My Alpha Has a Dual Personality (GL) - Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Chi Yunhan leaned on the desk with both hands, her face flushed, her eyes glistening with tears that trickled down her cheeks. Her pheromones surged uncontrollably, emitting a scent that made knees weak and hearts race.
She was in heat again.
She took a deep breath.
A few minutes later, Chi Yunhan splashed water on her face until her burning skin cooled down. Only then did she reach out to turn off the faucet.
“How many times this month already?”
“Don’t ask. Let’s just say thirty-one times in a month.”
“Good heavens, people might think Team Leader Chi’s met her destined match!”
Destined match? More like a deadly murderer!
Chi Yunhan yanked open the bathroom door, glaring at the chattering crowd at the entrance. “Got nothing to do? Have you finished designing the perfume bottles for PFE?”
“We’re on it, we’re on it!” The group scattered like startled birds.
Chi Yunhan, still catching her breath, returned to her desk, gripped her mouse, and clicked. The screen lit up, displaying the chat window she’d been using.
Chi Yunhan: [May I ask what else you’re dissatisfied with?]
Chi Yunhan: [If there’s anything you’re unhappy with, feel free to let me know.]
Twilight: [Ugly.]
Chi Yunhan: [Alright, could we meet to discuss this? It’d help me make changes to the product and hear your opinions. What do you think?]
Twilight: [Will meeting make it less ugly?]
Chi Yunhan: “…”
Oh, haha.
Just shut up already. Better yet, turn mute.
Chi Yunhan took a deep breath, muttering to herself, “Don’t get mad, don’t get mad, I won’t get mad. If I get sick from anger, no one’s gonna take my place. I won’t stoop to the level of this picky, idiotic client.”
Less than three minutes later, Chi Yunhan was back in the bathroom. She’d emptied a bottle of suppressant, smacking it twice, but not a drop remained.
She’d just bought it a few days ago!
Twilight’s a complete moron!
Don’t let me meet her!
Without suppressants, it was tough to cope, and frequent episodes left Chi Yunhan drained. She rubbed her lower back, then clutched her stomach as she left, pretending it was a stomachache.
After work, Chi Yunhan immediately dragged a friend to the supermarket, where she grabbed a dozen suppressants. Clutching them tightly, she gritted her teeth and said, “Hmph, she better not cross my path. If I see her, I’ll slap her face swollen!”
She rubbed her fingers, cursing, “If I don’t take her down, my name’s not Chi Yunhan!”
Lu Xiangyuan had only heard of Twilight’s reputation—a cold, sharp-tongued woman—but had never dealt with her up close. She smiled. “Is she really that bad? She’s your client, you know. She might even acquire the company, and then she’ll be your big boss.”
“Aaah! You have no idea how…” Chi Yunhan felt like she was about to lose it, clenching her fists as if grabbing Twilight and slamming her to the ground.
No words were needed; Lu Xiangyuan understood her frustration.
Chi Yunhan stomped the floor twice. “I never want to work with her again. Seriously, if this keeps up, I’m gonna…”
“Gonna go into heat?” Lu Xiangyuan pointed at the back of her neck.
“Sorry.” Chi Yunhan grabbed a new suppressant and sprayed it on her nape, taking deep breaths. No use—mentioning Twilight made her nape burn, and her pheromones went haywire.
“Let’s talk about something else. Are you really going to the shelter to pick up a wife?” Lu Xiangyuan asked. “Isn’t that a bit sudden?”
Chi Yunhan nodded, her nape glands burning red. She gave a soft hum. “It’s state-assigned, so of course I’m going.”
She felt a bit shy, slipping her fingers into her pocket to fidget. “If we get along, after we register, she’ll be my wife. We’ll be together every day. It’s not that sudden—I applied ages ago and only recently got matched.”
Lu Xiangyuan said seriously, “You still need to be careful. Alphas from the shelter often have issues. Make sure you ask the right questions.”
Chi Yunhan hummed in agreement, then whispered, “I’ve got issues too, you know. It’s perfect—my matched Alpha also has pheromone problems. We’re a good pair.”
She wasn’t young anymore. It was time to settle down.
The most direct way to handle pheromones was through comfort and guidance.
During the day, she’d take flak from clients, her pheromones would flare, and she’d come home to her wife for comfort—physical comfort. If her wife had pheromone issues, Chi Yunhan could return the favor.
Ugh, talking about this was so embarrassing.
The shelter was basically an official matchmaking network for Alphas and Omegas with defects or differentiation issues. Alphas, with their strong mental fortitude, were deemed dangerous and kept in containment until paired with an Omega to prevent pheromone-driven chaos.
The shelter was a bit of a trek. After parting with Lu Xiangyuan, Chi Yunhan took the Line 4 subway and three buses to reach the shelter’s entrance.
Staring at the blue iron gate, Chi Yunhan felt a flutter of nerves. How should she greet her match?
Hi, I’m your partner, your wife?
Hello, I’m Chi Yunhan. Let’s take care of each other from now on?
After hesitating for several minutes, she watched pairs of Alphas and Omegas leave the shelter—some holding hands, some blushing shyly, others silent.
“Next, Chi Yunhan,” a staff member called.
Chi Yunhan hurried over, excitedly licking her lips.
The staff checked her ID, then looked up at her. “The Alpha you’re rescuing is Jiang Muning. Are you sure?”
Chi Yunhan nodded, meeting the staff’s doubtful gaze with a serious expression. “Don’t worry, I’ll treat her well. No discrimination here.”
