Master, Please Help Me Break the Love Curse! - Chapter 14
For days, Luo Jiu had been tirelessly searching for a way to resolve the love gu, but the more she studied, the more confused she became. Despite poring over countless ancient texts and records, she couldn’t find any mention of the specific love gu afflicting Shang Qianye.
“I have a Fellow Daoist,” Luo Jiu said calmly, looking at Yu Shiyan sitting across from her. “She’s afflicted by a very peculiar love gu. It must be resolved every seven days, and it’s accompanied by a Symbiotic Gu. The most troubling aspect is that every seventh day, it triggers her Heart Demon, causing her to lose consciousness. She only regains clarity after the gu is resolved.”
Yu Shiyan blinked at her slowly. “Your… Fellow Daoist’s love gu is indeed strange,” she said softly.
Yu Shiyan explained, “Ordinary love gu can usually be resolved in a single treatment. While ancient methods do mention cases where love gu and Symbiotic Gu are nourished together, I’ve never heard of love gu that can manifest a Heart Demon.”
Luo Jiu frowned slightly. “Even you haven’t heard of it?”
“That’s right,” Yu Shiyan nodded. “If it were a standard Mother-Child love gu, though troublesome, it could still be resolved. But this Heart Demon Elder Luo mentioned… it sounds incredibly difficult to eliminate.”
“Can it be resolved at all?”
“Not necessarily impossible. There might be a special method—perhaps adding unique medicinal ingredients while nourishing the love gu could trigger the afflicted person’s Heart Demon. However, many things can induce Heart Demons. Without knowing the specific herbs or magical artifacts used in the nourishment, it would be nearly impossible to eliminate it.”
Yu Shiyan, observing Luo Jiu’s expression, suggested a solution: “Perhaps… your Fellow Daoist could seek out the person who planted the Gu. If they can cultivate Gu, they must also possess the antidote.”
Luo Jiu’s brow furrowed even deeper at this suggestion.
Since the fall of the Bl00d Serpent Palace a month ago, the Lingxiao Sect had relentlessly searched for the Snake Lady’s whereabouts. To their dismay, she had vanished without a trace after her escape, leaving no clues behind.
Finding the Snake Lady would likely prove far more difficult than anticipated.
Luo Jiu sighed softly, realizing she would need to explore alternative methods first.
The two continued discussing the love gu for some time, until Yu Shiyan’s disciple arrived to fetch her. They rose to leave.
“Elder Luo,” Yu Shiyan said before departing, “the toxins from Gu accumulate over time. Your Fellow Daoist’s susceptibility to the Heart Demon on the seventh day is due to this gradual buildup.”
Yu Shiyan paused, then added, “Perhaps… your Fellow Daoist could attempt to remove the Gu on the sixth day. This might prevent the Heart Demon from taking hold.”
With a slight bow, Yu Shiyan turned and left, leaving Luo Jiu standing motionless in her wake.
In a secluded chamber behind Lingxiao Sect’s main hall, the bodies of Pei Hui and five other disciples lay in repose.
Shang Qianye and Gu Yunqing stood outside the chamber, awaiting news. Gu Jin, having concluded a meeting, hurried over to join them, eager for the investigation’s findings.
Creak—
The ancient wooden door swung open, and a white-robed disciple emerged. He hadn’t yet removed the white cloth covering his face as he rushed toward Gu Jin to offer a formal greeting.
“Enough,” Gu Jin interrupted, her voice urgent. “Have you examined the bodies? What’s the situation?”
The disciple finally removed the cloth, revealing his face. “Sect Leader,” he reported, “our examination reveals that all but Junior Sister Pei Hui died from poisoning. We also detected traces of an unusual magical power on the corpses—likely from a magical artifact that drained their souls. Junior Sister Pei Hui perished from soul power depletion.”
“A soul-draining artifact?” Gu Jin’s brow furrowed deeply. Such a malevolent tool would never be used by righteous cultivators; this had to be the work of a demonic cultivator.
“There’s also this.”
The disciple extended his palm, revealing a white cloth-wrapped object. Unfurling it revealed a white jade pendant.
Gu Jin’s eyes lit up at the sight of the pendant. “Is that Spirit Jade?”
She took the white jade pendant from her disciple’s hand, examining it closely with a mixture of joy and sorrow in her eyes.
Seeing her mother’s expression, Gu Yunqing asked curiously, “Mother, what is this? Is it important?”
Gu Jin turned to look at her daughter standing behind her and explained, “Do you know that the East Sea Penglai Immortal Realm possesses a supreme magical artifact called the Holy Guanyin Statue? That statue is carved from Spirit Jade, which contains natural spiritual veins. These veins continuously emit immortal energy, aiding cultivation. This is why Penglai disciples’ magical power tends to surpass that of disciples from other sects—all thanks to the Holy Guanyin Statue.”
“The Spirit Jade used for this pendant was carved from the leftover fragments from the Holy Guanyin Statue’s creation. It contains a wisp of Pei Hui’s living soul and likely records the final events she experienced before her death.”
As Gu Jin spoke, she stroked the Spirit Jade, her brow furrowing. She instructed Gu Yunqing and Shang Qianye, “Notify all the Elders. We must convene in the council hall immediately.”
Shang Qianye and Gu Yunqing responded in unison, “Yes, Master!”
When Shang Qianye found Luo Jiu in a pavilion near the council hall, she was still sitting on a bench, gazing blankly at the distant mountains, lost in thought.
Only when Shang Qianye approached did Luo Jiu slowly turn her head.
Her dark eyes, like stars, met Shang Qianye’s gaze directly, causing Shang Qianye’s heart to flutter.
“Master,” Shang Qianye said as she entered the pavilion. “Headmaster Gu has made a new discovery on Pei Hui’s corpse and has summoned all the Elders to the council hall.”
Luo Jiu stared intently at Shang Qianye’s face, her mind still reeling from Yu Shiyan’s words:
“You can try to remove the Gu on the sixth day.”
Luo Jiu: “……”
The sixth day?
That meant doing that while both of them were fully conscious.
Though it wasn’t their first time, nearly every previous encounter had occurred when Shang Qianye was mentally compromised. Attempting it a day early was… well, it was asking a lot.
Luo Jiu clenched her hidden fist within her sleeve, her brow furrowing as she gazed at Shang Qianye.
Shang Qianye: “?”
Why is she looking at me like that?
“Master?” Shang Qianye prompted. “The other Elders should be arriving soon.”
Luo Jiu snapped out of her reverie, biting her lower lip slightly before finally tearing her gaze away from Shang Qianye’s distracting face. She rose with a sour expression, as if someone had offended her again.
Seeing Luo Jiu’s silence, Shang Qianye didn’t dare speak, fearing she might say the wrong thing and incur her master’s wrath.
She was fine just moments ago. What suddenly made her angry?
Shang Qianye sighed inwardly, hoping Luo Jiu’s sudden ire wouldn’t be directed at her. Otherwise, she’d have to spend days coaxing her back into a good mood…
