My Alpha Has a Dual Personality (GL) - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
After drinking water, Jiang Muning pursed her moist lips and walked to the bedroom door. As she entered and closed the door, she tossed a flirtatious wink at Chi Yunhan.
Her big eyes blinked lightly, lashes fluttering, while the lace on her shoulder slipped delicately to her elbow.
She was so beautiful it was impossible to look away.
Chi Yunhan stared intently at her until the door shut.
For a long time, she smelled the sweet scent of watermelon, her neck stiffly turning as she bent down. The watermelon on the floor had shattered, its red flesh spilling out, leaking bright red juice.
Chi Yunhan glanced at the melon, pinched her own face hard, and wondered how things had turned out like this. Wasn’t Jiang Muning a proper person?
Was she blind?
That morning, when she left, she had asked Jiang Muning if she was hot and whether she wanted to change into something comfortable and clean. Jiang Muning had flat-out refused, saying she wasn’t hot.
So why was she dressed so coolly now?
Chi Yunhan stood there for a long time, but Jiang Muning never came out.
The scene kept flashing in her mind, making her heart pound wildly. She wanted to confirm it.
Chi Yunhan picked up the melon. It wasn’t completely smashed, just broken into three pieces, still edible. She put it in the fridge, wrapping it in cling film.
Then, hesitantly, she walked to Jiang Muning’s door and knocked. “Jiang Muning, I bought a watermelon. Want to have some?”
There was no response from inside, as if it had all been Chi Yunhan’s hallucination.
Chi Yunhan scratched her head, waiting, thinking Jiang Muning would eventually come out to use the bathroom. But she waited so long she nearly fell asleep at Jiang Muning’s door.
In the end, unable to wait any longer, she went to bed.
She had a dream where Jiang Muning sat on her bed, dressed provocatively, a lace shawl barely covering her bare body. The lace slipped from her shoulder. Jiang Muning tilted her body, fingers teasing the lace upward, and raised an eyebrow. “Like it? If you do, I’ll take it off…”
Chi Yunhan swallowed hard, abandoning all manners, driven by instinct, nodding eagerly, words stumbling out.
“I like it, I really like it.”
Jiang Muning said, “But for a woman like you…” She paused, then continued, “For a woman like you, I’m quite interested.”
Chi Yunhan felt like she was tethered by a rope, wanting to pounce but held back, struggling. Each time she lunged forward, she was pulled back, her neck tightening, seeking pleasure in the suffocation.
That night, Chi Yunhan was like a woman possessed, alternating between hot and cold. She woke up once, her heart heavy with melancholy.
She drank a large glass of cold water and went to the living room to check.
Still no sign of anyone.
At this hour, Jiang Muning was probably asleep.
The next day, Chi Yunhan, sporting dark circles and yawning, changed clothes and rubbed her eyes. Seeing Jiang Muning in the living room, she immediately straightened up.
Breakfast was set on the table: egg drop porridge, meat buns, and a side of pickled vegetables. Jiang Muning sat quietly, eating.
She wore a black suit, no tie this time, but every button was fastened neatly, making her look rigid and serious. Her hair was tucked behind her ears, her profile sharp and defined.
Her stern appearance was like facing a boss. Chi Yunhan felt intimidated. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, and sat across from Jiang Muning, her fingers trembling as she held her chopsticks.
She picked up a soup dumpling, its thin skin bursting with filling, a bit of broth spilling out as she bit into it. Cautiously, she asked, “Did you come out to drink water yesterday?”
Jiang Muning shook her head. “No.”
“I-I saw you, with my own eyes,” Chi Yunhan said excitedly. “I even dropped the melon, and it broke into three pieces!”
Jiang Muning frowned, seemingly puzzled, and asked, “What are you talking about?”
Chi Yunhan walked to the fridge and opened the door. “Look.”
“…Oh,” Jiang Muning said indifferently.
“Really! I saw it. Look closely, the melon’s in three pieces… Wait, where’s my melon?” Chi Yunhan rummaged through the fridge. The melon, broken into three pieces yesterday, was now whole, completely intact!
