[Lucky Overpowered] — I Became a Background Character Meant to Die in the Game’s Opening, But Now I’m Overpowered and Fighting to Save My All-Time Favorite Alchemist Heroine - Episode 8
“I’m home!”
After selling the rabbit pelts at the Adventurers’ Guild, I returned to the cheap inn known as the Tiger’s Den.
Maybe it was thanks to my Gift, [Luck], but the drop rate for rabbit pelts—the usual loot from horned rabbits—and even the rare drop of rabbit meat seemed better than it was in the game.
My Gift hasn’t developed much yet, so the difference is probably minor. But once it grows, I could become an indispensable party member for farming rare items with low drop rates.
The same goes for my archery accuracy. Even though I’m a beginner, I managed to hit moving targets with over 80% accuracy. That’s likely because the Luck stat adds bonuses to hit rates too.
So, my basic fighting style is shaping up to be: attack from range with a powerful bow, and switch to a dagger if the enemy gets close.
While I was lost in thought, my eyes met with Lise’s—her face pale with shock. Her lips trembled as she struggled to speak.
“G-Gee!? Are you okay!?”
Without waiting for a response, Lise shot up from her chair, nearly knocking it over, and rushed toward me to check my condition.
Well, I guess it’s natural to panic when someone you know shows up covered in bl00d. Even the receptionist at the guild looked worried.
“I’m fine, Lise. I made it thanks to the beginner potion you gave me.”
“But you’re soaked in bl00d… and your clothes are full of holes… Are you really okay?”
“I’m really okay. I just got a little careless.”
I pulled up my bloodstained shirt to show her. My abs—slightly defined—were completely unscathed.
“Well, if you say so… Geez! I was really worried about you!”
“Sorry about that, Lise.”
“If you’re going to come back looking like this, I definitely can’t let you go into dungeons alone anymore! I’m coming with you next time!”
“That might not be such a bad idea.”
“Geez! Take this seriously!”
“I got it, I got it. But can I go change first? The bl00d’s dry, but it’s all crusty and gross.”
“Alright. Leave your clothes with me. I’ll wash and patch them up.”
“Thanks. Oh, and actually—I sold the drop items and earned a little bit of money.”
I handed her some coins, expecting her to be pleased, but instead, Lise looked angry.
Why? I thought she’d be happy.
“Your life is more important than money! You really scared me…”
“Yeah… you’re right.”
Honestly, if our positions were reversed and Lise came back all beat up, I’d be worried too. I’d say she mattered more than any amount of money.
“But, if you don’t mind… I’d like you to have this instead.”
Saying that, I pulled a red lump out of my backpack.
“What is it?”
“Rabbit meat. It’s a rare drop from the Horned Rabbits. I got lucky and managed to snag three. I figured you, me, and Gael could share it.”
“Whoa! Are you okay!?”
Right then, Gael walked into the dining area and caught sight of me. He looked genuinely startled.
“No injuries now. Anyway, Gael—think you can cook us a good dinner with this?”
“As long as you’re alright… Sure thing! And what’s this?”
“Rabbit meat. Rare drop from the dungeon’s horned rabbits.”
“Oh ho, that stuff’s supposed to be great—but real hard to come by. Three pieces, huh? Looks like luck’s on your side. Alright, leave it to me! I’ll whip up the best meal you’ve ever had!”
Taking the meat from me, Gael happily returned to the kitchen.
After I changed, Lise and I sat down to eat the rabbit meat—and it was so good I thought my cheeks would fall off. Gael had simply grilled it into steaks, but the meat was tender, subtly sweet, and incredibly flavorful even with just a sprinkle of salt. No wonder it’s said that even rich merchants like Gael rarely get their hands on it.
“This is the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten!”
Across the table, Lise clutched her cheeks with both hands, wearing an expression of pure bliss. Just seeing that made me happy too.
“Right? It’s insanely good.”
“It really is!”
In my previous life, I once splurged on some A5-grade wagyu—it was absolutely delicious. But this rabbit meat? It could stand toe-to-toe with it.
Even with my [Luck] Gift, I only managed to get three pieces after an entire day in the dungeon. Clearly, supply is far lower than demand. In the game, it fetched a high price, but I wonder how much it would go for in the real market.
Selling it would help with my limited funds, but after tasting it once, I don’t really want to part with it. And besides…
“Haah…”
Right in front of me, Lise let out a soft, melancholic sigh. Her plate was already empty—no more steak in sight.
“It’s all gone…”
That sorrowful voice tugged at my heartstrings.
In the game, rabbit meat from the dungeon’s first floor was listed as Rabbit Meat (Small). In other words, not a lot of it. Higher floors had Rabbit Meat (Medium) and even Large, but I’m not strong enough to reach those yet.
We probably can’t afford to buy it either, so for now, we’ll have to make do with the small ones.
Still, since Lise liked it so much, maybe going back out to hunt some more isn’t such a bad idea.
