Marrying My Ex-Wife's Mortal Enemy (GL) - Chapter 4
Chu Li stood at the doorway for a moment before staggering inside, tugging at her clothes as she walked.
Dou Huan nearly choked on her own bl00d. She shot up from the bed, grabbed a photo frame from the nightstand, and held it like a weapon. If Chu Li dared try anything, she was ready to crack her skull open.
But instead of doing anything, Chu Li stumbled to the edge of the bed and collapsed—completely still.
Was she dead?
She better not die in her room, and definitely not on her bed!
Dou Huan circled around, still clutching the frame, and nudged Chu Li’s leg with her foot. Seeing Chu Li twitch slightly, she relaxed a bit. At least she wasn’t dead.
But sleeping in her bed? What the hell was that?
And she was even snuggling her blanket!
Unforgivable.
“Get up!”
Dou Huan flipped the lights on and marched over to pull her up. The stench of alcohol hit her as soon as she got close—gross, absolutely disgusting.
Chu Li frowned in irritation, withdrawing her arms like a child who hated being disturbed in sleep. She rolled over and ignored her.
Dou Huan let out a breath and rolled her eyes.
Forget it. She stormed out to knock on Aunt Chen’s door.
Aunt Chen quickly dressed and opened the door, startled to find Dou Huan fuming outside. “Madam, what’s wrong?”
“Sorry to bother you so late,” Dou Huan said stiffly, pointing upstairs. “Chu Li’s drunk and went into the wrong room. Come help me drag her out.”
“D-Drag her out?” Aunt Chen blinked, thinking maybe she hadn’t woken up properly.
“Just give me a hand,” Dou Huan said.
Aunt Chen followed her, still yawning, feeling like something was off about the Madam tonight.
Usually, if the second miss drank too much, Madam would be right there taking care of her—soft-spoken, attentive, and not leaving her side.
But now she was kicking her out?
She must be dreaming.
But when she followed Dou Huan into the room and saw Chu Li sprawled across the bed, clearly out cold, she started to believe it.
“Madam, the second miss is already asleep. Why not just let her stay with you tonight?”
“No.”
Dou Huan moved to lift Chu Li’s head and said flatly, “Help me with her legs.”
“Y-You really want to move her?”
Aunt Chen hesitated. After all, she was hired by Chu Li. Treating her employer like this felt wrong.
“Where am I supposed to sleep if she stays in here?” Dou Huan snapped, losing her patience. “Come on, help me.”
“Alright, alright.”
Madam’s temper was always sharp. Aunt Chen didn’t dare say more and went along.
Chu Li looked slim, but lifting her was like trying to haul a 200-pound hog—dead weight.
Dou Huan, who was raised in comfort, had never done physical labor in her life. Even the simple task of dragging Chu Li to the doorway was a challenge for her.
But hey—Chu Li was out of her room now. That’s what mattered.
“I can’t move her anymore,” Dou Huan said, voice trembling. “Leave her here.”
“Here?” Aunt Chen looked worried. “It’s cold at night. The second miss will catch a cold.”
Like I care, Dou Huan thought.
But for appearance’s sake, she said, “Then get her a blanket.”
With that, she shut the door behind her and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Glancing at the bed Chu Li had just contaminated, she grabbed a fresh bedsheet from the wardrobe, changed it, and collapsed in exhaustion.
Outside, Aunt Chen looked down at the unconscious second miss, helpless.
What was going on with Madam?
Even if they had a fight, this was too much. Not even letting her sleep inside? Perhaps she could consider placing Chu Li on the couch or in a more comfortable spot.
Chu Li was dead drunk—if she spent the night on the cold floor, she’d definitely get sick.
Worried, Aunt Chen decided to take the risk and wake her.
“Second Miss?” She gently shook Chu Li but got no response. So she pinched her nose.
Chu Li, unable to breathe, suddenly jolted awake.
“You’re awake,” Aunt Chen awkwardly apologized, saying, “I’m sorry. You wouldn’t wake up, and I didn’t want you to get sick, so I had to try something.”
“Where am I?” Chu Li blinked in confusion; her head was pounding.
