Marrying My Ex-Wife's Mortal Enemy (GL) - Chapter 6
After greeting the guests, the banquet officially began and everyone started taking their seats.
Jing Xi was getting along quite well with Dou Huan, so she followed her and sat at the same table.
A little while later, Zhong Yunxin and Zhao Yu came over and brought Jing Yu along to sit with them.
Once they finished wishing Zhao Yu a happy birthday, the meal began.
Just then, Jing Xi’s phone rang.
Seeing that it was Jing Yan calling, she immediately answered.
“I ran into a friend here and already found a seat. Where are you?” she asked.
Whatever was said on the other end made Jing Xi get up. As she stood, she accidentally knocked over a glass of soy milk on the table.
Dou Huan didn’t dodge in time and ended up with the drink spilled all over her.
“I’m so sorry!” Jing Xi apologized while hastily grabbing some napkins to hand to Dou Huan. Annoyed, she muttered into the phone, “Ugh, I just spilled soy milk all over someone. I’m hanging up now.”
Dou Huan smiled as she wiped herself off with the napkins. “It’s fine, really.”
“You’re soaked…” Jing Xi looked troubled and turned to Jing Yu, biting her lip. “Yu-jie, could you lend Huan-jie a dress to change into?”
Her tone was tentative, clearly unsure.
Jing Yu glanced at Jing Xi after being suddenly called out. Jing Xi instinctively shrank back a little.
Zhao Yu stepped in to smooth things over. “Jing Yu, take Huanhuan upstairs to change into something dry.”
“No need,” Zhong Yunxin said with a polite smile. “We’ll be heading back soon. Don’t trouble yourselves.”
“It’s no trouble,” Zhao Yu replied warmly. “Changing takes just a moment.”
Not wanting to embarrass her mother, Zhao Yu, Jing Yu’s tone softened a bit. “Miss Dou, come with me.”
Dou Huan also didn’t want to refuse Zhao Yu’s kindness and followed Jing Yu upstairs.
She had assumed Jing Yu’s room would be decorated in a cold, minimalist style to match her personality—but to her surprise, it was the opposite.
The décor was warm and cozy, nothing like Jing Yu’s chilly demeanor.
“Come on, pick one,” Jing Yu said, leading her into the walk-in closet and opening the wardrobe.
Although Dou Huan had her own walk-in closet, it was noticeably smaller than Jing Yu’s.
Jing Yu had all kinds of dresses—many still with the tags attached to them. It was like having a department store right at home.
Since she was a few centimeters shorter than Jing Yu, she couldn’t pull off any of the longer dresses.
So she picked a shorter one instead. It was a little ill-fitting, but better than swimming in fabric.
The zipper ran down the back, and halfway through pulling it up, it got stuck. No matter what she did, it wouldn’t budge.
Left with no choice, she called out, “Jing-jie, can you please help me zip this up?”
After speaking, she turned her back and swept her hair to the front, revealing a smooth, fair nape and part of her back.
Jing Yu: “……”
She certainly knows how to issue commands without hesitation.
When Jing Yu didn’t respond right away, Dou Huan called again, “Jing-jie?”
Jing Yu finally stepped over and helped zip the dress up. Her cool fingertips brushed along Dou Huan’s warm back—soft and silky to the touch. She noticed the faint goosebumps rising on Dou Huan’s arms.
And she’s already married. Still this sensitive?
As they were leaving the room, a girl who looked exactly like Jing Xi appeared—but with a different outfit and noticeably cooler demeanor.
“Yu-jie, Mom said she left her phone in her room. I came up to get it for her,” she said.
Jing Yu nodded. “Okay, go ahead.”
Dou Huan stared in shock as the girl walked away and tugged on Jing Yu’s arm. “Wait… am I seeing things? She looks exactly like Jing Xi!”
Jing Yu glanced down at her hand, and when Dou Huan made no move to let go, she flicked the back of her hand. “They’re twins. Of course they look the same.”
“Ohhh, twins?” Dou Huan followed beside her. “That explains it. But the one just now was more reserved. Kind of like you.”
Jing Yu gave her a sideways glance, her voice cool with a hint of mockery. “Well, I’m not as “warm” as Miss Dou, who is always grabbing people or throwing herself at them.”
Dou Huan couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re really something. I touch your arm, and you act like I took a limb. If you think I got the upper hand, you can always grab me back! I’m not going to lose a piece of myself either. What are you afraid of?”
Jing Yu stopped walking and looked at her without any emotions.
With her unreadable face and unpredictable moods, Dou Huan—being the easygoing type—couldn’t quite tell whether she was angry or not.
But she wasn’t one to back down either. With her chin raised and eyebrows lifted, she appeared completely unbothered—almost as if she were challenging anyone who looked her way.
The next second, Jing Yu reached out, grabbed her arm, and yanked her into an embrace.
Caught off guard, Dou Huan stared at her in shock. Jing Yu’s eyes were fixed on hers, dark and unreadable. Dou Huan suddenly felt a little guilty.
“W-what are you doing? I—I mean, I know I said wildflowers are more fragrant and all, but this wildflower”—she ”gestured awkwardly—“I’m “not really interested, okay?”