Was this some kind of magic melon?
Since when did watermelons have self-healing powers?
Chi Yunhan was stunned, staring at the melon. She tapped it, touched it—it was chilled, not like it had just been put in. She looked at Jiang Muning, who was calmly eating breakfast at the table.
“Did you buy the watermelon?” she asked.
Jiang Muning shook her head. “No.”
Then she added, “I don’t like watermelon.”
Chi Yunhan didn’t believe it for a second. She closed the fridge door, sat across from Jiang Muning, and studied her face closely. There was no mistake—it was her, the person from yesterday.
Unless Jiang Muning had a twin sister!
She got straight to the point. “Yesterday when I came back, I saw you dressed very… very ‘that’.”
Jiang Muning looked up. “’That’?”
“Sexy, alluring, seductive,” Chi Yunhan said, her mind replaying the scene, still dazzled. So provocative—so proper during the day, but at night, all sultry.
She shyly added, “It looked really good.”
“…Oh,” Jiang Muning said. “Are you fantasizing about me?”
Her tone was polite, but her furrowed brow and cold glance seemed to ask, ‘Are you lusting after me?’
“No way!” Chi Yunhan admitted she’d had some impure thoughts, but her mind wasn’t ‘that’ dirty!
“I’m a pure woman, okay? You were the one dressed like that, and I saw it! You even winked at me.”
Jiang Muning set down her chopsticks and looked at her seriously, saying flatly, “Impossible. Absolutely impossible.”
“It’s true!” Chi Yunhan insisted.
Jiang Muning stared straight at her, unflinching, and asked, “You’re not in heat, are you?”
“Why would you ask that?” Chi Yunhan calculated the days—her heat was indeed approaching. She nodded honestly. Was Jiang Muning planning to dress like that to spend her heat with her?
Jiang Muning said, “An omega’s heat lasts a long time. If not handled promptly, it can cause hallucinations and eventually loss of rationality.”
“You’re saying I’m in heat and saw things wrong?”
Jiang Muning replied, “Go to the hospital.”
“…”
No way!
Chi Yunhan was certain her eyes hadn’t deceived her. She checked the household trash, went to the supermarket in the afternoon to buy groceries, and even asked the neighborhood store auntie if Jiang Muning had bought a watermelon. The auntie didn’t remember.
Finally, looking at Jiang Muning’s upright demeanor, Chi Yunhan began to doubt herself. She pulled out her phone and typed.
Question: Can watermelons self-heal?
Description: It was broken into three pieces, but the next day, it was whole again. Has anyone else experienced this? Do watermelons have magical powers?
1L: If you had even a single peanut, you wouldn’t be this drunk.
2L: Yes, not only can they self-heal, my watermelon grew into a beauty~
3L: Why did my melon grow into three? OP, is your melon not up to par?
Whether the melon was up to par, Chi Yunhan didn’t know, but… she sneaked a glance at Jiang Muning, who was looking at her computer. This big fool in her house was definitely not up to par.
Since coming to her place, Jiang Muning hadn’t shown ‘that’ side even once. The one time she was provocative, she denied it. Definitely not up to par! Absolutely not!
Chi Yunhan’s frustration flared.
On Sunday, with neither of them having anything to do, Chi Yunhan sat on the couch glaring at Jiang Muning. Jiang Muning ignored her, speaking coldly when she did.
Chi Yunhan’s eyes grew dry from staring. She got up to do chores, and Jiang Muning helped, but her methodical approach—dictating how to sweep, how to mop—was so rigid, not seductive at all.
Many times, Chi Yunhan asked herself, ‘Was it really a hallucination?’
That evening, Chi Yunhan took the melon out of the fridge, grabbed a kitchen knife, and set it on the dining table.
Jiang Muning looked up, warily. “What are you doing?”
Chi Yunhan, unhurried, wiped the knife on the melon twice, then sliced it in half with a swift motion. “Killing the melon!” she declared.
Jiang Muning looked at her like she was watching an idiot child.
