Mint Candy Love - Chapter 1.2
“Is this really going to be a group project about dating?”
Gossip. Han Ki-young closed his eyes tightly with a sigh. He let go of the power that was in his hands, which were holding the lesson plan. Let’s throw it away. This is a popular topic. The world must have gone crazy over it.
I am going to have to cancel the lecture. Ki-Young Han decided without hesitating.
“I’m going to take attendance.”
The professor called out each one of our names. “Ki-Young Han.” “Yes,” I replied roughly. I hated group projects. I hated individual projects even more. And on top of that, the dates. It was the worst of all. From the first day of school I had bad luck. They say a good start is half the battle. So I subconsciously concluded that this semester would probably be the worst.
That was the time
The back door of the classroom opened with an unpleasant creaking sound. The Professor continued to call for the students to come and listen. Ki-young Han turned his head with an uncomfortable expression to check who had entered. Even though it had happened a few months ago, a voice rang in his ears the moment he saw the face.
‘Why is it that the professor only likes me? We’re all students.
He was the kind of man who would say just that and be humble about it. The reason I have him in mind is that his face was different from the rest of the students. He was quite good. In other words, he was the kind of face that you don’t forget so easily once you’ve seen it.
Light chocolate.
Ki-young, who had judged the man so, looked back. And his eyes were on the professor, who was still in the process of calling out the names of the students.
Thump, thump… The footsteps came closer. Even though he had a sense of presence, Ki-young-han did not turn around. He could feel that someone was standing very close to him, but Ki-young-han only looked at the professor. There were still many empty seats, even though there were many students. He didn’t want to have anyone else next to him.
“Excuse me. Can I take your bag?”
But the timing was not right, and the man mumbled something. Why did he need to sit in the middle? He should have just stayed in the back as he was going to cancel anyway. Ki-young Han had a look at the man and put his bag away.
“Thank you.”
The man was breathing heavy and sounded like running. He must have been running away. I turned my head to the other side. I thought I could smell sweat. The man in the seat was flicking the hem of his clothes. Every time he did that, a sweet smell came out of him. It was as if he was a heavy user of fabric softener.
“Yoon Ye-jun.”
“Yes.
The man answered. He raised his hand.
Yoon Ye-jun was the man’s name. He looked sharp. But his name was round. But he wasn’t someone I was going to see any more of anyway. Ki-young-han thought the same thing.
It was soon over with the attendance check. The professor had a kind face and was full of jokes.
“It’s hard to count the number of people because there are so many. From the next time on, we’ll take it in turns to call once from the front and once from the back. There have been a lot of complaints from Mr. Kang’s friends.”
The joke was short-lived, and soon the syllabus began to get explained. As it was written, this was the first class. It was an orientation. Every time the professor said something so funny, the students laughed out loud. It was just a typical joke of a professor. Ki-young Han put the syllabus on his desk with a disinterested face. He spent the time quietly.
“You’ll see. After today’s lecture, we will have to work in groups of two until the next time. You all know which groups we’re in, don’t you? It’s a quite famous class in our school.”
A loud voice could be heard from there. Ki-young Han was still silent. It was a subject that he was going to drop out of anyway. He wasn’t interested in it.
“People who join this class and get coupled up will stay coupled up until the end of the semester. Just in case, I am saying this. Apart from couples, those who come alone while their partner is in another class will be dropped. You won’t get a good grade if you get caught.
“… … .”
“Besides, if the gender ratio isn’t right, we can have a male-male or female-female couple. You know this is the 21st century, don’t you?”
At this joke, the students laughed again. Ki-young Han, who had no idea what was so funny about it, muttered to herself.
“Dirty, really…”
He doesn’t really care whether his younger brother, Ki-young-hyun, is going out with a guy or not. After all, Ki-young-han was just a normal person who was living a normal life. In fact, when his younger brother said he was going out with a guy, he was quite shocked, but he pretended to be okay for the time being. He thought that since he was still a high school student, it was understandable and that he was just wavering for a moment. If he objected, it could get even more twisted, so for now. Yes, at the moment.
“… … .”
Ki-young Han leaned back on the back of his chair and tilted his head back to look at the ceiling. He wished the lesson would end soon. And soon after, the professor who had finished explaining the lecture plan said, “Okay!” and drew the attention of the students.
“I’m going to finish early today. I’d like you to finish your work before you leave. I don’t have time to meet you outside. So I’ll call it a day. See you next week.”
“Thank you.”
The professor looked around the classroom with an interested face and left without hesitation. Han Ki-young picked up the lecture notes with one hand. Already leaving through the back door of the classroom was Yoon Ye-jun, who was sitting next to me. He was fast too. Ki-young Han was about to get up from his chair when the woman sitting in front of him turned her head.