She remembered hooking up with Tong Yi at the KTV, then heading to a hotel room. After everything was over, she’d started drinking heavily again, thinking about Dou Huan.
Someone had brought her home. She’d come back to confront Dou Huan.
Divorce? Seriously?
After all that chasing, all that devotion—treating her like a goddess—now she wanted to walk away just like that?
Barely a month into marriage and already she wanted out? What did she take her for?
Wasn’t she here to demand answers?
So how the hell had she ended up sleeping outside the room?
Chu Li stood up and twisted the doorknob. It was locked. Only then did she realize—it was Dou Huan’s room.
“Aunt Chen, tell me—why am I sleeping outside Huanhuan’s door?”
“I’m not sure,” Aunt Chen hesitated. “Madam said you were passed out at the door and told me to wake you.”
She tugged at the corner of her mouth awkwardly. No way was she going to say you got dumped at the door like trash.
Chu Li clearly didn’t buy that. Her expression darkened.
“Tell me the truth. I won’t get mad. But if you lie to me, you can pack your things and leave in the morning.”
“Second Miss!” Aunt Chen panicked. This was a great job—good pay, stable, and she couldn’t lose it.
“You came back drunk and went into Madam’s room. Then…”
Chu Li’s face darkened even more. “Was it her idea to throw me out and make me sleep on the floor?”
“It was the madam who helped me carry you out,” Aunt Chen said in a small voice. “I wouldn’t have been able to move you by myself.”
Chu Li was so angry that the alcohol instantly wore off. She marched over to Dou Huan’s door and grabbed the handle and twisted it hard. When it wouldn’t budge, she started pounding on it. “Dou Huan! Get out!”
Dou Huan, who had already been asleep, was jolted awake by the noise. She pulled the covers over her head and pretended not to hear, letting Chu Li yell all she wanted outside the door without giving her a single response.
Chu Li, livid, stormed downstairs and trashed the living room. Aunt Chen was so frightened that she hid in a corner, too scared to intervene.
Strangely enough, Dou Huan slept soundly through the second half of the night. Had Chu Li not woken her, she likely would have slept uninterrupted until ten in the morning.
But at eight-thirty in the morning, that damn Chu Li was already outside her door yelling and banging again, buzzing like a fly in her ear—utterly unbearable.
Still groggy as she got up, Dou Huan couldn’t tell if she was dreaming or not. Just to be sure, she pinched her own arm—hard.
“Ow, ow, ow…”
She rubbed her arm with a wince. As she did, last night’s embarrassing moment with Jing Yu suddenly flashed through her mind.
That fall had jarred her nerves. Her mouth twitched at the memory.
Even with Chu Li still banging on her door, she couldn’t stop herself from spiraling into that humiliating memory.
Especially that final glare from Jing Yu—it snapped her back to reality.
The next second, she dove into bed, flailing and kicking her legs in frustration.
“Ahhhhhh!!”
How utterly mortifying!
She’d always held herself up as a proud little princess in front of Jing Yu, but last night? That image had completely crumbled. Totally ruined.
How was she supposed to face Jing Yu again after that?
“AHHHHHHHHHH!!”
She kept punching the bed in frustration.
Chu Li was still shouting outside, completely ignored.
Wait—hold on a minute.
Before, she’d only wanted to go head-to-head with Jing Yu because of Chu Li. But now? She was about to divorce Chu Li and if the enemy of her enemy was her friend…
That meant not only did she not need to clash with Jing Yu anymore, but she should actually team up with her to take Chu Li down!
Once that thought clicked, Dou Huan no longer cared one bit about her humiliation last night.
In an instant, her crazy frustration melted away. She elegantly flipped her hair and got out of bed.
She took a refreshing shower, picked out a gorgeous dress, did her makeup flawlessly, and happily grabbed her bag before opening the door.
Outside, Chu Li was still in yesterday’s clothes. Her hair was a mess, and the dark circles under her eyes could rival a panda’s. She looked absolutely wrecked.
On the other hand, Dou Huan was the picture of perfection—like a little fairy.
Even Chu Li was momentarily stunned when she saw her.
