Mint Candy Love - Chapter 1.9
Ki-young Han watched the screen with cold eyes.
The romantic comedy movie with the male and female leads fighting was okay. There were a few people who burst out laughing here and there, but not to this extent.
“… … .”
In fact, the content of the movie didn’t really catch his attention. His attention was more focused on Yoon Ye-jun, who was sitting next to him, than on the movie on the screen.
Yoon Ye-jun had been sleeping like that during class, and as soon as the movie started, he fell asleep. Does he know that this is a sleeping room? He did this and that after he saw the report.
I don’t know about that guy, but I had enough to write about. Yoon Ye-jun had the worst manners on a date. He was late, and on top of that, he was loud, and he asked to see a movie, but he came back and slept soundly.
Yoon Ye-jun didn’t eat much. He just picked up a couple of nachos, which were neatly placed on his thigh before the movie started. Was that too much? Ki-young-han pouted. He was annoyed that he had reserved the movie ticket all by himself. Anyway, there was nothing he liked about it.
“… … .”
Ki-young Han looked at the sleeping Yoon Ye-jun. Yoon Ye-jun’s lips were puckered. His eyelashes were quite long, but the tips were slightly curled upward. He didn’t want to look closely, but just like he had felt at first, his face wasn’t ugly. Rather than ugly… a little more… how should I put it… .
Ki-young Han stared at Yoon Ye-jun’s face with a serious expression on his face, trying to come up with some useless definition.
Suddenly, when Yoon Ye-jun lowered his head and then raised it, Ki-young-han quickly turned his eyes to the screen. If Yoon Ye-jun, who had just woken up, had caught him looking at him, it would have been embarrassing. Actually, it wasn’t that embarrassing, but his body was a bit faster than he thought.
What’s that movie about?
I only saw Yoon Ye-jun’s face for a moment, but before I knew it, the main characters who had been arguing were kissing each other without thinking. How could they want to kiss after fighting like that? It was completely incomprehensible to a normal person.
Bow. Yoon Ye-jun bowed his head once again. Even without looking directly, I could see that he was moving because his movements were large. However, the weight that touched my shoulder was unexpected. Yoon Ye-jun rested his head on my shoulder.
Knocking Ki-young-han raised his shoulder without hesitation, and knocked Yoon Ye-jun’s head. Yoon Ye-jun woke up with a start and looked around. He licked his lips with the back of his hand, and then secretly checked his own expression. He wasn’t drooling. Ki-young-han pretended not to notice and stared at the screen. I love you. I love you. Go and do something. He swallowed the curses of the actors’ desperate confessions.
Yoon Ye-jun, who was stretching as if he was squatting, moved his hand. He picked up the cola and took a sip. He let out a small yawn and leaned his head back against the chair. It seemed he was finally thinking about looking at her properly. That was fortunate. He was a very annoying person.
“… … .”
But as if nothing had happened, Yoon Ye-jun fell asleep again. Of course, once you’ve been kicked out, you should be careful and not rely on people.
“… … .”
Yoon Ye-jun leaned against Ki Young-han again. To be honest, it wasn’t heavy, but it was annoying. I thought he was doing it on purpose. Ki Young-han pushed Yoon Ye-jun’s head off his shoulder again. This time he shamelessly didn’t even wake up.
“Hey.”
Ki Young-han leaned towards Yoon Ye-jun and whispered. He didn’t even pretend to get up. Ki Young-han gritted his teeth and sang again as if he was humming.
“Hey.”
It was so absurd and ridiculous. I thought he had fainted or died, but I could hear his soft breathing. He was asleep.
How could someone sleep with his head banging and not wake up even when called? Ki-young-han closed his eyes tightly, then opened them and lowered his head a little more. It was almost as if he was looking straight ahead. He never thought he would see Yoon Ye-jun’s face so close. The cheek pressed against his shoulder protruded slightly. His trembling lips were a bonus. I’m dying of annoyance. The more he looked at that face, the more annoyed Ki-young-han’s face became.
“Hey, Yoon Ye-jun.”
Finally, he couldn’t stand his temper anymore and called Yoon Ye-jun. For him, who rarely had patience except when he was studying, this was a situation that he had endured as much as he could.
“… … .”
