Married the Second Generation Fox Demon with a Baby in a Flash Marriage (GL) - Chapter 18
The wind carried a slight chill. The steps leading down into the river were repeatedly battered by the murky water. Ye Xinyu, dressed in black clothing, walked slowly down the steps, letting the river water soak her sneakers. She appeared to be strolling, but in reality, she was suppressing her aura, using herself as bait to lure the demon in the river.
Many people had died mysteriously near Binhe Avenue recently, and Ye Xinyu had been investigating the matter for some time.
The demon was hiding in the water, making it difficult to capture. Its senses were also dulled by the water, so unless it took the initiative to come out, Ye Xinyu had no way of finding it. After several failed attempts to lure it out, Ye Xinyu decided to use herself as bait. She had been “fishing” for two days already.
Just as Ye Xinyu was focusing on sensing the situation in the water, she felt someone approaching. Turning her head, she saw a girl with long curly hair, dressed in a pink dress, walking down the steps towards her. Her face held a shy and nervous expression. It was Lin Yunya.
“Sister Ye!” Lin Yunya called out softly, wringing her hands nervously as she saw Ye Xinyu looking in her direction.
Ye Xinyu frowned. The area had been cleared and caution tape had been put up. The reason she hadn’t arranged for many people to be nearby was to avoid alerting the demon in the water. She hadn’t expected this girl to cross the cordon.
It seemed today’s “fishing” was over. Ye Xinyu stopped walking towards Lin Yunya and gestured for her to halt, pointing upwards to indicate she should go back up.
Lin Yunya looked at Ye Xinyu, somewhat excited, and waved her hand. Before she could follow Ye Xinyu’s instructions, she felt something wrap around her ankle.
“Ah…” Lin Yunya screamed. The thing wrapped around her ankle suddenly pulled, dragging Lin Yunya down onto the steps. Her body slammed heavily onto the stone, causing her to cry out in pain. A cold, slimy feeling on her ankle filled her with terror, and she screamed wildly as she was visibly dragged towards the water.
Ye Xinyu was shocked and quickly ran towards Lin Yunya. The sudden burst of speed caused a sharp pain in her abdomen, making her stumble. However, with a life at stake, Ye Xinyu ignored the discomfort in her stomach. She only paused for a moment before continuing to run, simultaneously channeling her spiritual energy to form hand seals. This action made her stomach hurt even more, and the spiritual energy in her body was rapidly depleted. Unable to control it, she suddenly collapsed onto the steps.
On the other side of the bank, Hu Mengmeng watched Lin Yunya descend the steps and disappear from view. Just as she was wondering whether to go take a look, she felt something surging in the river ahead. The aura felt familiar – it was a demon’s aura.
Immediately afterwards, Hu Mengmeng heard Lin Yunya’s scream. Hu Mengmeng guessed that Lin Yunya must be in danger. She quickly got off her electric scooter and rushed over. As she ran, her body transformed, and her fox spirit bloodline surged forth, spreading throughout her body.
Below the steps, half of Lin Yunya’s body had already been dragged into the water. Hu Mengmeng leaped forward and grabbed Lin Yunya. Long, sharp claws grew from her fingertips and slid onto the tentacle encircling Lin Yunya’s ankle.
The tentacle was slashed open by Hu Mengmeng and instantly recoiled.
Hu Mengmeng quickly hugged Lin Yunya and jumped upwards, clearing several steps.
Lin Yunya screamed in terror, tightly clutching Hu Mengmeng.
As Hu Mengmeng carried Lin Yunya away, she saw another person on the riverbank.
That person was slumped on the steps, which were wet with river water. Their head was lowered, long hair falling and trailing into the water, and Hu Mengmeng couldn’t tell if they were injured or what.
Hu Mengmeng carried Lin Yunya to the railing above the steps. Several people ran over from a distance, one of whom was Lin Yunya’s follower, Gu Mingzhen, along with a few others she didn’t recognize.
Hu Mengmeng put Lin Yunya down.
Lin Yunya was still screaming with her eyes closed. Hu Mengmeng patted her, and she opened her eyes, staring at Hu Mengmeng in astonishment. She had never seen such a bewitching and beautiful woman before.
“Xiao Ya, don’t be afraid!” Hu Mengmeng said to Lin Yunya. The aura of that demon appeared again.
“It’s safe!” Hu Mengmeng said and quickly turned around, jumped over the railing, and went down the steps. Hu Mengmeng wanted to check on the other girl on the riverbank.
Since she had the ability, Hu Mengmeng wouldn’t stand by and watch someone die.
Hu Mengmeng jumped down the steps and saw the tentacle that had just grabbed Lin Yunya’s ankle now wrapped around the black-clad woman on the steps. The black-clad woman had her head lowered and seemed to be struggling to get ashore.
Black energy surged in the river. Hu Mengmeng could sense that the monster was particularly excited, as if it had caught delicious food.
Hu Mengmeng quickly jumped over and grabbed the woman’s arm, pulling her close with one hand. With the other hand, she tried to use the previous method to remove the tentacles wrapped around the woman, but unexpectedly, several more tentacles suddenly shot out from the water, coiling and wrapping around both her and the woman. Before she could react, a powerful force dragged both of them into the water.
The river water in late October was somewhat icy. Her clothes were soaked in the cold water, and Hu Mengmeng instantly felt a bone-chilling cold.
Hu Mengmeng’s fingernails instantly grew long and sharp, piercing into the tentacles wrapped around them. She tried to tear the tentacles open, but they seemed impervious to pain, tightening their grip and dragging the two of them towards the center of the river.
Hu Mengmeng vaguely saw the water demon’s body. It was the size of a water buffalo, like an octopus, with a mouth full of several layers of sharp teeth, drooling as it waited for them to get closer so it could swallow them. Black energy surrounded it.
