- Chapter 10 - I'll Pamper the Little One I've Taken In
Guan Yinghan’s father, Guan Shihao, and her mother, Zeng Li, were childhood sweethearts. They ran a shipping company. Just as Zeng Li was pregnant with her second child and nearing her due date, the Guan family’s shipping company fell into a huge financial crisis.Â
To save the company, Guan Shihao was forced to marry the daughter of ATV Bank’s CEO.
And so, Guan Yinghan and her mother were heartlessly abandoned by Guan Shihao and thrown into a place called Dawan Village. Dawan Village was remote and had terrible medical care. Zeng Li suffered a massive hemorrhage during childbirth, and both mother and baby died.Â
After her mother’s death, Guan Yinghan was left all alone, without a home. But even so, her stepmother would not let her go. She instructed the two maids who were supposed to care for her to abuse her without mercy.Â
Although Guan Yinghan was the eldest daughter of the Guan family’s main line, she lived a life worse than a stray dog on the street.
The maids would deliberately withhold food from her. When she was starving, she had no choice but to rummage through the trash can for food. That evening, after a whole day of starvation, Guan Yinghan was huddled next to a trash can in an alley, barefoot, gnawing on a moldy piece of bread.Â
The children in the village were disgusted by her sour smell and stayed away from her. Some of the naughtier ones even threw small stones at her, calling her a savage.
Just then, a little girl walked over, waving a willow branch to chase away all the children who were bullying her. In the glow of the setting sun, the little girl walked slowly towards Guan Yinghan, her back to the light. The little girl had two braids tied with purple ribbons.Â
She wore a white, puffy skirt, and her straight legs shone softly under the large hem.
She took two unopened pieces of bread from her bag and held them out to Guan Yinghan. When Guan Yinghan didn’t take them, she angrily threw away the moldy bread in her hand and then stubbornly pushed her own bread into Guan Yinghan’s hands.
The little girl said to her, “You’re not allowed to eat things from the trash can anymore.Â
From now on, you wait for me here every day at this time, and I’ll bring you food.”Â
The little girl also said to her, “From now on, if anyone curses you, you must curse them back.”
Her dark, bitter childhood was shaped by Ruoyun, who had pulled her out of the mud, warmed her, and cared for her, step by step…
The clinking of the plates by the restaurant’s waiter pulled Guan Yinghan’s thoughts back from her memories. On the table were a few dishes: braised pork, sweet and sour pork, stir-fried shrimp, and two vegetable dishes.
Lin Ruoyun tried to get her to sit down. “Naitang, sit down and eat.”
Guan Yinghan didn’t move her feet, but she picked up a rice bowl and put a piece of meat on Lin Ruoyun’s lips.Â
“Sister, your face is swollen. Naitang will feed you.”
Lin Ruoyun looked around. The public restaurant was an open space, and all eyes were on them. Seeing that she wasn’t eating, Guan Yinghan’s eyelashes drooped in disappointment. Her voice was soft, making it hard to refuse.Â
“Sister, just one bite. My hand is so tired.”
Fine! I’ll pamper the little one I’ve taken in.
Lin Ruoyun leaned in and slowly opened her mouth under Naitang’s hopeful gaze.
“Sister, is it good?” Guan Yinghan looked at Ruoyun lovingly. Tears welled up in her beautiful eyes, reflecting Lin Ruoyun’s face.
Lin Ruoyun’s nose tingled. She didn’t know why, but she always felt that this Alpha looked familiar, as if she had known her for a very, very long time. This familiar feeling made her heart ache. She wanted to take care of Naitang, to give her a safe place to stay, to make sure she was fed, dressed, and not bullied.
But… someday, she would have to leave Naitang. If Naitang could become a normal person, even if she wasn’t by her side in the future, she could still take care of herself.
Lin Ruoyun looked at her watch. It was still early. She decisively opened the official app for the city hospital and made an appointment for an afternoon neurology consultation.