Shit, really… Ki-young Han leaned down a little more to call Yoon Ye-jun’s name again. It was too close, but he couldn’t help it, it was a movie theater. He had so much common sense. He didn’t sleep leaning on someone’s shoulder like some people do.
“… … .”
“… … .”
As he approached, Yoon Ye Jun, who had not woken up no matter how many times he had called and pushed him away, opened his eyes. Blink, blink. He closed his eyes tightly a few times and opened them again. His eyes, revealed through his long lashes, were so close that Ki-young-han’s body froze.
Yoon Ye-jun’s eyes slowly widened and so did Ki-young-han’s. Ki-young-han held his breath for quite some time, unable to hide his surprise. Yoon Ye-jun shrugged.
It was clear that he had misunderstood. His expression hardened as if he was about to kiss him, and he twisted his upper body, which was leaning against him, and lifted it up.
Ki-young Han’s face turned red and blue. It was so unfair, so unfair. I wanted to snap at him and say, “What kind of a misunderstanding are you having?” But I had no choice but to hold back because it was a movie theater. Of course, I did sneak a peek at his face, but that was it.
Ki-young Han tried to calm down his resentful and angry feelings and went back to his original seat.
This sucks, seriously… .
I cursed inwardly and crossed my legs. Leaning against Yoon Ye-jun, I took a Coke from the armrest on my side and drank it down. Ah, it was so damn sweet and so damn refreshing. The movie theater, where I had no particular thoughts, was getting stuffy.
***
“Did I sleep much?”
Yoon Ye-jun asked as they walked out of the theater together. An awkward couple, who looked like they had just started dating, walked by exaggerating their impressions of the movie.
Ki-young Han poured everything he had in his hands into the trash can. It was like his own heart. He wanted to pour out the memories of being embarrassed in the movie theater just a moment ago, like popcorn falling in front of his eyes.
Yoon Ye-jun awkwardly avoided eye contact and fell asleep again. Han Ki-young made a pose as if he was going to kiss Yoon Ye-jun, and actually he was misunderstood as such and couldn’t even concentrate on the movie, but Yoon Ye-jun slept very well.
If he’d just slept quietly, I wouldn’t have said anything. It would have been a little annoying, but bearable. However, when Yoon Ye-jun felt like he was feeling better, he would lean towards me again, and when I flicked his head, he would wake up for a moment and lean towards me again. It was so annoying.
Ki-young Han looked at Ye-jun Yoon and asked back.
“Have you slept well?”
Yoon Ye-jun was silent as he waited for an answer.
Ki-young Han felt even more uncomfortable as he saw Yoon Ye-jun’s slightly torn eyes. Honestly, if that person hadn’t been sleeping, such an embarrassing situation wouldn’t have happened. It must have happened when I woke him up. Even though he was a little close.
What’s even more annoying is that Yoon Ye Jung turned his head because he misunderstood her. Why would I kiss a man like that? What’s wrong with Ki-young han?
Han Ki-young lost his temper for no reason.
“You snore loudly and make a fuss. And why are you leaning against someone else’s body? You didn’t do it on purpose, did you?”
“On purpose?”
Yoon Ye-jun also threw the snack he was holding into the garbage can. As he walked down the hallway leading to the waiting room next to the theater, Yoon Ye-jun muttered to himself.
“If you did that to someone who was just sitting there…”
Ki-Young Han reacted immediately upon hearing that low muttering.
“What the…?”
Just as he was about to ask what kind of nonsense he was talking about, Yoon Ye Jun dropped a bombshell.
“I was going to kiss you, wasn’t I?”
“Ah!”
Ki-young Han couldn’t keep his anger in check. He caught up with Yoon Ye-jun, who was walking in front of him, his hair disheveled.
“Hey, over there.”
Ki-young Han put one hand on his waist and raised his other hand. He even raised his finger and pointed at his face. He wanted to point it at me. Yoon Ye-jun had the words on the tip of her tongue, but she didn’t say them out loud. After all, the conversation between the two of them was nothing more than nitpicking, so if he said this here, it would be like giving bait to the man who was grumbling in front of him.
Ki-Young Han stuck out his tongue and licked his lips as he barely managed to catch his breath.
“I think there’s a misunderstanding right now. I didn’t mean to do this to you. I just woke you up because you kept leaning on my shoulder and falling asleep.”