Looking at the stark difference between them, Dou Huan thought, She’s not all that. I’m clearly better looking than she is.
“You’re blocking the door,” Dou Huan said, nudging Chu Li’s arm. “Move, please.”
Chu Li snapped out of her daze and grabbed her arm. She had been ready to unleash her full fury, but somehow, it all turned into silence: “Where are you going?”
Dou Huan raised an eyebrow. “It’s none of your business!”
She shoved Chu Li’s hand off. “Talk properly. Don’t pull at me.”
Chu Li followed her downstairs. “You’re my wife. How is it not my business?”
“Maybe you should wipe off that mess of lipstick on your face before talking to me.” Dou Huan gave Chu Li a look from head to toe, full of disdain. “You look like you’ve just been ruined by someone.”
Chu Li’s face instantly darkened, and Dou Huan further fueled the flames. “What? Want me to say it again?”
Chu Li: “……”
“Madam, Miss Dou, breakfast is ready,” Aunt Chen said carefully, standing off to the side. She was nervous—something about the atmosphere between these two today felt explosive.
Dou Huan felt secretly giddy watching Chu Li get taken down a notch, but when she heard Aunt Chen call her “madam,” the joy suddenly soured.
She remembered how happy she was the first day she married Chu Li, hearing Aunt Chen call her that. But now, it just felt grating.
“Aunt Chen, don’t call me ‘madam’ anymore.”
“Madam, wha—what’s wrong?”
Aunt Chen looked at her in confusion, then glanced at Chu Li, terrified she’d accidentally said something wrong and would get fired.
“If she doesn’t like it, just call her by her name—Dou Huan,” Chu Li said coldly.
Aunt Chen’s face immediately became awkward. “That… that doesn’t feel right…”
“What’s not right about it?”
Chu Li scoffed. “If she doesn’t think of herself as my wife, then you don’t need to treat her like one.”
“But…”
Aunt Chen looked completely lost.
Dou Huan casually dropped, “Chu Li, didn’t you sleep with your ex last night? What are you mad about?”
Aunt Chen’s eyes widened in shock. She wished she could vanish into thin air—anything to avoid being caught in the crossfire of these two gods fighting.
Chu Li had been drinking last night and was already in a foul mood. Add in Tong Yi’s seduction, and they ended up sleeping together. At the time, she hadn’t thought it was a big deal.
But now, with Dou Huan saying it so openly in front of someone else, it stung her pride.
Chu Li’s eyebrows furrowed tightly as her gaze locked onto Dou Huan’s flawless face. “Aren’t you the one who’s actually upset?”
Aunt Chen involuntarily nodded—just once—before realizing she shouldn’t, then awkwardly scratched her head and rolled her neck to ease the tension.
“Oh, so you cheat, and I’m the one who’s supposed to smile and forgive you?”
Before Chu Li could respond, Dou Huan crossed her arms and flashed a dazzling smile. “Well then, when I cheat, I expect you to be just as forgiving—and all smiles.”
“You wouldn’t dare!”
Chu Li was about to lose it.
Dou Huan held her chin high, not backing down at all. With the clear intent of driving Chu Li mad, she said, “Want to bet? Not only am I going to cheat, but I’ll also sleep with lots of women and give you a whole bouquet of green hats. If you can’t handle it, feel free to file for divorce.”
“You’re thinking about divorce because you’re already seeing someone, aren’t you?”
Suddenly remembering how Dou Huan had clung to Jing Yu last night, Chu Li grabbed her arm and demanded, “Is it Jing Yu? Are you two together?!”
“Yep!”
Dou Huan flung off her hand and gave her a light push, putting some distance between them. “I like Jing Yu. She’s gorgeous, comes from a good family, and has a clean reputation—unlike somebody with all kinds of stains on her record.”
“Dou Huan! Watch your mouth! Just because you’re my wife doesn’t mean I won’t hit you!”
“Go on, then, hit me!” Dou Huan clenched her bag. “See who’s afraid of whom!”
As the two shouted at each other, Aunt Chen stood off to the side, trembling. She was terrified they’d actually start fighting—and then what? Should she step in or stay out of it?
This was way too hard.
