that could only be found in dungeons—relics.
“Gee? What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong!? This is crazy!”
I rushed over to one of the shop clerks to get to the bottom of it.
“Excuse me, can I ask something? Are you really selling relics here? Where did you get them?”
“Yes, we carry a limited number of relics. All of them are authentic, brought back from the dungeon by adventurers.”
“Adventurers brought them back…”
“That’s right.”
“I see…”
Of course. This world isn’t a game. There are plenty of other adventurers besides me. Some of them are bound to find relics in the dungeon and sell them off.
Why hadn’t I thought of that before? What a dumb oversight.
“Thanks. That really helped.”
I hurried back to the relics section and began carefully examining each item.
“Hmm… mostly low-tier stuff, huh…”
Looks like they only have relics from the lower floors of the dungeon. Even so, they’re pretty pricey—proving that relics are valuable, even in a dungeon city like this.
A lot of these relics don’t even have their effects listed. How are they supposed to sell them like this?
I called over a clerk to ask.
“Why don’t these relics have any descriptions of their effects?”
“Those are unappraised items. Until they’re properly appraised, their effects remain unknown. That’s why they’re priced more affordably. If you’re curious, you can get them appraised at the Adventurers’ Guild.”
“Whoa, I see…”
So that’s how it works. In the game, you’d automatically see the name and flavor text of any item you picked up. But this is reality. No such convenience here. Even if you find a relic, you won’t know what it does until it’s appraised.
Still, apparently there are professional appraisers at the guild. You can pay them to identify items. Seems like standard procedure.
“…This might be a golden opportunity.”
You see, I remember every item that appeared in Lise’s Atelier: The Fallen Alchemist and the Soul-Eating Demon King. That includes relics. I can tell what a relic does just by looking at it—no appraisal needed.
Not that I’m planning to impersonate an appraiser or anything. I just want to save on appraisal fees and identify useful relics among the unappraised ones.
Just because a relic came from a low dungeon floor doesn’t mean it’s weak. Some of them are strong enough to serve as final equipment later on.
“Gee, do you want a relic?”
“Sort of. I’m not sure if they’ll have what I’m looking for, though.”
“But… we came here to buy armor today.”
“Oh, right… sigh.”
I went through the relics one by one, but nothing stood out. Dang.
“Can we move on now?”
“Yeah, nothing caught my eye. Let’s check out the armor instead.”
“Alright.”
We moved on and started browsing the armor section like we originally planned.
“Gee, which one do you think is better, this or this?”
“Hm?”
I turned to look and saw Lise holding up two outfits.
One was a plain black robe. The other, a similarly plain brown one.
“Ugh…”
Ah yes, the classic trial for any man—being asked which outfit a girl should wear…
But what do you say when both options are kind of… meh?
Neither looked great visually, and their stats were mediocre too.
“What about this one? Stat-wise, it looks promising.”
I pointed to a piece that, at first glance, resembled a monochrome miniskirt maid outfit. Despite the looks, it was one of the better early-game store-bought items—pretty much the best pick at this stage.
“So, this is your taste, huh, Gee…”
“Wait, what?”
For some reason, Lise gave me a side-eye filled with quiet judgment. Why!?
“Look, it comes with a coat, so the miniskirt part isn’t a big deal! Plus, the stats are good, and it’s cute!”
“…Fine. If you’re going to push it that hard…”
Blushing just a bit, Lise took the outfit I had recommended into her hands.