“Yeah. I don’t really care. So… my sexuality…”
“Oh, no!”
Ki-young Han raised his voice as if he was dying of injustice. People coming out of the same theater glanced at them. Those who were glancing at each other made eye contact with Yoon Ye-jun. They weren’t fighting, but it seemed like it could be seen that way, so he was embarrassed.
After looking around, Yoon Ye-jun nodded with a frown on his face.
“Okay, I’m just kidding.”
He wanted to end the conversation cleanly, but Ki-young Han’s expression didn’t match it. People who needlessly show off their pride like that don’t let their anger out until they’ve properly ended the situation, even if they try to cover it up.
It must be hard to live in this world with that kind of personality. It’s not my place to say this, but Yoon Ye-jun was socially savvy. In fact, he was a little too social. Thanks to that, he never did anything like Ki-young-han did, like nitpicking and nitpicking in front of everyone.
“No… why would I… It’s that guy.”
He must have been so excited that Ki-young-han couldn’t even finish his sentences. Did he really hate the misunderstanding of trying to kiss a man? Maybe it was like hating his own race. I’ve heard that people with extreme homophobic tendencies tend to have strong gay tendencies, too.
Yoon Ye-jun thought as he looked at the man in front of him, but he wasn’t stupid enough to say such a thing in this situation. After all, he was the man who said that the professor’s joke was dirty during the orientation, so if he said that now, his voice might get louder.
Yoon Ye-jun exhaled softly.
“Okay, I don’t care. I’m sorry if I misunderstood.”
After speaking, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and checked the time. It was just before 1 o’clock. While I hadn’t checked my phone, I had received messages from the group messenger at my part-time job, students from my private lessons, and classmates from the same department.
I had a 2 o’clock class on Fridays. Some might think that was the worst schedule, but it was necessary to fit my part-time job and class schedule.
Yoon Ye-jun checked his phone with a blank expression, then quickly put the phone back into his pocket. He then straightened his head and met Ki Young-han’s eyes, who had a blushing face.
“I have an afternoon class. Let’s part ways here for today.”
Let’s talk calmly. Ki-young-han closed his eyes tightly, and shook his head. He walked past Yoon Ye-jun, still grumbling as if his anger had not subsided. He didn’t even greet her. After walking for a while, he stomped his feet as if he couldn’t stand it anymore.
What, a guy in his mid-20s can’t stand being so hot that he starts kicking his feet?
“Tsk… .”
Yoon Ye-jun clicked his tongue without any hesitation.
He was a person I didn’t understand and didn’t want to get along with.
***
A quiet weekend.
Kiyoung Han stared blankly at the monitor.
She strained her eyes, staring at the blank space in the report the professor had prepared. What kind of activity report was this? It was something elementary school students would do. Activity report, feelings, one-line evaluation, what I want to do at the next meeting.
“I don’t want to do anything…”
Ki-young Han turned his eyes to the calendar on his desk. It was still March. How long would he have to wait until the end of June? He sighed, even though he was still.
“… … .”
Ki-Young Han, his eyebrows furrowed, tapped on the keyboard, then quickly focused on the monitor.
There was a space to write down the other person’s student number, but I didn’t want to contact Yoon Ye-jun separately to ask, so I searched the school’s portal system to find it.
I wrote down the activity report.
We met at a cafe at 9 in the morning and I was two minutes late, so I tried to get over it amicably, but Yoon Ye-jun started arguing with me instead. I was in a bad mood and wanted to go home, but she asked me to watch a movie. The reason is… I didn’t have anything to write in the report… After thinking it over, I decided to delete that part. Instead, I changed it to say that she said she understood since she had no reason to refuse.
Yoon Ye Jun didn’t ask what kind of movies the other person liked, and he bought the movie tickets in advance without permission. It was really unpleasant. I felt like I owed him money for buying the movie tickets, so I bought him some snacks, but he didn’t eat them properly and just slept through the entire movie.
“… … .”
And…
The cursor flashed before my eyes.
And…
And…
And
I remembered Yoon Ye-jun leaning his small head on my shoulder. At first, I got annoyed and pushed his head away, but he leaned on me again. He did it again and again. In the end, I just gave up because it was annoying and watched a movie, and eventually he leaned his head and fell asleep on the other side.
