[Lucky Overpowered] — I Became a Background Character Meant to Die in the Game’s Opening, But Now I’m Overpowered and Fighting to Save My All-Time Favorite Alchemist Heroine - Episode 30
“Negotiating with a golem? Is that even possible?”
Isabelle looked at me with utter disbelief. Well, I suppose it’s only natural to be skeptical—after all, golems are inorganic creatures.
“It is possible. For someone like me, who carries the soul of an ancient.”
“I see… So, you’re still clinging to that ancient soul claim. Fine, if you think you can do it, go ahead and prove it.”
“I will. And if I do succeed, will you believe me when I say the monster in the forest is a Soul Eater? And, if possible, lend your strength to defeat it?”
“I suppose I can at least consider it…”
Isabelle’s defenses were high—understandable, given that her life could be on the line. It made sense she’d be cautious.
Still, with Isabelle, there was room for negotiation.
“Isabelle, imagine this: the two of us accomplish a quest that even the ‘Hero of Dawn’—Barro’s most promising young adventurer—failed to complete. What do you think will happen?”
“…How much do you really know?”
Her eyes narrowed sharply. I could feel a hint of both suspicion and hostility in her gaze.
“Just rumors. You’re not exactly hiding it, are you? And I’m not here to make an enemy out of you.”
“…Fine. I’ll trust you—for now.”
With a slight huff, she turned her face away. I had a feeling I’d just lost a few points in her favorability, but getting Isabelle—a powerful ally—on board for the Soul Eater battle was worth the risk.
Everything I was doing, I did for Lise.
“So, uh… what exactly is happening here?”
“Yeah, explain it so we can understand, too.”
Gilles and Gustave, who had been left in the dark, finally spoke up. They must have been waiting for my conversation with Isabelle to wrap up. Surprisingly polite of them—perhaps Isabelle had taught them well.
“We’re heading to the Golem Mansion on the outskirts of town. If I can get a weapon from the golem there, I want you to believe what I said about the Soul Eater. Deal?”
At that, Gilles and Gustave exchanged confused glances.
“Wait, Golem Mansion? That broken-down mansion with the huge golem guarding it? You think there’s anything useful in a place like that?”
“Wasn’t that place off-limits or something…?”
Gilles looked puzzled; Gustave looked worried.
“Just trust me. Let’s go.”
And with that, we exited the dungeon and made our way to Golem Mansion, located on the eastern outskirts of Barro.
The mansion lay outside the defensive walls built to protect the city. In the game, monsters didn’t appear in the area, but I decided to stay alert—just in case.
“So, this is Golem Mansion…”
Surrounded by trees, the first thing that came into view was a massive golem, resembling an earthen idol. It stood at least four meters tall—intimidating by any measure.
Behind the golem loomed a crumbling stone structure, less a manor and more of a fortress.
“It’s huge… Can we even beat something like that…?”
“Gilles, we’re not here to fight it.”
“Are you sure this is safe?”
“Yeah, don’t worry.”
As I answered, I removed the longbow and quiver slung over my shoulder, along with the twin daggers at my waist. When interacting with golems, it was crucial to be unarmed.
“It’s probably unnecessary, but if the golem does attack me, don’t try to fight. Just run. We’re not strong enough to handle it yet.”
With that, I approached the golem unarmed. Even though I knew it wouldn’t attack, its sheer size still triggered an instinctual fear response.
I stood directly before it.
Upon closer inspection, the golem’s body was covered in nicks and scratches—signs of its long years guarding this place.
“Mahoroba no yume.”
As I whispered the passphrase, the golem’s eye—if it could be called that—lit up with a blue glow.
I crouched slightly, ready to flee if necessary—but nothing happened.
After a short moment, something emerged from the building: a smaller golem. It walked toward me, holding a stone tray above its head. On the tray sat a single pair of gloves.
I accepted the gloves from the small golem, which then turned and returned to the manor.
Phew. That went better than expected—it followed the game’s mechanics perfectly.
The Golem Mansion was actually a support system for beginners. If the correct keyword was spoken in front of the golem, it would grant the player a useful item for the early game.
As a self-proclaimed gaming addict, I had all the passphrases memorized.
I’d always meant to come here eventually, but now was the perfect opportunity. Might as well claim every item while I’m at it.
“Tsuki no izumi… Ibara no ken… Kuroki byakuya…”
One by one, I recited the phrases I remembered.
Each time, the golem’s eyes glowed blue, and a mini-golem emerged with another item in hand.
