Dr. He finished the examination, removed all the equipment from Lin Ruoyun, and looked up at Miss Guan Yinghan apologetically.

 “Second Miss, I’m sorry.”

Guan Yinghan held the slightly twitching Lin Ruoyun close, soothing her with gentle strokes on her back. Once Lin Ruoyun had calmed down, Guan Yinghan turned and asked, 

“Dr. He, besides this treatment, is there any other way for Ruoyun to regain her memory?”

Dr. He shook his head and patiently explained, “Generally, amnesia can be divided into two types. One is selective amnesia, and the other is memory tampering.”

He paused and sighed. “Miss Lin’s situation is very special. Based on my experience, she likely has both.”

When the words “memory tampering” were mentioned, Guan Muwei’s professional police instincts kicked in. She squeezed forward and offered her own deduction.

“I bet… the memory about Grandma Lin is something my cousin-in-law chose to forget herself.”

Guan Muwei had a habit of stroking her chin whenever she analyzed a case. “Grandma Lin died in the fire, and my cousin-in-law couldn’t handle such a huge shock, so she subconsciously chose to forget it.”

She stroked her chin again. “But the memory about my cousin, that was tampered with on purpose by someone.”

Guan Yinghan seemed to be consumed by immense guilt and didn’t speak for a long time. It was her assistant, Ji Wan, who stepped forward and spoke up in defiance. 

“Miss Muwei, isn’t that a bit of a stretch? You’re making a huge leap. Why don’t you go write a screenplay?”

“No, I completely agree with Muwei’s analysis,” Dr. He interjected. “It’s true. Someone used a certain method to inject a drug that inhibits the PKM protein—which is related to memory—into Miss Lin’s brain. It erased all memories of Second Miss. They then filled in a complete and flawless false memory chain in its place.”

Guan Muwei proudly raised her chin at Ji Wan, and Ji Wan silently took a step back.

At that moment, Dr. He’s assistant handed him a file. He opened the report, and his expression turned serious. “Miss Lin’s scent gland shows no trace of Second Miss’s pheromones.”

Guan Yinghan’s face changed drastically. She looked at Dr. He in disbelief. “That’s impossible!”

Dr. He met her gaze. “Second Miss, if you really did mark Miss Lin, then there is only one possibility: someone washed your pheromones out of her scent gland.”

Dr. He continued, explaining, “A full marking is when an Alpha injects their pheromones into an Omega’s scent gland. Afterward, when the Omega is in heat, they will only react to that Alpha’s pheromones.”

Guan Muwei chimed in again. 

“So can I understand a full marking as a biological marriage certificate that can’t be voided?”

“Yes, but where there is marriage, there is bound to be divorce,” Dr. He nodded. “When an Alpha and Omega get a ‘divorce,’ and the Omega wants to remarry, some Alphas will mind the residual pheromones from another Alpha in the Omega’s body. They might demand that the Omega gets the marking washed away, but this process is incredibly painful for the Omega.”

“Let me put it this way: If we divide pain into levels, and the pain of childbirth is a level 13, then the pain of washing away pheromones is three levels higher than that. It is excruciatingly painful. Didn’t the news report recently that a divorced Omega wanted a new life and had a marking removal procedure, and died on the operating table?”

Guan Yinghan held Ruoyun tightly, burying her face in her neck. Her voice was muffled and trembling. 

“Who… who could be so cruel as to do this to Ruoyun? I said I would protect her, but I lost her for so long and let her suffer such a great injury.”

Guan Yinghan was wracked with guilt. A sharp pain gripped her heart.

 “Ruoyun was suffering all alone… I failed to protect her…”

“Cousin, how can you blame yourself?” Guan Muwei said, her heart aching. 

She patted Guan Yinghan’s shoulder comfortingly. 

“For the past five years, you’ve been living under Auntie’s constant attacks. 

You could barely protect yourself. If Auntie knew about your cousin-in-law’s existence, she would definitely harm her. So by not searching for her, you were actually protecting her in a way.”

Dr. He closed the report and announced a very important test result.

“Second Miss, we found a trace amount of a drug in Miss Lin’s bl00d. This drug is specifically used to inhibit freesia pheromones.”

Dr. He took a deep breath. “I think Miss Lin must have loved you very much. She was very dependent on your pheromones. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have used this inhibitor after washing your pheromones away. They used it to suppress Miss Lin’s subconscious memory of you. They wanted her to forget you completely.”

Guan Yinghan’s pupils trembled, and she clenched her teeth until they almost bled. “No wonder Ruoyun is repulsed by my pheromones. So does that mean I won’t be able to again…”

Dr. He knew what Guan Yinghan was worried about and waved his hand. 

“Second Miss, don’t worry. Once Miss Lin stops taking this drug, she will crave and depend on your pheromones even more. However, this drug evaporates easily, and there will be no trace of it after about a week, so—”

Guan Yinghan tensed her shoulders, her entire demeanor intense and imposing. 

“So, the person who drugged Ruoyun could be the same person who tampered with her memory, right?”

“Exactly. But Miss Lin currently has a complete memory chain, which makes her a new person. So no matter what you say, she won’t believe you.”

Guan Yinghan took off her jacket and wrapped it tightly around Lin Ruoyun. She picked her up from the examination table.

 “I understand. Thank you, Dr. He.”

Guan Yinghan carried her back to the car, pulled down all the sunshades, and sat in the shadows in silence.

After a long time, she pressed her cheek against Lin Ruoyun’s. A tear fell onto Lin Ruoyun’s forehead. 

“Ruoyun, I promise, there will be no more pain from now on. With me here, no one can bully you.”

She had to stay by Ruoyun’s side, find the people who hurt her, and make them pay a thousand times over.