A fool killing a melon.
…
At work, Chi Yunhan threw herself into her busy schedule, occasionally observing Jiang Muning. But not once did Jiang Muning dress provocatively like that night. It really felt like a dream.
These past few days, the director kept calling Chi Yunhan in for talks, urging her to finish the design quickly. In the office, the director pressed, “In two days, Twilight will visit the company to discuss the acquisition. Can you finish the design in two days?”
Chi Yunhan pursed her lips. With Twilight’s attitude, even if she had five hundred years, she doubted she could satisfy her.
The director, somewhat displeased, frowned. “Originally, the perfume bottle design wasn’t meant for you, but your sister fought for you. If you can’t deliver, I’m in a tough spot. Can’t you step up?”
It was Twilight being too picky—anyone would struggle.
Chi Yunhan asked quietly, “When exactly is Twilight coming? If it’s impossible, I’ll talk to her face-to-face. She doesn’t give feedback, just says it’s ugly. I don’t know how to fix it.”
“That’s your problem,” the director said. “Earliest is the day after tomorrow, maybe next week if something comes up. Figure it out.”
Two days…
Two days might not even be enough to find a new job.
Leaving the office, Chi Yunhan was in a foul mood. She vented to a colleague, then opened her computer to keep designing.
Soon after, the director returned from a meeting, her face dark. She snapped, “Chi Yunhan, what’s your deal? Don’t pull sneaky moves behind my back. What did I say wrong? If you can’t finish the design in two days, you’re out! Let’s see how tough you think you are!”
With that, she slammed the door shut.
Chi Yunhan was stunned.
What had she done?
Just then, a colleague returning from printing documents said enviously, “Team leader, you’re so lucky. During the meeting, the director wanted to give Twilight’s design to another team, but your sister defended you. She chewed out the director, saying you’d definitely nail Twilight’s design and not to underestimate you. So satisfying—I’ve been sick of that old hag for ages.”
Chi Yunhan nearly snapped her pen in half.
The director’s tone wasn’t great, but it was fair—she hadn’t finished the design, so it wasn’t unreasonable. She’d grumbled about the director internally but knew she was at fault.
But what was Chi Yurorong’s deal? Saying she could definitely do it!
Goddamn it, she didn’t even want to work with Twilight!
The director would probably slice her up like a watermelon now.
Chi Yunhan pulled out her phone and texted Chi Yurorong: [Who told you to talk to our director?]
[You’re just trying to force me to quit, aren’t you? Stop pretending!]
Chi Yurorong replied instantly: [Yes.]
Then she quickly retracted it, texting: [It’s for your own good.]
For her own good, my ass.
Anything involving Chi Yurorong turned good things bad.
It had always been like this since childhood. No matter what she did, if Chi Yurorong got involved, it never ended well. Everyone thought Chi Yurorong was good to her, and gradually, no one played with her or bothered with her.
Her colleague, seeing Chi Yunhan sulking all day, invited her out for drinks. Normally, Chi Yunhan would decline—she had a wife now, couldn’t mess around outside, and had to prioritize family.
She refused, saying, “I need to get home early. Someone’s waiting for me.”
“You’re worried your wife will run off?” Zuo Yijing, sitting next to her, teased with a laugh. “Ooh, Team Leader Chi, you’re so whipped!”
Chi Yunhan, embarrassed, nodded. “It’s not that. She’s very proper, goes to bed early… Wait, yeah!” She shouted, her day-long gloom suddenly lifting, her eyes sparkling!
Her colleagues stared, asking what was up.
Last time, Chi Yunhan had come home late and caught Jiang Muning like that. Maybe she was shy and only let loose when no one was around.
Ooh~
If she went home late, could she catch her again?
Zuo Yijing poked her shoulder, shivering. “What’s with you? Why are you smiling so… so gleefully?”
“Nothing!” Chi Yunhan tossed her hair back, excitedly saying, “I’m not going home. I’m going out with you guys to party. I’m gonna be a woman who doesn’t come home!”
“Let’s go!”
