Mint Candy Love - Chapter 1.1
Ki-Young Han often remembered the professor who recommended him to take liberal arts courses. He said that he lacked communication skills.
Especially after making his schedule, he thought about it more, and as if the professor’s words were a prophecy, he finally took ‘Success Communication’.
There was no particular reason. The Performance Communication lecture that the professor had mentioned caught his eye as he rested his chin on his hand and looked at the course registration website to make a schedule. He couldn’t help but notice it, and it was long and titled. He clicked on it with a disinterested look on his face. His intention was only to have a look at the lecture times.
The class was once a week on Thursday, three consecutive hours, and fortunately it was from twelve to three. It was in the middle of my most important classes. It felt like heaven was helping me, and I had no reason not to take the Tetris class.
He was able to register for the most popular liberal arts course at Korea University, “Sexual Communication,” without much trouble at all. It is said that when coincidences continue, they become destiny. That’s exactly what happened.
The lecture hall was Mugunghwa Hall on the first floor of the Liberal Arts Building. It was a sloping structure that made you get closer to the professor as you went down the stairs. There were just over 100 students listening.
Ki-young Han took a quick look around and then sat down in the middle of the classroom. He didn’t like the kind of person who tried to flirt with the professor. And he despised the people who slept behind him and played on their mobile phones.
Ki-young Han was killing time in silence, leaving his bag lying next to him. It was a shame that the schedule wasn’t completed. If he were the original Ki-young Han, he would have cursed the irresponsible professor and chosen a different class, but he thought that there must be a reason why the lecture was so popular, so he decided to do it for the time being.
He took his mobile phone out of his pocket and checked it. There were a lot of calls. It was a message from my classmates who were in charge of the Political Science and Diplomacy student council. They wanted me to come to the opening party and the freshman welcome party.
They were crazy guys. They wanted to seduce women. Ki-young-han read all the messages that started with ‘Young-han-ah’. He ignored them. Then he noticed a familiar name in the message window.
Ki Young Hyun
Brother, are you coming home this week?
11:57 am
It was Ki Young-Hyeon, Ki Young-Han’s only younger brother. He was in the third year of high school this year and had a friend who was unusually tall and rough looking. The sad thing is that Ki Young-Hyeon is also a man.
Ki-Young Han lived by the motto of not caring about other people’s lives, but he wondered why he couldn’t do the same for his younger brother. He unconsciously tapped the keyboard with his eyebrows furrowed.
Me
Why?
12:01PM
Ki Young Hyun
No…Mum and Dad will come visit this time, so… .
12:01 PM
There was no subject. But he seemed to know. Ki-young Han swallowed the curse without hesitating.
“Is this kid out of his mind?”
I
I am going home.
12:02 PM
Go to study.
12:02 PM
Ki Young Hyun
Now it’s lunchtime…
12:02 PM
The crying emoticon will be coming back soon. The little guy plays nice.
Han Ki-young looked at his mobile phone. It was as if he was not particularly interested. The professor entered the classroom at that moment. He was young for a student of an old professor like that. He was probably in his late thirties. But he was still much younger than the professors of today and tomorrow.
“We have a lot of students.”
The professor stood at the podium. He looked around the classroom as he spoke. Han Ki-young followed his example and looked around as well. However, he soon lowered his gaze with an expression of disinterest.
“Instead of taking attendance electronically, I will call you by name since this is a communication class. There are a lot of students here, but that’s all right, isn’t it?”
“Yes…” came the half-hearted reply. The professor handed over the bundle of papers that he had brought with him. “Please hand them back.” The students had a look at each other and handed over the papers. Ki-young Han also received the paper. It was a class schedule.

It was a typical syllabus of lectures that you would see in a course of studies in the liberal arts. However, Ki-young-han frowned. Even if the table of contents was like that, the words written in brackets like schedule, first meeting, getting to know each other, first date… were really disturbing.
One of the things that Ki-young Han hated the most when she was at college was group projects. And this was obviously going to be about group projects. The arrow went straight to the professor who had recommended that I take the course in question. Why would you be my recommendation for a class like this? I heard a voice behind me muttering.
“They say that if you take this course, you are going to fall in love for real.”