Guan Yinghan didn’t expect Ruoyun to take her to the hospital. She stopped at the entrance of the department and looked at the large words “Psychiatric Consultation Room” on the LED screen. Her eyelids couldn’t help but twitch.Â
She hadn’t expected that acting dumb would be so technical, but since she had started, she had to see it through.
Guan Yinghan excused herself to go to the bathroom and used a tiny earpiece to tell her assistant, Ji Wan, to handle everything. Guan Yinghan knew that whenever she went out, Ji Wan would be with her, protecting her, but she was good at hiding.Â
Since her return to the Guan family, her stepmother, the First Madam, had persecuted her with increasing viciousness. So, her grandfather had secretly arranged for Ji Wan to follow her. Ji Wan had saved her from her stepmother’s schemes on multiple occasions.
Now, she was the head of the Runhai Group, and her stepmother had gone to China to recover from an illness. But protecting her seemed to be ingrained in Ji Wan’s nature. No matter how hard Guan Yinghan tried, she couldn’t get rid of her. She hadn’t expected Ji Wan to be so helpful this time.
After nearly two hours of comprehensive exams, Guan Yinghan’s report was ready and placed on the desk of Director Wang, the head of the neurology department. Ji Wan had already briefed Director Wang, so what he said now was all according to the script Guan Yinghan had given him.
“Well… according to the report, her body is fine. Her organs are normal, she’s not deaf or mute. As for her intelligence…”
Lin Ruoyun frowned. “What about her intelligence?”
Director Wang pretended to look at the report, pointing at the numbers that an amateur couldn’t understand.Â
“According to the report, her intellectual disability is not congenital. It’s most likely caused by an external factor, possibly a head injury or something else.”
Lin Ruoyun bit her lip and asked anxiously, “Can she… recover?”
Director Wang spoke nonsense with a straight face. “It’s hard to say. Maybe she’ll recover all at once with some kind of stimulation, but it’s also possible she’ll be like this for the rest of her life. You could try intervention therapy, but it’s a difficult process.Â
It requires someone to be there to take care of her and teach her patiently. Maybe then she can become a normal person.”
Lin Ruoyun’s gaze fell on Guan Yinghan. She was standing quietly in the corner, her eyes a bit lost and confused.
“Thank you, doctor. I understand.”
Lin Ruoyun stood up and calmly took Guan Yinghan’s hand to leave the consultation room. As they reached the door, Director Wang suddenly called out to her. Lin Ruoyun turned around, wondering.
 “Doctor, is there anything else?”
Director Wang’s body trembled slightly. He quickly glanced at Guan Yinghan and said something that wasn’t on the script.
“Miss, taking care of a patient like this will be very difficult.”
Lin Ruoyun smiled faintly. “I know.”
In a place where Lin Ruoyun couldn’t see, Guan Yinghan shot Director Wang a warning look. Director Wang flinched. For goodness sake, he was completely loyal to the Second Miss! He was just afraid that she would be let down, so he couldn’t help but test her.
Director Wang composed himself and continued.Â
“Miss, you’re not a relative of the patient. There’s no need for you to take care of her. How about this? I can contact a professional institution for you. We can even help you apply for a fee reduction.”
“No, thank you,” Lin Ruoyun said, still with a faint smile, her eyes gentle. Since I’ve decided to take care of Naitang, I’ll see it through. I won’t abandon her.”
Guan Yinghan’s eyes widened in a daze, and they quietly turned red.
Director Wang watched her walk away with Guan Yinghan. After her figure disappeared down the hallway, he gestured to the person behind the curtain. The curtain was pulled back, and Ji Wan wiped a drop of sweat from her forehead.Â
“Director Wang, why didn’t you follow the script I gave you? See? The Second Miss is mad that you acted on your own.”
Director Wang turned and sat in his chair. “I just feel for the Second Miss. She’s suffered so much these past few years. She has wounds all over her body. There were a few times I was afraid she wouldn’t make it… But now I can rest easily. Her Omega truly cares for her.”
Ji Wan nodded in agreement. Before, Ji Wan always thought the Second Miss was beautiful but too cold. But her love for Lin Ruoyun made her entire face come to life. It turns out the Second Miss… looks so beautiful when she smiles.
