Jiang Hui seemed to notice Lin Ruoyun’s unease. She walked over and patted her shoulder. “Miss Lin, you haven’t signed with a management company yet, have you? Would you consider letting me be your agent? 

Director Zhang said you’ve never had any formal acting training, so I’ll mentor you on this show, Dream’s Edge. Once you gain some popularity, I’ll step back and just focus on getting you jobs.”

Lin Ruoyun couldn’t believe her ears. Everyone in the industry knew that Jiang Hui was very selective about who she signed. Actresses did everything they could to get close to her, but she was willing to sign an unknown rookie like her and even mentor her in acting. It felt like a dream.

Lin Ruoyun clenched her hands. “Senior Jiang, are you… are you kidding me?”

Jiang Hui’s face suddenly turned serious. “Do I look like I’m kidding?”

Lin Ruoyun quickly apologized. “I’m sorry, Senior. I just feel…”

“Don’t worry. I’ve been in this industry since I was a child. I’ll make sure you get good jobs, and there won’t be any funny business.” Jiang Hui’s lips curved into a smile. She took two blank contracts from her bag and handed them to Lin Ruoyun. 

“You can look over the terms. If you agree, we’ll sign. As for your personal life, you can also rest assured that I won’t interfere.”

Lin Ruoyun held the contracts but didn’t say a word.

“Is there anything else you’re concerned about, Miss Lin?”

Lin Ruoyun admitted she was very tempted. But if she played the second female lead, her workload would definitely increase, her schedule would be interrupted, and she would have to travel for shoots at any time.

What about Naitang?

She couldn’t leave Naitang home alone.

“Senior, I have a little one at home. She…”

“Oh, you mean Naitang, right?” Jiang Hui smiled. “Director Zhang told me about your situation. The director and I have discussed it and agreed that you can bring her to the set.”

Lin Ruoyun’s eyes widened in surprise. “I brought Naitang to the set?”

Jiang Hui nodded, her face calm, but she was secretly thinking to herself. The entire film company has been acquired by the Second Miss of the Guan family. If she wants to stay on set, it’s her call.

But what Jiang Hui couldn’t understand was why the Second Miss was pretending to be a mentally disabled Alpha and staying by Lin Ruoyun’s side under the name Naitang. However, since the Second Miss had arranged for her to appear and sign Lin Ruoyun, all she had to do was complete the task. The rest was none of her business.

Jiang Hui saw Lin Ruoyun’s hesitation and, fearing a sudden change of heart, quickly grabbed a pen from the table and handed it to her. “Miss Lin, if there are no other issues, let’s sign the contract.”

Just as Lin Ruoyun was signing the contract, the new owner of the film company, Guan Yinghan, was secretly peeking through the window. The conference room was close to the props room. The staff were busy moving equipment, and the loud conversations and clanging metal masked the sound of approaching footsteps. 

Guan Yinghan’s entire attention was focused on the room and didn’t notice the person approaching until a familiar voice came from behind her.

“Second Miss!”

Guan Yinghan’s body stiffened, and her face turned pale. 

“Ji Wan, why are you here? Didn’t I tell you not to follow me anymore?”

Ji Wan shrank her head and smiled sheepishly. 

“I’m not… I’m not following you. I’m here to be a background actor.”

Guan Yinghan suppressed her anger. She grabbed her wrist and dragged her to the end of the hallway. “You’re here to be an actress? Are you kidding me? Do you know you’re an Alpha?”

It was well known that Omegas were rare in this society, and they had a unique physiology. They would go into heat periodically, and the higher their rank, the more frequent their heat cycles would be. 

An Omega’s heat would inevitably trigger an Alpha’s. Once an AO pair went into heat, the situation would become uncontrollable. So, production crews mainly chose female Omegas and male Omegas as actors.

Ji Wan rubbed her sore wrist and retorted in a voice as quiet as a mosquito’s buzz, “But aren’t you an Alpha too, Second Miss?”

Guan Yinghan gave her a cold glance. “I’m different. I’m a mentally disabled ‘fool’ now. I can’t do anything, so I’m safe from Omegas.”

Ji Wan silently rolled her eyes. My Second Miss, you are truly something, okay? Don’t you know how safe you are?

Bodyguards in the public’s imagination were cold and silent, but Ji Wan was the opposite. She was cheerful and talkative, and she loved to be a smart aleck. She didn’t dare to be too brazen in front of Guan Yinghan, but she was a loose cannon in private. 