“That’s not the issue,” the staff said. “Your pheromone compatibility with Jiang Muning is only 30%. Two Omegas with over 50% compatibility tried to rescue her before, and both failed.”
“She was abandoned twice?” Chi Yunhan asked softly.
The staff let out an “ah,” her expression complicated. “Well, sort of, but…”
“But I’ll treat her well,” Chi Yunhan said, thinking how pitiful Jiang Muning must be. Being abandoned was painful. She said earnestly, “I believe in fate. If the system matched her to me, it means she’s meant for me.”
Whether the staff was moved by her bold declaration or just fed up with the sappy talk of young people, Jiang Muning was soon brought out.
The previous Alphas had come out fine, some leaning on others or supported. But her Alpha was different. Dressed in a sharp black suit, she stood tall at the entrance, her white collar slightly open, stained with specks of bl00d.
The moment she appeared, the staff all stepped back.
The woman walked up to Chi Yunhan, her gaze sweeping over her face. Calm, with striking peach-blossom eyes, she gave a slight, cool raise of her brow but said nothing.
Chi Yunhan was stunned.
This was her wife? So beautiful! How could anyone abandon her? They must’ve been blind.
She stood there for a while, her eyes catching the bloodstains on Jiang Muning’s cuffs, stirring a pang of pity. She stepped forward, wanting to reach out and hold Jiang Muning’s hand.
Before she could, Jiang Muning slipped her hands into her pockets, her gaze sharp as a blade. “Jiang Muning.”
“Oh, I’m Chi Yunhan.”
Chi Yunhan felt a bit embarrassed.
She fidgeted with her fingers, then tucked them back into her pockets.
The staff explained the process, confirming their rescue relationship and reminding them, “Your rescue arrangement lasts three months. If it doesn’t work out, you can dissolve it. Miss Chi, don’t forget the timeline.”
Chi Yunhan frowned, a twinge of discomfort in her chest. Talking about whether they’d get along or not in front of someone who’d been abandoned felt tactless and hurtful.
Before she could speak, Jiang Muning said, “I’ll remember.”
The staff hesitated, then pushed out Jiang Muning’s suitcase and handed them a rescue kit, explaining it contained a stipend they could both contribute to, with better interest than personal accounts.
Jiang Muning said, “Three months’ living expenses are in there. Use it as you like.”
Chi Yunhan nodded.
There wasn’t much luggage. Chi Yunhan pulled the suitcase while Jiang Muning carried a large backpack.
As the sun set, casting long shadows, Chi Yunhan looked up at the sky, feeling the day’s frustrations melt away.
They skipped the crowded buses and subway, opting for a taxi. In the backseat, Jiang Muning sat close to the door, keeping her distance.
The air in the car felt stifling. For some reason, Chi Yunhan kept catching a faint, elusive scent—subtle, hard to pin down.
Yet, it was mischievous, like tendrils teasingly brushing against her, creeping toward her nape.
Chi Yunhan stole a glance at Jiang Muning.
Jiang Muning was focused on her phone, dealing with documents.
Sweat beaded on Chi Yunhan’s face. Unable to stand it, she said, “Driver, please rein in your pheromones. They’re bothering me.” Damn it, she hated Alphas like this, flaunting their pheromones at attractive women!
The driver turned off the car’s music. “Young lady, don’t accuse me wrongly. I’m a Beta! Maybe it’s the Alpha next to you?”
Betas couldn’t smell pheromones—only Omegas and Alphas were affected. Chi Yunhan glanced at the woman beside her.
Was it her pheromones?
Jiang Muning kept her gaze forward, cool and detached. “It’s not me.”
Chi Yunhan touched her burning glands. It was all that damned Twilight’s fault—now even a hint of pheromones sent her spiraling.
So shameless.
She replied dryly, “Must be pheromones blowing in from outside. I’m pretty proper, don’t worry.”
She opened the window, letting cold air rush in, cooling her down. Feeling embarrassed, she paid the driver a few extra bucks when they got out.
They stepped out together, Jiang Muning trailing behind, one hand in her pocket, her demeanor cold. Chi Yunhan walked ahead, her glands acting up again. She tugged her collar up.
Hmph, spring’s here, Alphas are in heat, and the air’s thick with pheromones. She’d wear a mask from now on.
…
The moment they stepped inside, a wave of pheromones hit, nearly buckling Chi Yunhan’s knees. Gasping, she turned to see Jiang Muning behind her, brows tightly knitted.
“It’s not me,” Jiang Muning said calmly.
“…Oh.”
But the tips of your ears are red.
They stood face-to-face, pheromones invisible but palpable. Jiang Muning’s pheromones were crashing wildly now, unlike their restraint in the car. They aggressively targeted Chi Yunhan’s nape, teasing her glands.
If pheromones had teeth, Chi Yunhan’s neck would be a bloody mess. Yet Jiang Muning stood ramrod straight, saying, “I don’t need pheromone guidance. I’m fine.”
Chi Yunhan thought her wife was quiet and a bit tsundere.
No big deal. It was their first meeting—jumping into something so intimate was awkward. Marking and guiding could wait.
Chi Yunhan took a deep breath, suppressing her body’s restlessness. She found a pair of slippers in the entryway cabinet, planning to let Jiang Muning settle in while she stepped out for air. She bent down to set the slippers out.
Suddenly, Jiang Muning said, “You’re too fragrant. So fragrant I can’t control myself.”
Her voice was cold, her serious tone brimming with sincerity.
Chi Yunhan couldn’t help it—her legs went weak.
