[Lucky Overpowered] — I Became a Background Character Meant to Die in the Game’s Opening, But Now I’m Overpowered and Fighting to Save My All-Time Favorite Alchemist Heroine - Episode 17
“This one… Is it okay if I open it?”
“Go ahead.”
When Lise opened the small wooden treasure chest, she pulled something out from inside. It looked like a ring.
“Ah!”
As soon as Lise took the ring out, the treasure chest vanished into thin air, as if it had melted into the air.
“Gee, it’s a ring.”
“I see.”
The boss drop from the fifth dungeon floor is a ring that increases agility by just one point. The rare drop should’ve been a horn, but it looks like we didn’t get one this time. That’s a shame.
“Lise, about that ring—mind if I take it?”
“Go ahead.”
Agility affects evasion and attack speed. It makes more sense for me to have it, since I’m the one engaging in close combat with monsters.
Well, it’s only a +1 bonus, so it’s barely noticeable.
“Alright, let’s head back to town for now.”
“It’s not even noon yet—are we really heading back already?”
“Yeah. I want to stop by the Adventurers’ Guild.”
Clearing the fifth floor of the dungeon should mean we’re now allowed to recruit party members at the guild.
Technically, that restriction only existed in the game. Even if you hadn’t cleared the fifth floor, you could still recruit allies—but I guess I’ve just been subconsciously following the game’s mechanics.
I’ve been trying to go through events the same way they played out in the game. It’s kind of like my own way of making a wish—to be able to defeat the Soul Eater just like in the game.
With that in mind, we used the mysterious monument to warp from the fifth floor back to the dungeon entrance and returned to the town of Barro.
“Care for one of Barro’s famous hot dogs?”
“Hey there, you two! Had lunch yet? If not, come try our place!”
“Today’s pot-au-feu has been slow-cooked to perfection—don’t miss it!”
It was around lunchtime, so the town of Barro was even more lively than usual. Vendors and restaurants called out from every corner, trying to draw in customers.
“Are we eating out today?”
“Yeah. I thought we could eat at the Adventurers’ Guild for a change.”
We made our way down Barro’s main street until we reached a large, rugged stone building. Above its grand swinging doors was the sign of the Adventurers’ Guild—depicting a crossed sword and staff over a shield.
Barro is known as a holy ground for adventurers because it houses a dungeon. Naturally, the Adventurers’ Guild here is huge.
Even now, loud laughter and shouting could be heard from inside. No matter how many times I come, the energy of the place is overwhelming.
“Shall we go in?”
“Yes…!”
As Lise and I entered the guild, the noise inside immediately grew louder.
“Hey, where’ve you been? Haven’t seen you around in ages.”
“Huh? Just dealing with some goblins that came out near the village.”
“A toast to conquering the twentieth floor!”
“I heard strange monsters have been appearing near the town lately. They say if you get attacked, you never wake up again.”
“Potions and holy magic don’t work, and even the church is at a loss. Creepy stuff.”
“I’m kicking you out of the party!”
“““No, you’re the one who should be kicked out!”””
The Adventurers’ Guild was as lively as ever.
To the left of the entrance was a noisy dining area, while the right side featured shops selling consumables like potions. Deeper inside were rows of wooden counters, where receptionists assisted the adventurers.
“Gee, what should we do? Want to grab lunch first?”
The noise must have made it hard to hear, because Lise raised her voice more than usual.
“Let’s check in at the reception first. We should sell the items we picked up, and we need to post our party recruitment too.”
“Party recruitment?”
“Yeah. It’s going to be tough to keep going with just the two of us.”
Hopefully we can recruit someone strong.
In the game, party recruitment was completely random. It was like a gacha—you’d reload your save file over and over until a strong character showed up.
But this isn’t a game. There’s no save or reload. It’s a one-shot deal. Now’s the time for my Gift of [Luck] to prove itself. Come on, [Luck]—don’t let me down!
“Hello! How can I help you today?”
It was finally our turn. A smiling receptionist greeted us.
“I’d like to recruit adventurers for a party. I want to register with Lise here—as a pair.”
“In that case, please fill out this form.”
“Alright.”
The form asked for more than just names. It included weapon preferences, skills, Gifts, and how many dungeon floors we’d cleared.
We quickly filled it out and handed it back. Neither Lise nor I had anything to hide.
“Thank you. It will take a little time to match you with potential party members. Once we find a good match, one of our staff will contact you.”
“Got it.”
“Thanks so much!”
After that, it was up to the guild to find us suitable party members.
“Shall we eat while we wait?”
“Sure.”
Lise and I made our way to the attached dining hall and started our meal.