“Don’t worry, Second Miss. I’m also safe with Omegas now.”

As Ji Wan spoke, she lifted the black hair from the back of her neck, exposing her scent gland, and slowly moved closer to Guan Yinghan. A strong, Omega-like lemon-scented pheromone was released.

Guan Yinghan’s eyebrows furrowed slightly. 

“You…”

Ji Wan looked up triumphantly and mumbled under her breath, not afraid of a thing. 

“I learned this from you. You can pretend to be a ‘fool,’ so I can pretend to be an ‘O.’ Second Miss, let me stay by your side.”

Guan Yinghan frowned in disgust. In this world, besides Ruoyun’s fresh, amber scent, all other Omega pheromones had an unpleasant smell. Guan Yinghan raised her hand and fanned the air around her nose, trying to disperse the pungent lemon smell. 

Her voice was extremely suppressed and concise. “I don’t need you here.”

Ji Wan had her words ready and was about to try and persuade the Second Miss again, when Lin Ruoyun’s hurried and panicked voice suddenly came from the hallway.

“Naitang… Naitang… Where are you?”

Guan Yinghan’s eyelashes fluttered. She lowered her voice and quickly gave an order. 

“Ji Wan, from now on, your mission is to protect Ruoyun. Do you understand?”

Roughly speaking, following Lin Ruoyun was the same as staying by the Second Miss’s side. Ji Wan was instantly happy, her eyes curving into a crescent shape. 

“Yes, Second Miss!”

Guan Yinghan didn’t say anything else to her. She came out from the corner of the hallway and walked quickly towards Lin Ruoyun.

“Sister, I’m over here.”

Lin Ruoyun turned around, her worry clearly visible in her eyes. “I told you to stay in the lounge. Why are you running around?”

Guan Yinghan hooked her hand, her fierce aura completely gone, replaced by Naitang’s unique innocent and silly look. 

“Sister, I’ve been waiting for you for a long time… I was worried about you…”

Lin Ruoyun didn’t know where all her panic had come from. Her heart didn’t calm down until she saw Naitang. Her fingers instinctively intertwined with Guan Yinghan’s, holding on tightly. “Naitang, don’t worry. From now on, you don’t have to wait outside. You can stay by your sister’s side.”

Just as I expected.

Guan Yinghan tried her best to look excited. “That’s great.”

After signing the contract, it was almost noon. Lin Ruoyun held Guan Yinghan’s hand and went to the set to get familiar with the environment. 

Just in time, they ran into a staff member handing out lunch boxes. On a film set, even though the main actors looked glamorous, their treatment was actually similar to that of the extras. They also ate from lunch boxes for lunch.

At the small tables in the resting area, the extras were eating their lunch and chatting with each other. The Omegas gathered together were just a gossip group. Lin Ruoyun walked into this field of gossip with her lunch box and heard some big news about her new agent, Jiang Hui.

Extra A: “Hey, hey, hey, have you heard? Our production company, Wuyang Pictures, has been acquired by Runhai Group. Our current lead actress, Jiang Hui, was personally chosen by the Second Miss of the Guan family. 

I heard that Zhan Qing went and cried to her sugar daddy, but he didn’t dare to stand up for her.”

Extra B: “Zhan Qing is nothing. Empress Jiang has the backing of the Runhai Group. With the name of the Second Miss of the Guan family out there, who would dare to not listen?”

Extra A: “Exactly. With the Second Miss of the Guan family backing her, Jiang Hui can do whatever she wants in this industry.”

Extra C: “Speaking of the Second Miss of the Guan family, she’s a real mystery. She never appears in public. The rumors say she was thrown out by the Guan family as a child and left to fend for herself. If the Guan family’s first-in-line heir hadn’t died in a car crash, they would have never thought to bring her back. 

Who would’ve thought that in just five years, the Second Miss would take over the entire Runhai Group and even force the First Madam of the Guan family to flee to another country?”

The conversation turned to a more sensitive topic. The few Omega extras lowered their voices, but the subject of their gossip—the Second Miss of the Guan family, Guan Yinghan—heard everything clearly. Damn, a scoop just fell from the sky while I was sitting on set.

I’m Jiang Hui’s sugar daddy? And it’s even being talked about in detail.

I wonder if Ruoyun heard anything?

Guan Yinghan carefully glanced at Lin Ruoyun. She saw her holding her lunch box with a blank expression, seemingly not interested in the topic of the Omegas’ conversation. She secretly let out a sigh of relief.
