Mint Candy Love - Chapter 1.6
***
“In the acquisition of gender roles… through observation and imitation… according to the theory of social learning… … children… … .”
Performance Communication had no specific teaching materials. It was a class where we took materials from the class portal system beforehand. We listened to what the professor said.
The class content was fine. The content was mainly memorisation, unlike the tedious group work. Han Ki-young tilted his head as he touched his pencil, concentrating on the presentation screen, then glanced around the seats in front of him. People tend to doze off during sociology classes, but there weren’t many people in this classroom sleeping or playing with their cell phones.
Ki-young Han came to the conclusion that the reason for this was that he had to sit next to the person in the same group during the class. There was no way he could do anything else, let alone fall asleep, while taking a class where he had to go on a mission with a stranger of the opposite sex, let alone pair up for a whole semester.
Except one.
Ki-young Han glared at the man sitting next to him, who was nodding his head up and down like a chicken trying to eat. There was no way he could look good when he nodded so hard that his neck seemed to be on the verge of breaking.
It would be less annoying if I slept face down. But I kept bending my head forward and then lifting it like a sick chicken, which was annoying and made it hard to concentrate.
“… … .”
Yoon Ye-jun lowered his head once more. Then he hurriedly raised his head, shaking. Their eyes met. Ki-young Han raised an eyebrow and looked at Yoon Ye-jun who was totally drowsy, then looked him up and down.
Yoon Ye-jun felt the look but pretended not to notice. Instead, he rubbed his eyes. He turned the paper over as the professor said.
“Hey.”
Ki-young Han called out to the man. Instead of answering, Yoon Ye-jun stared at him.
“Just lie down and sleep.”
“Yeah?”
“No, it’s annoying, so stop nodding and just go to sleep. If you don’t want to study, just do it yourself. Why are you interrupting me?”
“… … .”
Yoon Ye-jun said. She met Ki-young-han’s eyes with an indignant expression.
“under….”
This was followed by a short, empty laugh. He then lowered his voice again.
“Don’t worry about it. Do you find it hard to concentrate? To the point where it disturbs the people who are trying to sleep?”
“… … .”
“I don’t know how you study.”
Why are you making a fuss? You’re the one who’s bothering people. Ki-Young Han gritted his teeth in anger.
“Because you annoy me all the time. Why did you come to the college at all? Did you come here to play?”
“Why do you speak in an informal way? You sound like an uneducated person.”
“Ah. I suppose the school you went to said that it was all right to nod off and disrupt the lesson during the lesson? Don’t you have any idea about the atmosphere in a classroom? Do you think that Mencius’ mother moved to another place for no reason?”
The man didn’t speak. Let’s not talk about it. It was useless to get involved with such a scoundrel. Yoon Ye-jun had built up his patience by getting to know many people through various part-time jobs such as service, tutoring and factories. He slowly lowered his eyes and smiled.
“I’m sorry. I was wrong. I’m really sorry that I have disturbed your studies. You’re not going to fall asleep now, so please study.”
He pointed to the man’s pamphlet, holding out his hand as if to show great respect. Of course it was sarcastic.
The man’s face was on fire. Even if I could keep up with him, it would still be chaos. Yoon Ye-jun looked at the professor. He clicked his tongue. I know this style well. He usually doesn’t lose to anyone. He’s going to find something to blame somehow and keep on going. If that’s true, I’d better avoid him. How could I be scared? It’s dirty.
It was ten minutes before the end of the lesson and the professor was in the room. The professor opened his mouth. He had finished his lesson earlier than expected.
“As it is written in the syllabus, the assignment is to hand in a report, and the topic for this week is . Now, for people who already know each other, it’s okay to do a situational drama… Since most of you will be meeting for the first time, we should just sit across from each other in a café and talk. The length of the report doesn’t matter, but my hope is that you write it with a focus on emotion, as I said during the orientation. Also… Since the class is on Thursday, it’s due at 10 am that day. I’m not going to let you off the hook if you’re even a minute late. Let’s call it a day.
The professor finished speaking. He put his notebook down. The professor was approached by some students who were late for class. Ki-young Han sat expressionless. He was so nervous. He had spent the whole class looking at the man sitting next to him.
But Yoon Ye-jun was talking as if he’d forgotten that he’d gotten beaten up just an hour before. The speed of speech was good.
“What time shall we have a meeting tomorrow?”
Ki-Young Han answered bluntly.
“Let’s make it fast. See you at nine.”
“I’m sorry, but I have a lot of work to do tonight. Is it possible for you to come in a little later?”
“You’re taking time off for me to come to school, but you can’t even decide when to come? That’s a very selfish thing to do.”
“Phew.”
Yoon Ye-jun let out an open sigh. Ki-young-han felt a pang of conscience for a moment. But it was only a moment. I’d done enough to have to give in. Who would come out on a Friday when there was no school? Who would say they would do a few minutes of homework?
Yoon Ye-jun bit his lips for a moment. Then he nodded as if he had lost.
“All right, let’s do this. See you at 9. Let’s meet in front of the school.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