Jing Yu gazed down at her, her sharp eyes catching every ounce of panic like a cat playing with a skittish kitten.
She leaned in slightly. Dou Huan’s eyes went wide, like a startled kitten with all its fur standing on end.
Just as Dou Huan was about to break free, Jing Yu smirked. “You want to pick me? Keep dreaming.”
With that, she let her go.
Dou Huan, flustered, yelled after her, “Who wants to pick you? You wish!”
The little kitten had finally lost her cool.
Jing Yu’s mood visibly improved. She couldn’t help but smile.

After leaving the Jing family’s house, Dou Huan got a call from Qi Yue, inviting her out for some shopping.
Dou Huan glanced at the dress she was still wearing—Jing Yu’s—and figured she might as well buy a new one to change into. So she agreed.
After dropping her mother, Zhong Yunxin, off at home, Dou Huan headed to the mall where they’d planned to meet.
“Huanhuan!!”
“Yueyue!!”
The moment they saw each other, both women jumped with excitement like little kids, hugging tightly and then walking hand in hand into the mall.
“You’re a married woman now,” Qi Yue said with a mischievous grin. “If I hold your hand like this, will people think I’m the mistress?”
“Of course not.”
They stepped into a clothing store. As Dou Huan picked up a dress to look at, she said casually, “I’m planning to get a divorce.”
“What? Ex-cuse me?”
Qi Yue dramatically cupped a hand around her ear. “I think my ears just went deaf. Say that again—I must’ve misheard.”
Dou Huan laughed at her antics. “I’m serious.”
“I don’t believe you.” Qi Yue shook her head. “You’ve got to be joking. But it’s not April Fools’ Day.”
“I used to like Chu Li a lot,” Dou Huan said as she picked out a short skirt and headed for the fitting room. “But I don’t anymore.”
“Is marriage really the grave of love?” Qi Yue trailed behind and waited outside the fitting room door. “You’ve only been married two months. That’s an early burial. Did she… did she do something to hurt you?”
Dou Huan paused while changing, sighed, and swept her hair over her shoulder.
“Yeah. She cheated.”
“Holy sh1t! I knew it!”
Qi Yue’s voice shot up. “I told you before—she’s got that cheater face! You didn’t listen. And now, look! Only two months into the marriage, and she shows her true colors. I support the divorce. People like her? Trash. The sooner you leave, the better.”
Dou Huan stepped out of the fitting room and handed her the clothes she’d changed out of. “Hold these for me.”
She turned to look in the mirror. The short skirt hugged her waist and made her legs look long. The style wasn’t bad—she actually liked it.
“This one’s it.”
“What about the one you’re wearing now?” Qi Yue asked, noticing the tag was still attached. “You’re not keeping it?”
“It’s not mine,” Dou Huan replied.
“Whose is it, then?” Qi Yue flipped the tag over. Five digits. She whistled. Whoever owned this dress must be just as rich as Dou Huan—giving away new dresses like it’s nothing.
“Jing Yu’s.”
Dou Huan pulled out her wallet and went to pay at the counter.
“Jing Yu?” Qi Yue’s voice went up an octave. “Why are you wearing Jing Yu’s dress? You two—wait, didn’t you hate her? No way—don’t tell me you’re sleeping with your enemy to get revenge on Chu Li for cheating? Are you serious? Enemies-to-lovers? This is wild!”
Dou Huan shot her a look while paying. “Give you a single keyword and you’ll spin an entire drama. Honestly, you should quit operations and start writing novels.”
“Bet,” Qi Yue said, rubbing her hands together eagerly. “I’m going to write fanfic about you two tonight.”
Dou Huan rolled her eyes but couldn’t help smiling. Then she gave a quick rundown of what had happened at Jing Yu’s place.
Qi Yue, of course, latched onto the juiciest part.
“Oh my god. Don’t you think Jing Yu is just the classic domineering CEO type? Even the way she grabbed your arm sounds hot. If she did that to me, my little heart would jump right out of my chest. That’s chemistry.”
Chemistry, my ass.
Dou Huan yanked her arm out of Qi Yue’s grip. She thought back to that moment. Sure, her heart had been racing—but more likely from shock than excitement.
“Don’t you think someone like Jing Yu is just… boring?” she said with a frown. “Yeah, she’s pretty, but what else? She always has that icy face, like she’s allergic to smiling. Being around her for one more second is enough to give someone frostbite.”
“That’s because you’re biased,” Qi Yue said dreamily, cradling her chin in her hands. “But to me, she’s absolutely perfect—like a glowing goddess. Just watching her from afar makes me feel happy.”
Dou Huan: “…”
Why was her friend such a hopeless fangirl?
“I was biased, okay? But not anymore,” Dou Huan admitted. “Actually, she’s not that bad. Not as annoying as I used to think.”
“Then hurry and divorce Chu Li and go after Jing Yu!”
“Are you out of your mind, or am I?” Dou Huan nearly jumped.
Qi Yue looked at her with sparkling eyes, completely lost in her own fantasy world.
“Snap out of it!” Dou Huan grabbed Qi Yue’s arm and patted her cheek. “I, Dou Huan, would rather be single forever than chase after Jing Yu!”
