[Lucky Overpowered] — I Became a Background Character Meant to Die in the Game’s Opening, But Now I’m Overpowered and Fighting to Save My All-Time Favorite Alchemist Heroine - Episode 19
“What do you think, Gustave, Isabelle?”
“I think it sounds fine,” Gustave replied.
“The problem is that we don’t know much about alchemists,” Isabelle said. “We don’t have enough information to make a proper judgment. But I think it’s reasonable to try going into a dungeon together a few times. Then we can make a decision based on that.”
Gilles nodded deeply at their responses.
“That makes sense. Let’s do that, then. Looking forward to working with you.”
“Yeah.”
“Likewise.”
It kind of feels like a trial hire.
Well, we’re a party of two, and they’re a group of three. They’ve already formed a team and have a leader. Naturally, they’re going to take the lead. This didn’t happen in the game.
Come to think of it, it’s pretty unusual to put someone like Lise—who just came of age and is new to adventuring—in charge of a party.
“Alright, let’s dive into a dungeon tomorrow! Guy, Lise—are you good to go?”
“Yeah.”
“Yes.”
“Settled, then. Alright, let’s wrap this up—”
“Hold it, Gilles. You think we’re just going to call it a day now? Not a chance. Today, we’re going to start thinking about coordination and what each of us can do.”
“Seriously, Isabelle? Coordination is all about going with the flow, isn’t it? It’s not something you plan out ahead of time.”
“Only a few people can get away with that. Besides, we haven’t even done proper introductions yet. This is final.”
“I am the party leader, right…?”
“Good luck, Gilles…”
You can clearly see the power dynamics here. Gilles may be the official leader, but Isabelle is clearly the one in charge.
“Are you two okay with that?” she asked us.
“Yeah.”
“Yes.”
“Thanks. Gilles, go book a room at the guild for us.”
“Huh? Why me…?”
“Because you’re the party leader, aren’t you?”
“…Fine.”
Reluctantly, Gilles gave in after being called “leader” by Isabelle. He’s being treated more like the party’s errand boy than the leader.
“She’s incredible…”
“Yeah…”
Lise whispered to me, and I gave her a small nod. Isabelle really is something—”formidable” is the word that comes to mind.

The meeting room was fairly spacious, with a large round table in the center. Gilles had rented it from the guild. After we all took our seats, Isabelle stood up.
“Let’s start with quick introductions. I’ll go first, since this was my idea. I’m Isabelle. You can probably tell from how I look, but I’m a mage. I like smart people and can’t stand those who don’t listen to reason. That should do. Gilles, you’re next.”
“Alright!”
Gilles stood up energetically, folded his arms, and spoke.
“I’m Gilles!”
Wait—that’s it?
“Gilles, that doesn’t tell us anything. Say something you like.”
“Really? Well, I like meat and cheese-loaded omelets! And just so you know, I hate vegetables!”
“Utterly irrelevant. Next, Gustave.”
“Okay.”
“Why is Isabelle running the show…?”
“Um, I’m Gustave. I’m the party’s tank. I like…”
At that moment, Gustave’s eyes flicked briefly toward Isabelle.
“I guess I like omelets too. Actually, I really like eggs. Boiled eggs, poached eggs—I love them all. But if I had to pick a favorite, I’d say quiche.”
I already knew from the game that Gustave loved food, but seeing it firsthand really brings out his charm. His friendly face makes him seem almost adorable.
What a unique bunch. It’s fun seeing new sides to characters I already knew from the game.
“Next, Gee—if you would.”
“Sure.”
Prompted by Isabelle, I stood up.
“I’m Gee. I mainly use a bow and daggers. My favorite thing is… Lise. That’s all.”
“So, you two are… like that?”
“N-no we’re not! Geez! Gee, don’t mess around like that! People will take it seriously!”
“But I am serious.”
“Ugh, seriously!”
Lise turned red and flailed her arms in frantic denial. She’s so adorable when she does that—I can’t help but be completely smitten.
Damn it! Why can’t my brain record this like a movie? I’ve never regretted being just a regular human more than I do now.
“You two are really close. Alright, Lise—your turn.”
Impressive. Isabelle just summed it all up with “you two are close.”
“Um… I’m Lise. I’m an alchemist. I’ll do my best not to slow anyone down. I guess I like rabbits?”
“Oh? Do you have one?”
At Isabelle’s question, Lise tilted her head with a puzzled expression. So cute, as always.
“Huh? No, I don’t have one.”
“Rabbits are great.”
“Yeah! They’re delicious!”
“…Excuse me?”
“…What?”
Apparently, Isabelle, a lover of all things cute, and Lise, who sees rabbits as food, didn’t quite see eye to eye.