Hu Mengmeng felt her scalp tingle, holding her breath, forcefully pulling at the tentacles. Suddenly, she felt a lithe body wrap around her neck and waist – it was the black-clad woman who had been dragged down with her.
The woman who had been looking down was now level with her, facing her.
Hu Mengmeng’s eyes widened, and she choked on water.
The visibility in the murky water wasn’t good, but Hu Mengmeng still recognized her.
Those delicate and beautiful eyebrows, eyes, and facial features, that calm, cold, and aloof demeanor, showing not a trace of panic even in the water – wasn’t she the female demon hunter who had been full of fierce intent to stab her with her sword and had been “charmed” by her?!
“Holy crap, this woman is doing this on purpose!” Hu Mengmeng thought in shock.
She hadn’t sensed her aura just now, meaning she had concealed it!
She was a demon hunter, which meant she had deliberately concealed her aura to catch a demon!
It was too late for Hu Mengmeng to regret.
The woman holding Hu Mengmeng was Ye Xinyu.
Her stomach had really hurt just now, and after collapsing on the ground, she had wanted to get up when she sensed Hu Mengmeng’s aura.
Hu Mengmeng had rushed over to save someone without concealing her aura in her haste.
Watching Hu Mengmeng rescue Lin Yunya, Ye Xinyu had breathed a sigh of relief and then felt the demon in the water still surging, coming towards her and wrapping around her ankle.
Ye Xinyu’s original intention was to let the water demon grab her, and then she would use the weapon she had brought to kill it. However, Ye Xinyu’s physical condition wasn’t good at the moment, so she wasn’t going to risk it. She reached for the dagger tucked into her calf, intending to cut off the tentacle, but then she sensed Hu Mengmeng coming over.
Ye Xinyu hadn’t expected Hu Mengmeng to return to save her. She only paused for a moment before Hu Mengmeng put her arm around her shoulder, interrupting her action.
The slight discomfort Ye Xinyu had felt in her stomach suddenly disappeared, replaced by a strangely comfortable sensation.
Ye Xinyu was stunned for a moment, and then the two of them were dragged into the water together.
The icy water made Ye Xinyu shiver. The tentacles pressed her and Hu Mengmeng together, and the warmth radiating from Hu Mengmeng made her feel a little warmer.
Hu Mengmeng was busy tearing at the tentacles. Ye Xinyu didn’t forget the weapon she had brought. She hugged Hu Mengmeng from the front, raised her leg, and reached for the dagger strapped to her calf under her pants. She pulled it out and at the same time tore off the underwater breathing mask from her other leg. Both were preparations for fighting the water demon underwater.
Hu Mengmeng was so surprised by Ye Xinyu’s actions that she choked on water. Ye Xinyu pressed the breathing mask onto Hu Mengmeng’s face, and Hu Mengmeng finally took a breath of oxygen.
Hu Mengmeng stared at Ye Xinyu with wide eyes. Ye Xinyu’s arm was around Hu Mengmeng’s back, holding the dagger. Her finger slid across the dagger, as if pressing a switch, and golden characters appeared on the dagger in the water.
Hu Mengmeng suddenly felt a chill down her spine. She had an instinctive fear – was Ye Xinyu going to kill her?!
As Hu Mengmeng struggled, she only felt Ye Xinyu hug her tighter. Then, a surge of heat rushed from behind her, and her vision turned red.
It was Ye Xinyu using the dagger to slash at the water demon.
Hu Mengmeng turned her head to look. The dagger in Ye Xinyu’s hand sliced through the water demon’s body as easily as cutting through melon. The small dagger glowed with golden light underwater, directly cutting the water demon in half.
The tentacles wrapped around them loosened. Hu Mengmeng felt that the water demon was no longer breathing!
Ye Xinyu patted Hu Mengmeng and pulled her arm upwards forcefully. Hu Mengmeng woke up from her shock and quickly kicked her legs, hugging Ye Xinyu and swimming upwards with all her might.
Ye Xinyu’s dagger no longer felt powerful, as if its energy had been used up. However, Hu Mengmeng didn’t know if Ye Xinyu had any other tricks up her sleeve. Since they were both going up anyway, she just brought Ye Xinyu along.
Emerging from the water with Ye Xinyu, they were already in the middle of the river.
Ye Xinyu hugged Hu Mengmeng, panting, her head resting on Hu Mengmeng’s shoulder, her hands still around Hu Mengmeng’s neck. Being this close made her feel a little better, but the exertion just now had left her exhausted, her body weak, and she couldn’t even speak a word between gasps.
Hu Mengmeng heard a loud buzzing sound. Turning her head, she saw a helicopter in the sky and several boats on the water.
Hu Mengmeng felt a headache coming on. Was she about to be caught?
She couldn’t be captured!
Hu Mengmeng looked around. The nearest bank was quite high with a railing, and there was no one there. If she swam over and quickly ran, concealing her aura and bloodline, they shouldn’t be able to find her.
But what about the person in her arms?
Hu Mengmeng reached out to push Ye Xinyu away. She had expected a struggle, but unexpectedly, she pushed her away easily. The arms that had been holding her so tightly loosened, and the legs around her waist slid down. After being pushed away, Ye Xinyu tilted her head back and sank downwards. In the dim light, Hu Mengmeng only saw her frowning, her eyes half-closed, clearly uncomfortable.
Looking at Ye Xinyu’s appearance, Hu Mengmeng felt a sudden, inexplicable pang in her heart. She abruptly reached out and wrapped her arms around Ye Xinyu’s waist, pulling her up from the water and holding her close.
Ye Xinyu’s body was soft and cold, limply resting against Hu Mengmeng.
