- Chapter 24 - The King No Longer Holds Court Early
“My sister kept pestering me to teach her…”
When Shen Shuangjing woke up, the room was as dark as midnight.
She propped herself up on her elbows, the blanket sliding down to reveal her flawless, naked figure.
Her bare feet touched the floor as she moved with quiet grace. She glanced back at the sleeping woman before stopping by the window. With a delicate flick of her fingers, she lifted a corner of the curtain, allowing a playful ray of sunlight to slip through the gap.
The woman on the bed rolled over, letting out an unconscious moan. Her pale, pink-tinged back shimmered in the light.
Shen Shuangjing paused, then released the curtain, plunging the room back into silent darkness.
She remembered now that she had drawn the curtains before falling asleep.
It had been just before dawn, and closing the curtains would allow her to sleep soundly.
Without waking Sang Baili, she picked up her underwear and pajamas from the floor and quietly slipped out of Sang Baili’s bedroom.
Not wanting to return to her own room, she found some Coconut Candy in the kitchen cabinet, tore open the wrapper, popped one into her mouth, and sat at the island counter, lost in thought.
Her intention was to clear her mind, focus solely on the candy, and mask the lingering scent of tuberose and orange on her body.
But because she had been so studious last night, leaving no corner of the living room, kitchen, or bedroom unexplored, her mind involuntarily replayed the documentary of herself devouring orange-flavored cake last night as her gaze drifted toward the living room.
Compared to the Coconut Candy in her mouth, the orange-flavored cake from last night was far more delicious.
The ripe oranges were bursting with juice, each bite sending the sweet, natural nectar spraying everywhere. The pure sweetness, combined with the rich aroma of cream, made her heart race like a deer in the headlights, leaving her feeling tipsy and intoxicated, as if she had tasted the marrow of life itself.
There was just one problem.
She and the Beautiful Boss had initially agreed to maintain a respectful distance—emotional boundaries intact, physical boundaries respected. But she had broken that agreement, crossing into negative space.
Would this jeopardize the proper termination of their agreement?
Shen Shuangjing crunched the Coconut Candy, dismissing her worries as unfounded. Yesterday’s events were just a brief interlude; she was merely a tool to help her sister resolve her troubles, nothing more. There was no need to overthink things.
As for whether her actions might affect the subsequent plot, she had no concerns whatsoever. Absolutely impossible. She was just a minor cannon fodder character; the power to summon storms and alter the storyline belonged solely to the original novel’s female lead.
After a night of intense studying, the Coconut Candy clearly hadn’t replenished her energy. Shen Shuangjing cooked porridge and warmed up some rice, then showered in the guest bedroom. When she emerged, Sang Baili was already sitting at the Taiwan table, eating porridge.
Shen Shuangjing’s eyes flickered slightly. “You’re awake?”
Sang Baili nodded, her voice still drowsy. “Mm.”
Shen Shuangjing poured herself a glass of milk, secretly observing her. She suddenly wasn’t sure if Sang Baili remembered what had happened last night.
If she did, her reaction was far too calm, no different from usual.
Could she have blacked out completely?
I told her she should have drunk hangover soup before sleeping, Shen Shuangjing thought.
“Did you sleep well?” she asked tentatively.
Sang Baili blinked her alluring eyes. “Pretty good. What about you?”
Shen Shuangjing was momentarily flustered by Sang Baili’s husky, morning-roughened voice.
“Very… good,” she replied.
It was the same bed and bedding, but last night—no, this morning—she had slept exceptionally well in Sang Baili’s bed.
Her dreams had been filled with luxurious fragrances.
Sang Baili raised an eyebrow, stirring the white porridge with her spoon.
Her gaze lingered for a few seconds on Shen Shuangjing’s slender fingers, which were adept at cooking, before shifting away.
Unsure how much Sang Baili remembered, Shen Shuangjing wanted to ask more, but Wuyun nudged her leg.
“Meow~”
She’d forgotten to feed him.
After filling Wuyun’s bowl, Shen Shuangjing still felt something was off. Clutching her mug, she suddenly realized the problem.
“Aren’t you going to the office today?”
Sang Baili shook her head. “No.”
“No wonder,” Shen Shuangjing murmured.
Usually, Sang Baili was already at the office when Shen Shuangjing fed Wuyun. It was rare for the two of them and their cat to share breakfast on a weekday.
She took a sip of her milk.
Sang Baili said, “My back hurts, my legs are weak, and I can’t walk. I’m not going.” She delivered this declaration of utter laziness with the calmest tone.
“Cough, cough, cough!”
Shen Shuangjing choked, coughing violently until tears welled up. A delicate blush bloomed on her cheeks.
Suddenly, she felt less like a disposable cannon fodder character and more like a legendary femme fatale who could make a monarch neglect state affairs, costing the entire conglomerate hundreds of millions in an instant.
“You remember everything?”
Sang Baili wiggled two slender fingers.
Shen Shuangjing’s mind flashed back to yesterday’s conversation, and she realized, “You weren’t drunk.”
Sang Baili replied coolly, “I remember you continuing twice even after I said no.”
Shen Shuangjing felt the urge to cough again.
She parted her lips, a delicate blush tinting the tip of her nose, and the small red mole there seemed to burn.
“I was just trying to make sure every penny of your money was well spent, Elder Sister,” she said.
And Elder Sister clearly enjoyed it too.
Sang Baili gazed at her, sensing something different about Shen Shuangjing. It was as if she had suddenly acquired a captivating allure, like soft jade suddenly radiating a dazzling glow.
Sang Baili’s beautiful eyes narrowed slightly, teasing her, “Are you blaming me for spending too much?”
Shen Shuangjing’s lips curled into a mischievous smile, her eyes sparkling with confidence in her own skills. “Just tell me—did I earn a five-star review?”
Sang Baili replied regretfully, “Four stars at most.”
Shen Shuangjing’s eyelids twitched. “?”
Does my sister want me to practice again, to re-evaluate my skills?
Unfazed, Shen Shuangjing declared, “Impossible.”
Sang Baili, still sore from last night’s torment, couldn’t bear to see the younger woman’s smugness. She feigned a sigh, her teacher persona activating, and said lightly, “Acknowledging your limitations isn’t something to fear.”
“……”
The sister in bed was more honest.
Shen Shuangjing huffed, pouting. “Even though I practiced diligently twice, you were the one who kept pestering me for guidance.”
If my technique was truly lacking, why would you want me to continue? You might as well have taken a cold bath.
Sang Baili fell silent, a rare hint of embarrassment flickering in her bright, alluring fox-like eyes.
If my hands weren’t so sore, I would have covered her mouth halfway through that sentence. Now I can only perfectly embody speechless defeat.
Because it was undeniably pleasurable, her technique had plunged Sang Baili into blissful surrender.
She couldn’t refute it.
